Review: My expected move out date was supposed to 12-15-13, we did not send the notice to vacate within their 60 day policy so the move out date was set to 12-22-13. I informed them that friday(12-20) that the apartment would be vacant sunday(12-22). I tried to hand in the keys sunday, but the office was closed. Went there at 2pm, office hours are 9-5 on sunday. No notice when they would be back if or if they are open. I stopped by the next day at 10am and dropped the keys off. A few weeks later I received a bill for 44.88 for the extra day. I do not believe this to be fair. I have several letters stating the 22nd as a move out date as well as a verbal conversation. Furthermore they also stated in an email if they could rent the apartment earlier then I could still move out the 15th. They had a renter move in as soon as I moved out, but did not hold true to their word and move up to the original move out date.Desired Settlement: 44.88 charges dropped

Response:

Thank yo for the opportunity to respond to this complaint against our community Middletown Brooke Apartment Homes. Though I was not the manager at the time [redacted] vacated his home I can attest that it is our practice to charge a pro-rated daily rate until keys are returned to our office. Without the receipt of keys we, the property management company, do not have possession of the home or the right to enter. This reserves legal right of possession to the resident, resulting in a daily prorated rental charge.

Our office hours on Sunday's have always been 12pm to 5pm and we encourage our exiting residents to reserve an appointment with us to ensure we have the time set aside to finalize their move. Mr. [redacted] stated to [redacted] that he drove through on Sunday to drop off keys but that he didn't see her car. Our leasing professional was in the office that day but was not driving her car that day.

We thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. If The Revdex.com has any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at [redacted]

Review: I reside at [redacted] in [redacted]. This past winter the apartment had issues with pipes freezing in February, and I am concerned with the way it was handled. I lost all heat and hot water to my apartment one day and called maintenance to report it- after waiting the whole day with my two kids we ended up leaving around 5:00 to get some dinner and warm up. When we got home that evening, a couple hours later, the heat was working.

The hot water tank is in an outside closet on the back porch, second floor, approximate size is 8' high x 3.5' wide x 4' deep. Their answer to this was to place a space heater inside the closet running 24/7, hooked up to my electricity, without making me aware. I found out only because my electric bill the following month was $100 more than expected. I called the electric company to question it and since there were no answers, I decided to let it go. The next month my bill went up an additional $100, making my bill $268! I called the electric company once more and they told me I should contact maintenance because something is sucking up the electricity. It is then that I went to the office and shared my concern and asked that maintenance come to my apartment asap. I was told by [redacted] that it was probably my meter and that I should request a new one from the electric company. She also told me that she would put in a maintenance request. A week goes by and I receive mail from the electric company that my meter was checked and is working at 100%. I went back to the office and asked them what the status was on my maintenance request and [redacted] went to read my file. She came back a few minutes later and told me that the heaters in the outside closets weren't working in a bunch of units so they had to buy a bunch of space heaters and put them in the tenants closets so that the pipes wouldn't freeze.. I shared my concern with her regarding my electric bill and she informed me that I was responsible for preventative measures, and that it was written in my lease. The more I thought about the whole situation the more I realized how backwards it was. I sent in an email voicing my concerns and disapproval and was called later in the day by [redacted] to see "how they can make it right". I told him I would come meet with him to discuss it and went right to the office immediately following the phone call. When speaking with [redacted] he informed me that this winter the heaters in the closets were working "sub-par" and they had to improvise and get space heaters so that the pipes wouldn't freeze again. I had many concerns about this first of all I believe that this is a breach of a Fire Code or some Building Safety Code, and the room adjacent is where my two children (4yrs & 9yrs) sleep. The space heaters were running 24/7 in a small wooden closet. He also told me that as soon as I came in to make the initial complaint that [redacted] called the head of maintenance and told him to remove the heater right away, yet I was lead to believe the whole time that it was my meter. I also asked for a copy of my lease and asked that they show me where in my lease it says that I am responsible to pay for preventative measures, and it could not be located. [redacted] told me that he would talk to his regional manager and that he would try to get me a reimbursement for my electric bill. A week goes by and I hear nothing. I continue to reach out for 4 weeks and I finally get a response that they credited my account $70.Desired Settlement: I would like an investigation to take place regarding any Fire Code and or Building Safety Code Violations that have occurred. I want my heater replaced. I want to know that me and my children are safe. I also want to be reimbursed for the money I had to pay for the space heater. They hooked it up to my electricity without my knowledge which was a lazy and cheap way to fix a big problem. I also want to know how they are going to make this right with the other tenants. I am willing to co-operate in any way necessary to make sure that this situation is handled properly, and in order to maintain safety for the future.

Nice place to rent an apartment and so close to New Haven or Hartford that we could each commute to work to two different destinations. The apartments are a nice size and I like to cook so the gas stoves were also nice. We have a boxer so it was nice to be able to find a place that took our dog, Freida!
