Initial Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2015/05/11) */
The customer came in with complaints of fluid leaks and shifting problems. When the car was inspected, the technician discovered that the radiator tank was broken. As a result, the antifreeze and transmission fluid were mixing. This problem...

required a new radiator and repeated antifreeze and transmission flushes to correct. When the customer left, she was informed that because of the fluids mixing together, there could be further problems with the transmission. The cars transmission was shifting better when it was test driven by the technician. The customer was referred to[redacted] Transmission Shop if there were further problems.

Company responded with a handwritten response that was transposed by Revdex.com staff-[redacted]2/19/16to whom it may concern:As you well know, all stories have two sides to it just as does this one. First of all. we did not break the rpms sensor, the sensor was rusted out and we suggested to replace ( not our...

fault for rusted out rpms sensors see attached declined invoices). Also [redacted] is not the owner. customer (according to him-[redacted]) tod us that he had to drive on the tire out in Mentor and therefore ruind the tire and had to have another one installed at the Brookpark location. there is nothing that the Strongsville store did for the tire replacement and obviously didn't charge any money for it! If any at all, the customer needs to take this back up with the Brookpark store since they are the store that charged him for it. Also, we did provide the Mentor store with the info needed at the time and never received a call from Brookpark. To the Customer: fix your "broken" rpms sensors the correct way and not with rubber stems so you know when you have a low tire and not continue to drive with low air pressure causing tire failure! Midas in Strongsville does not hold any responsibility for  what other location does and just like the customer pointed out that the tire only had a nail or some other object in it and could have been repaired, customer still has old tire in his possetion.SincerlyEd [redacted]shop manager 16190 Royalton Rd. Strongsville, OH 44136440-846-1118

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2016/03/17) */
On 2/20/2016 Mr.& Mrs. [redacted] did bring car into Midas complaining of a loud knocking noise in engine compartment and my technician and myself diagnosed the problem and found a tensioner that was very noisy and ready to come apart which would...

have left them stranded after replacing the tensioner the car was much quieter however we did hear another noise that we couldn't here before replacing the tensioner do to this part being so loud at that point we informed them of this noise and let them know they should have this check out when they get home.
Thank you.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2016/03/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When we arrived home, I took the car to the dealer and the problem was diagnosed as the water pump. I took the car to a repair shop in Champaign and the car is no longer making the noise. Midas in Springfield misdiagnosed the problem so I feel they should return our money.

Midas Auto Systems Experts3519 S Memorial Dr Greenville, NC XXXXX-XXXXXXX XXX-XXXXMidas didn't repair my car as promised. We took our car to Midas for a repair. I asked them to put my car on the diagnostic machine. They called me within a couple of days and told me that my car was running hot because the water pump was bad. I asked if that was all. I was informed yes. I agreed to have the car repaired. After, a few more days, I received call two. I was told at that time that the timing belt needed to be changed. I agreed. I was informed the car was running fine and it was ready for pickup. They informed me they had driven the car and it didn't run hot. I picked the car up one night, and within two miles it ran hot again!! I called Midas and told them about the car. I told them I could not drive the car in that condition. It was actually running worst than when I dropped it off. I had to leave it in a shopping center parking lot. I was displeased. I told them to hold my check until my car was repaired properly. I told them I was going to get my mechanic to pick the car up the next day. They asked me to let them get the car, so they could see what was wrong. They picked the car up and returned it to Midas. A few days past, and we called them. They said that the heater core was bad. I told them that they should have diagnosted that with the machine prior to releasing the vehicle. They didn't fix the car and wanted to be paid for it immediately!! I told the owner we would pay for parts but it was their fault our car was not working. We would not pay for labor and our car was not in working order. The owner said they would repair the car further, but wanted us to pay the $1100.00 now. We asked the Owner if we could break even. We had a not running vehicle and his staff didn't fix our car properly the first time. We recorded a conversation where the Owner was yelling at us about the repair. The company now has possession of our vehicle and has obtained an lien on our car. They did this to obtain money. We were not allowed to even get our belongings out of the vehicle before selling our car. They did a bum job and we are the ones without a car. The Owner talked to us very ugly and basically told us he was not willing to negotiate anything. We were not asking for the repair to be free. We just wanted to pay him for the parts which were new, but couldn't see paying for labor and it was not fixed. The car was undrivable. I am experienced in Auto Mechanics that is my trade and know that all the problems should have been detected with the diagnostic machine the first time it was put on the machine. Dealership or private owned business cant diagnose a problem today and call two days later with additional stuff wrong unless it was human error. I am very displeased with the service this company gives. Desired SettlementI will pay for the parts, but not labor. I want my car back. At this point, I will be filing a Civil Action Suit for the personal property as well in the vehicle. I was not given the opportunity to get my personal papers and things out of the car.

Review: On Friday, August 8, 2014 at approximately 3PM, I dropped my [redacted] off at the Midas located at [redacted] in Short Pump, VA. Prior to dropping off the truck, I had called and discussed repairing 1 ball joint on the truck for a total of $153 total since I had already ordered the part.

As I left the shop with my ride, I saw my truck being driven into the shop. A short while later, the shop called and told me all 4 ball joints were bad and the repair bill would be $1051. At NO time during this call was I told the transmission had any kind of problem; i.e., apparently the truck drove fine. I agreed to have the ball joints repaired, although I was not 100% sure it was necessary when I drove the truck to the shop.

On Sunday, August 10, 2014 at approximately 2PM, the shop called and informed me that my transmission was blown. I asked how this was possible since when I drove the car to the shop there was NOTHING wrong with the transmission. Of course, the shop could not explain how it happened while under their responsibility.

The transmission was replaced 4 months ago and I have the paperwork to verify this.

I went to the shop August 11, in person, and discussed the situation with the shop manager, [redacted]. [redacted] could not explain how a practically brand-new transmission could fail under their care. I asked [redacted] to pay for the towing to Eldersburg, MD, where the transmission is under warranty. [redacted] refused and only offered to reduce the $1051. by $200.

This is not an acceptable solution.

I am requesting that Midas absorb the repair cost for the 3 ball joints in which the repair necessity is questionable, pay for the towing of the truck to Eldersburg, MD to have the transmission repaired, and the cost of a rental car until the truck is drivable.

I called the Midas Complaint Department this afternoon requesting the name and number for the regional or district manager of [redacted] Midas shop. I was told by the customer service representative that she did not have access to that information, so I filed a complaint and was told I would be contacted within 1 to 2 business days.

On August 12, I was contacted by the "owner's wife" who handles complaints. She was unwilling to do anything other than offer the $200 which is unacceptable, which is why I am filing this complaint with Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: Midas absorb the repair cost for the 3 ball joints in which the repair necessity is questionable, pay for the towing of the truck to Eldersburg, MD to have the transmission repaired, and the cost of a rental car until the truck is drivable.

Response:

I have been in touch w the person involved and his father. The truck had the transmission rebuilt 4 months ago, and it appears an internal component has failed. We all agree on that. It failed while on a test drive at our store, so the customer feels we are responsible.

While this is an unfortunate situation, we are not the responsible party. The garage that rebuilt the transmission seems to have agreed to repair it, according to the customer, if the truck is towed there.

We have agreed to give the customer a good faith refund of $200 for the work that he authorized here. That is all of the credit we will be absorbing on this.

This is the fourth or fifth complaint these folks have lodged in the last few days, the volume of complaints will not change my response to the same.

Our position, as stated here, is the final position we will have on the matter.

Response:

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Dear [redacted],

Review: I was not informed that after replacing my [redacted] belt that I would have to replace my tensioner for (I believe [redacted] said it was) for $156.97 total. I just spent $700 to have my car serviced!! This amount may not be a lot to some or most of your customers however it is a lot of money to me!! My car did not make this squeaking noise in which is very embarrassing before my car was serviced this last visit!! I am very disappointed & feel really unappreciated!!

This is the second time my car was serviced and when I picked it up it had a squeaking noise. The last time I had my tires or something near my tire serviced my car had a squeak. I took it back to Midas the guy took a look at it, admitted fault and corrected the issue without any problem. I have not had a squeak since from that area of my vehicle.

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like my car not to squeak on a part that was just serviced with a new serpentine belt on it. Telling me after my car was serviced that a new belt can put to much pressure after it's serviced, paid for and now squeaking is just not acceptable to me!! I would like Midas to fix the squeak from the new belt I just purchased.

I mean [redacted] nor [redacted] even tried to fix the squeak or offer me any discount on fixing the squeak!!

I really would like the squeaking to stop!!!!!

Response:

I apologize we have not communicated about this sooner. Your letter, dated 09-06-13, is the first I have seen the Revdex.com was involved in it.

I am well aware of the situation, and have had one on one dialogue w [redacted]. She came in for a weak start, belt noise condition. We installed, among other things, a new serpentine belt, and it immediately became apparent the tensioner would need to be replaced too. There was simply too much play in the new belt. We took the lady out to her car, explained the situation and presented the additional estimate. She stated that any additional expense was not in the budget, which was understandable as she had spent a fair amount of money. We explained that noise and, eventually, premature component wear would result from this , but that, in the near term, she’d be fine.

She returned a couple of weeks later, asking for a word. She expressed her opinion that I should replace the tensioner at no charge to her. I reviewed the documents w her a second time, and declined her request. She then posted a complaint on Midas.com which I responded to as well.

I am sorry [redacted] finds herself in this position. We stand ready to install the tensioner, and as a show of good faith, will offer her a $** discount should she choose to proceed.

I can be reached at [redacted] should you wish to discuss this further

Regards

Response:

I spoke with [redacted] about a $** discount I which he said he'd call me back the next day and I did not hear from him the following day nor untill this day September 22, 2013 Sunday. I have only received this response from Revdex.com.

I'd really appreciate it if I could receive the $** discount as discussed with [redacted] so my car can be serviced and the squeaking can cease/ stop before I need another serpentine belt that I just paid to be replaced!! I am just not satisfied with a $** discount

Response:

We will honor a $** discount

Review: In December, my mother took her 2005 [redacted] to Midas in [redacted] for a front end alignment. Soon after, the car started pulling again and she took it back to Midas. Midas's warranty is for three months on alignment but void due to accident. Their claim is the original alignment was for pulling to the left but the current issue is on the right side. Because the right side is out, therefore it's not covered by the warranty. Furthmore, there is damage on the right underside cause by an accident. Warranty is void.

I would agree there is damage however, this was caused earlier last year when a curb was hit BEFORE my mother had the alignment. They followed up with another reason by saying something happened in 'the snow' and 'we just didn't notice hitting something'. Any driver would have noticed hitting something hard enough to knock the front end alignment out to the degree they claim. Their last claim, 'it was perfect when the car left, you guys did something'.

I would vigorously disagree with their conclusion. The only two drivers were myself and my mother and neither of us had an accident. If we didn’t have an accident and they don’t have any evidence other than old damage, they should perform warranty work. We cannot explain why the alignment is out but the burden of proof should not rest on us to make them do warranty work.

Thank you, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I would prefer getting a refund and go to another shop. However, getting the alignment fixed is the only recourse, I would not fight it further.

Review: Customer service rep tried to "cross-sell" a total of over $4,000 of "issues" that would need to be repaired on my 2005 Toyota Avalon XL. Individual claimed that "my tires were worn, rack and pinion issues, they couldn't do the "free alignment" because my tires were bad, my vehicle shakes when going over 80 miles...". What the individual did not know is that my husband is a mechanic for Toyota and prior to visiting the shop I had a complete diagnostic check, inspection of all systems. and out of all the issues he listed and gave an estimate for only about 2 or 3 items were applicable. My tire tread was not worn (for starters) and how would he know that my car shakes when going over 80 (WHICH IT DOES NOT)! He only drove it from the parking space into the bay where it was to be service. That takes about 30 seconds. I really do believe they were just trying to "bait" me because I was a female. No other explanation.Desired Settlement: Response as to why the Customer Service Rep attempted to cross-sell me $4K worth of work on my vehicle when it wasn't even necessary? Furthermore why would I even spend $4K at Midas on a Toyota?!!

Review: Went to the business for simple oil change on my 2005 [redacted]. After car was serviced representative presented me with a "recommended estimate" for a total of $4,160.77 to my vehicle. Mechanic at front desk claimed that my "tire tread was worn, I need struts, rack and pinion replacement, he could not properly align my tires as indicated with the oil change service due to my tire tread, I needed a new air filter...". What I find extremely comical is that I just took my car for a simple oil change and the mechanic indicated "that's why your car shakes when it goes over 80mph". Here's my problem: (1) Prior to I hadn't drove the car since November 2013, (2) during that time I had the tires replaced, air filter and even a diagnostic check by 355 [redacted] who found no issues at all with the vehicle, (3) they even replaced the tires during that visit (I have all of this information documented by the dealer),(4) I rarely drive at or over 80mph and (5) how would you know my tires shake if you only drove it from the bay to the parking lot (which is about a 7 second drive)? Lastly, my husband is a mechanic for [redacted] and he said the claims were totally unfounded. Clearly this merchant preys on women and those that are not familiar with car care.Desired Settlement: I need the owner of the company to explain why the mechanic would tell me this info when it was totally unmerited.
