Middlebury Consignment is calling me a liar, with the "essentially correct" line? They are the ONLY ones that have been in that unit, since the professional movers put in the items. This is what I believe happened: when they picked up the two items for consignment they just shoved everything else back in the storage unit (not thinking they would be returning). The last sentence in their response sums this up perfectly "It
took our guys a while to extract the items from the storage unit, and
we could not justify having them spend additional time trying to make
room for the return". No one else accessed the unit, *** *** keeps a log of who goes in and out. Middlebury Consignment LOST MY KEY so *** *** had to cut off the lock to to allow them access. I live in *** and have not been back to Connecticut since the items were consigned. It was totally their own fault that they couldn't fit the items in the unit. If they had properly repacked the unit after removing the two items there would have been plenty of room (they removed two pieces and were returning only one). Middlebury Consignment is "essentially incorrect" when they tell you that they asked me to make other arrangements because the unit was full. They totally led me to believe they had returned the piece to the unit and they charged me $on 4/for the moving cost. My first notification that that was NOT "essentially correct" was the $check I received on June 24th. All they had to do was call me and say they were leaving it the breakfront at the the storage facility and I would have gotten the mover to come and repack the storage unit.
I would not have been happy but I would have dealt with it. I will totally agree that they are in the business to make money. They paid me $for two pieces of furniture, worth over $1,that had been in my family for plus years, and charged me $to move the itemsThis results in a loss of $4.77, not to mention my additional expenses (antique restorer made a minor repair to the breakfront $and brand new heavy duty moving quilts.

We have no additional response to this matter and our position stands as stated.

[redacted] details are essentially correct with the following exceptions.
1. There is doubt that the storage unit was full and our movers could not fit the breakfront back in. We don't know who may have accessed her unit between the months we picked up her items and the date we attempted to...

return then, which was almost a year later. She was charged a fee for returning the breakfront because it was in no way our fault that the unit was full.
2. She states correctly that we notified her that the item was not returned because there was no room in the storage unit. We asked her to make arrangements to remove the item from our premises because we could no longer store it.
3. Per the consignor agreement (attached), we could have taken possession of the item, sold it, and not paid her anything. Also it states the Company reserves the right to price all items. We had this item in stock for almost a year, the consignor did not reclaim it, so we marked it down to move it out.

Review: The Middlebury Consignment store picked up 2 items from my storage unit ([redacted]). An [redacted] Cherry breakfront and a pine dresser. They sold the dresser for $300.00 (my half was $150.00)they then deducted a moving charge for the two pieces $75.00 and paid me the remaining $75.00. They continued to try and sell the sell the breakfront. In April the store called and told me that they had not sold it and I told them to return it to my storage unit. I was charged $79.77 to move it. They had misplaced my storage unit key so I called [redacted] and told them to cut off the lock so they could get access. I received a call from [redacted](the owner)and was told the breakfront couldn't fit back into the unit. I told him that his people removed both it and a dresser and that no one had been back to the unit (I live in [redacted]) since their removal. I said they needed to put it back and that there should be plenty of room since we were returning only one of the two pieces and it all fit in the unit before they removed them. I heard nothing more so I assumed it was back in storage.I received a check, from Middlebury Consignment, LLC on June 24th (ck#[redacted])for $75.00 for my breakfront. I am very upset because I paid for the item to be returned to storage (I was charged $79.77 on 4/10 for the moving cost). The average sales price for this piece is between $750.00 - $1,850.00. I can't believe they sold it for $150.00 and sent me a check for $75.00. Prior to consignment I had an antique dealer repaired a door latch and that cost over $70.00. I never would have allowed it to be sold for $150.00. In other words it cost me money to give away a cherry breakfront that had been in my family since the 70's. I sent [redacted] a certified letter (on May 25th) stating the above and asking him to call me by July 11th to resolve the matter. He never did. I also filed a complaint with the Connecticut Attorney General.Desired Settlement: Return my breakfront or pay me at least $400.00 dollars.
