Middletown Tire & Battery Reviews (1)

I have a set of Maxxis tires on my truck that I purchased a couple of years ago when I lived in Memphis that are still under warranty. On 07/25/13 when getting ready to go on trip, I noticed that two of the tires were badly cracked. I got on the internet to find a Maxxis dealer and the closest one was Middleton Tire and Battery which is about 40 miles from where I live. I called and spoke to the owner and he told me to bring my truck in right then which I did. He said they were defective and ordered another set that would in the next day. I went in the next day and he put the new tires on and balanced them. On 09/07/13, when getting ready to go on a trip, I noticed that one of the weights Middleton Tire had put on that balance the tires was very loose and spun around the tire and another one was missing on another tire. I didn't want to go all the way back to Middleton Tire so I took my truck over to [redacted] about 8 miles away and they rebalanced all four tires and charged $20.00. I called and spoke to the owner of Middleton Tire and told him about the problem I had had and he agreed to reimburse me. He supposedly took down my name and address and said he would send me a reimbursement check. I offered to send him a copy of the invoice from [redacted] and he said that wouldn't be necessary. After almost two weeks, I had not received a check in the mail from him and called and his wife answered the phone. She left the phone for a minute and came back and was very rude. She said that her husband said he had no recollection of talking to me and that they were not going to reimburse me because I might have hit a pothole and caused the problem, which I did not. Due to the obviously poor workmanship when the tires were put on, I feel that the owner should reimburse me like he said he was going to do. And I don't appreciate being accused of lying by his wife either. That is very poor customer service in my opinion.Product_Or_Service: Maxxis HT 760 255/65R17 warranty tiresDesired SettlementI would like for Middleton Tire to reimburse me the $20.00 I had to spend to get the tires rebalanced like the owner said he was going to do when I first called him about it.Business Response Respectfuly I agree to help this customer to save him from having to drive another 70 miles back to memphis tn to get his tires warrantied..I charged the cusotmer $392.42 on 7/25/2013 for 4 of the maxxis tires (our normal cost for a set of these tires are $622.19).I sent the tires to my vendor for warranty reimbursement but after the tires were examined they had less tread depth than what was actually determined by someone the customer had measure it.So with this said we did not recieve the full credit that we applied to the customer which put us at a loss of approx $60.00.The customers formal complaint was loose wheel weights but we put the tires on 7/25/2013 and we did not recieve a call from the customer complaining until Sept 2013. We can not be responsible for these wheel weights because (1)obviously the tires had no problem on the trip home since there was no complaint on 7/25/2013 (2)as I stated to the customer they could have been knocked off by hitting a pot hole or a bump in the road.and (3) because of the time frame from the date the tires were installed to the date of the first phone complaint (well over a month)So no I do not feel we owe this customer anything.Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I did not hit a pothole or anything else for that matter. A person would have to hit a pretty big hole to knock the weights loose or off and it would probably knock the alignment off. I have never had weights do this in all the years I have been purchasing tires and I am 65. If I had hit a huge pothole, I would say so. I am not trying to do anything dishonest here. I feel that the weights were loose all along, but unfortunately I did not inspect the tires closely until the first week of Sept. when I was getting ready to go on a long trip. When I first called Middleton Tire about this, the owner did agree to reimburse me for having to have the weights re-done. I even offered to send him a receipt from Savannah Tire, but he said that wasn't necessary and that he would send me a reimbursement check. Afterwards, he evidently changed his mind. I just feel that this is an issue of poor workmanship and I will not go back to this business again.Final Business Response As I have stated before the customer DID NOT complain until well over a month which tells me as ive stated before there was NOT a problem with them on the ride home or anytime with in that time frame from july to september. we also took a loss of approx $60.00 on these tires and I will state again we will not be refunding the $20.00. We would be honored if this customer did not return to our place of business because of the fact its customers like this that hurt other customers.thank you.
