Throughout this whole transaction my communication was with *** ***. *** called Midway while he was driving to tell me the symptoms he was experiencing with his vehicle as he drove itHe indicated that the battery light was on and he lost the power steering function of his steering
wheel and that the vehicle was losing power. I indicated to him that he should not be driving the vehicle and to pull over as soon as he could and to have it towed to the nearest repair facility because he was in Bellingham, MA which is miles from Norton where Midway is locatedIexplained to him that driving the vehicle would cause serious damage to the motor since I could not diagnose exactly what was happening over the phone without seeing the vehicleThat was the end of my conversation with ***.Roughly an hour later, *** arrived at Midway having driven his vehicle into the shopI was shocked that *** drove the vehicle in instead of having ittowed as I suggestedWhen I went out to talk to him and looked at his vehicle the engine was engaged and I could hear loud engine noisesI told *** that I could not believe he drove it all that way and that I hoped he didn't damage the motor too badly by driving it that distance.Upon inspection of his vehicle, I found the serpentine belt to be missingI also found oil leaking from the front of the engine and thewhole underside of the vehicle was covered in oil***'s vehicle takes quarts of oilWe drained out quarts of oil that was remainingWe replacedthe serpentine belt, replaced the oil filter and oil filter housing gaskets.The facility that had been servicing ***'s vehicle which was not Midway, had not replaced any filter housing O rings which is a procedure that is preformed when replacing an oil filter during routine oil changesIt is of my opinion that the oil that was leaking out from his oil filter housing saturated the serpentine belt, which is what caused thefailure of the beltIt also my opinion that if *** did not drive the car and had it towed as per my recommendation, this issue may have not occurredThe belt we used was matched to the VIN# of the vehicle and the motor sizeI feel that the work I performed on the vehicle was appropriateIt is unfortunate that this is how it ended up, but *** knew the consequences of his actions for driving it that distance instead of having it towed to a nearby shop as I recommended I don't feel I am responsible for whathappened to ***'s vehicle
