Midtown Tire

As an Uber Xchange Lessee, I am entitled to free oil changes. Donlen Maintenance contracts with Uber in order to provide the service. Donlen sends reminder notices to drivers about getting serviced. Uber's informational email about services states that drivers should not ignore notices unless the vehicle had driven 2,000 or less since the last oil change. In early August 2017, I received a notice, and I took my car for service at an authorized provider (Midtown Tire). When it was time to check out, I was told that I would have to pay for the service myself since Donlen did not agree to pay for it. I contacted the person at Donlen who denied the payment request (***). He stated that Midtown Tire (Salesperson ***) never called them in order to authorize the service and he had no idea what I was talking about. After quizzing *** at Donlen, it seems that Midtown Tire essentially did not follow the established authorization procedures. I feel that Midtown Tire either knew or should have known that the service was not authorized, but they wanted the money for the service anyway since I had booked an appointment slot. I am at a loss for what else could be the explanation. To be clear, I did successfully use Midtown Tire for this same purpose in the past, so I am not sure what the problem was this time except perhaps that all their workers are not properly trained. I was forced to pay for the service under duress. I contacted Uber who insinuated that Midtown Tire, and not Donlen, was the problem. However, their hands are apparently tied because I have yet to receive remedy for the problem or a clear explanation of what occurred and what should have occurred. Since the amount for service ($44.84) was not worth a lawsuit, I did not file any official legal complaints.
