On nov 9, I took the car in for an oil change and tire swap. I had a coupon for a free tire swap from my last visit from Nov 25, 2017 when I was kept waiting about 3-4 hrs for them to get a part, an *** turn signal switch I was billed $113.56 for. I later discovered it was $40 on ***, and showed it to the manager, M Z., and he said "That's not the same part". I called in the am and confirmed the coupon was still good and came in about 1130 am. Being a friday, I figured it was better to come in before the weekend, the only drag being, the weather was awful, cold, windy, and raining. M Z. confirmed the coupon was still good, and recommended balancing the tires, even though they were on rims. He said this would be $12.50/tire, the same price as a swap. He suggested that I do it for safety's sake and I agreed, as I have an 8 month old son and can't take any chances now. However, after checking my records, (I have been going there since 2014), I saw that this had never been done for me before. I actually put my winters on separate rims to avoid paying the balancing fee every season. Anyway, I agreed to it being done. I asked Zain about how long, and he said 30 min. I said great, I was going to lunch with my 80 year old mother. We walked down the road in the miserable wind and rain to *** and had lunch. 90 min later we were done, and I called in to confirm my *** was ready for pickup. Tony answered and said it was ready. I said to my mom, wait here and I'll come and get you so you don't have to walk back up the street in this awful weather. I walked up and Chris came out to say it was not ready, and I waited another 30 min before he came and checked me out. While waiting I looked at the price list overhead and saw the tire balancing fee: $10/tire. I let these things go without saying anything at the time. My mother has no cell# and I found her waiting outside in the wind and rain for me, wondering what had happened. I took the car straight home. The next day the car was not used. On nov 11, my wife and 8 month old son took the car to visit her mother. Just before getting on the highway she got a flat. She called me and naturally I was upset. I knew midas was closed sunday, but was so frustrated with this overall experience I confess I left an angry voicemail. Tony called me on monday. I explained what had happened, and he said, "You got a nail in your tire, and you're blaming it on US?" "On US?" He kept repeating this to me over and over again in an angry tone, and would not even let me speak. Finally I said, "This is why I'll be going to *** from now on". He said, "That's a good idea." and hung right up on me. I went to *** to get the flat fixed. They said the cause of the flat was not due to any puncture, but the fact that over time, corrosion develops between the rim and the air tube, and that can cause the air to leak. The rims should have been cleaned and bead sealer applied during the balancing, part of their standard balancing services.
I let being overcharged go. I let being kept waiting after I was promised the car was ready go. But if my wife and infant son had gotten on the highway, they might have been in an accident due to midas' ***. ***. This I cannot let go.
