Review: March 20, 2015 Midas in Marysville, Ca changed my oil. Upon completion, the owner [redacted] ###-###-####, notified me that there appeared to be a small leak in my transmission hose that needed to be checked later. I asked if I should bring it back in a week to be checked? [redacted] stated it could wait till the next oil change, it was not that big of a deal.[redacted] further stated the engine was in great shape. My friend, [redacted] was a witness to this transaction. March 25, 2015, I was driving on the freeway when my car lost tremendous power. Upon inspection it appeared to be oil blown, covering the top of the engine. I called Midas as they had just worked on it.[redacted] offered to pay for the tow. I stated I had AAA roadside assistance. He said he would pay for it and in addition, any repairs if deemed caused by workmanship. MARCH 26, 2015 approximately 9:30 a.m., I spoke with the manager(he wouldn't give me his name), stated someone wiped the top of the engine clean. Can't tell where leak is coming from. They will have to tear down transmission, which will be at least 12 hrs just to see what's wrong. He said they assume it's the transmission because the engine is still full of oil. I stated the car was towed directly to the shop. He denied anyone at his shop wiped the engine. Upon my telling the manager I was having another shop give a second opinion, he informed me he would not release the car until I paid for the tow. I asked for the corporate, operations manager, regional manager, and owners phone number and notified him I was calling California Automotive Consumer Complaints as well. The manager stated he was going to hang up on me. I then notified him that due to their underhanded practices, I had him on speakerphone with three witnesses listening. He then have me the numbers. I have also filed a complaint with California Automotive Consumer Complaints as well as am having a civil stand by with Marysville Police Department to try and recover my vehicle.Desired Settlement: My vehicle returned to me, as well as any repairs seen or unforeseen, if found to be caused by any workmanship done by Midas. I also want compensation for the rental car I am having to get in replacement while my vehicle is being repaired.

Review: I took my car into Midas to have the vehicle repaired because there were multiple issues, including a popping noise upon acceleration and deceleration, which you could feel in the steering wheel, there was a scraping noise coming from the right side, and major vibrations upon deceleration from freeway speeds. When I took it in, they told me it would be no problem to fix it. I got a call the next day telling me they found my transfer case to be bad, and were 100% sure this was causing all of the problems. We said go ahead and do it. A day later, we get another call from them saying they found, upon removal of the transfer case, that the seal between the transmission and transfer case had broken, and the transmission was causing the problems because of the shavings coming from it and landing in the transfer case. We said to go ahead and do it. $3300 later (after comparing prices with AAMCO, since Midas quoted us $5300 originally), we got our car back, only to find that IT WASNT FIXED. All of the problems we had described still existed, and we had additional problems after bringing it home. I came out this morning to find at least 1 QT. of transmission fluid on my driveway! I took it back into Midas, and needless to say, I have given them an additional chance to fix the vehicle, and correct what they did wrong. However, I am questioning at this point if I even needed a transmission and transfer case! I wasn't having ANY shifting problems or indication that I needed either of those two components replaced!Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the $3300 for the transmission and transfer case since I did not get to see the parts as proof, since they said "there's a core charge and we had to send the original back), and my original problems it went in for weren't fixed! We could have waited on the transmission had it truly been a problem, but they said they were 100% certain this was the problem, and it didn't fix anything. All it did was drain my credit card of money I couldn't afford to spend!

Company states: They brought the vehicle back stating that they had the original noise. I replaced all the bearings and the noise was still there. So then I took the transfer case out and the noise went away. I told him to call me and customer said the noise is gone and thank you.

Company states: I went above and beyond. I put $500 of parts in his car. It is still not good enough. I have the documents to prove it. He can take to the BAR.

I am rejecting this response because:

This is no longer about the "$500 in parts" that they put into my car. The original problem is that I got the vehicle back and every single problem we were having was able to be duplicated the night before they took it again to fix it. It is questionable whether or not we ever needed a transmission or transfer case, and they showed me no evidence that it needed to be replaced, only word of mouth. We were not having any transmission trouble to begin with. Whatever was wrong with it that needed to be fixed originally, they did with the supposed replacement of the "$500 in parts." The car was not fixed when we received it back, though it was insisted to me that the transmission had a problem, but I neither felt, nor heard, or even saw any evidence of that needing to be done. I don't care what they did to the car at this point, I just want the complaint filed that I believe that I should have never had to have those two components replaced, and should I have, there should have been physical evidence that would have been shown to me when we picked up the car the first time. If that was my problem originally, why release the car to us as "fixed?" THAT is my complaint. Yes, the car is fixed now. Great. Whatever they did to it worked, but the original complaint is that the car came back to us, I was able to duplicate all the problems, I had to give up my car for more time, and I dropped $3300 into the vehicle that I felt was unwarranted due to the fact that ALL THE PROBLEMS WERE STILL THERE, and we never experienced problems with the transmission or transfer case.

I have taken my complaint to the BAR. They are investigating, and if they contact me and tell me that there was clear evidence that the components needed to be replaced, and that the car was repaired in a matter standard of that in the automotive repair industry, I will take my leave and apologize. However, until that point, I have no reason to believe that the original repair needed to be done, and that the second repair where they placed "$500 worth of parts" into my car was what fixed it. This is not a personal vendetta against this repair shop, and I appreciate what they had done. I just want to make sure that if my claims are valid, that this never happens again in the future.

Horrible service and they stole. I had sixty bucks stolen out of my car. It was bad enough they wasted my time and try to over charge me. Owner didn't care at all.
