previous notes sent re this complaint, poor quality concrete and drainage problems with concrete floorSurface of concrete on driveway breaking up after less than one year from putting in new driveway and water pooling inside the garage floorDesired SettlementI expect that Midwest will replace the driveway and the section of the garage floor that is pooling water.[redacted]Business Response The surface issues are from salt. Washing vehicle in garage and driveway is what has caused the issue. Salt cannot be allowed to sit on the driveway. Once Mr [redacted] has power washed the driveway we will come back and reseal it. This will help prevent any further surface erosion.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)This is a completely inadequate response. The company didn't address the issue of water pooling in the back of the garage at all. Is he suggesting that salt is causing the pooling problem too? We have never washed our vehicles in the garage. We did wash our vehicles in the driveway in June but this was long after the problem of surface shaling occurred. We first brought this problem to the company in March 2014,barely 7 months after the job was done. It was still -30 degrees. We also have never used salt on the driveway and clearly with our extremely cold winters the City of Saskatoon and Sask highways don't use salt on the roads in winter. They have made it abundantly clear that salt in these cold temperatures doesn't work.Where then did the salt come from?May I suggest that we get an opinion from an independent engineering firm as to the cause of this problem? It is clearly not a salt problem. The pooling in the garage is simply a poorly done job. Water should drain out of the garage if the slope is done correctly.[redacted]Final Business Response We resealed Mr. [redacted]'s driveway yesterday. [redacted]. This should help resolve the issue.Final Consumer Response What does Midwest plan to do aboutour water pooling inside the back of the garage? [redacted]

Cement poured in July 2013.Surface is scaling off in multiple spots. Also concrete splatter on house stucco. No response from company on numerous callsWe had our driveway, walkway and a pad poured in July of 2013 BY Midwest Driveways. We noticed this winter that the surface is scaling off in many places. Also there is concrete splattered on the brand new stucco of the house along where they cut the lines in the driveway. I called and left a message on march 16 2014 and no one called me back. I Called again on April 1st and spoke to a lady([redacted]). She said she would send someone over. No one came or called. I called again April 22, spoke to a Lady again, she said they had been busy, and someone would come in a week or two. I asked her to have them call when they come so I can be there to show our concerns, she said OK. Again no one came or called. may 20 called and spoke to [redacted] again, she apologized and took down all my info again, and said she would have [redacted] come out right away. No one came or called again. It is now June 2nd and I am putting in this complaint with the Revdex.com, hoping to get this issue resolved. This was not some cheap side job deal, we paid $15,960.00 including tax, and are very disappointed with the quality of the driveway we were left with, the damage to our stucco, and the extremely poor customer service we have received in bringing our concerns to the company. [redacted]Desired SettlementWe would like the driveway repaired or replaced. Also we would like the damage to the stucco cleaned or repaired. Business Response With regard to the driveway at [redacted] we have been by and havelooked at the surface of the driveway. In April 2014 after Mr. [redacted] calledwe went and had a look at the driveway. [redacted]. Snow and ice had been allowed to accumulate over the winter on thesurface of the driveway. [redacted]. When snow and ice are packed on top of concrete it will cause the surface to deteriorate. The constant freeze/thaw cycle of snow and ice sitting on top of the concrete combined with salt from the roads will cause the surface to breakdown. Concrete is not indestructible and must be properly maintained. We do also provide a quote for having the concrete sealed with every job that we do. We advise all customers that this is a very important step and that it will help protect the surface of the concrete. Mr. [redacted] chose not to have us do this. [redacted] did try to contact Mr. [redacted] with his findings but was unable to contact him and had left a message. MidWest Driveways Ltd.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)In regards to the driveway being sealed, I had a conversation with [redacted] on the phone when they were doing our concrete work where we specifically talked about sealing the driveway and I told him we wanted it done. So we were under the impression that it was sealed. To refresh [redacted]'s memory, he called me asking if I was ok with them having the walkway go up to my second step rather than the bottom step to allow for a good slope, he mentioned it was common and was what he had done at his house. He then said he highly recomends the sealer, and they could not warranty if we refuse it. And I said to do it. Now we have no issues of flaking on the walk way or pad in the back, which were not shovelled at all over the winter, but were also poured a couple days before the driveway. It seems like there was some difference in the finishing between the front and the back, for the damage to be happening there only? [redacted]. So the driveway had been kept clear. I stopped shovelling when the surface was found to be deteriorating because I did not want to have any more of the concrete surface flake off. I only swept from that point forward, so there was some packed snow where people had parked and I could not remove with a broom. [redacted]. Also they mention that I was called and a message left in April, but I never received any message. If they in fact did leave a message and thought the issue was dealt with, why would they tell me numerous times after that when I called that someone would be coming over? April 22 I was told no one had been out and it would be a couple weeks still. may 20 [redacted] appologized for the delay when I called and said she would have [redacted] come over soon. Also there is no mention about the damage to the stucco on our house caused by them as mentioned in the complaint. Final Business Response We are willing to supply Mr [redacted] with a pail of sealant to help reduce any further damage done to his driveway. The driveways should be washed and resealed as soon as possible. [redacted]. Concrete cannot tolerate having salt and ice built up.Final Consumer Response [redacted] I do not feel that offering to give us a can of sealer is nearly an appropriate response to this situation. The driveway was supposed to be sealed when it was poured, by midwest driveways, not by me. Also the company again has not even acknowledged the fact that there is concrete splattered on the stucco of our house. Also giving me a can of sealant does nothing to remedy the crumbled part of the driveway. I feel the appropriate action would be for midwest driveways to resurface the crumbling area using an appropriate bonded topping mix and procedure, and to seal the driveway. This would probably ad up to a few hundred dollars materials total and a few hours of work. I am fine with them doing it, but if they are not willing I will have to have a different company come do it, which I am sure would cost more than midwest could do it for. [redacted]. As far as the stucco goes I will have to have the company that did the stucco come and give some options on what can be done there. This repair should be covered by midwest driveways as well. [redacted]

Concrete surface of driveway has lifted and broken away. During last 4 months I've called 3 times, sent 2 emails. No one has offered me a solution.Noticed problem during March 2014. Purchased driveway June 2011. Invoice #[redacted]. Business owners [redacted] & [redacted]. Payment amount $9,460.50. Paid by cheque June 21, 2011.I had a driveway put in by MidWest three years ago. I was told no guarantees for cracks or rock pops to driveways, but the concrete surface has lifted & broken up in large areas all over the driveway. Since April, 2014 I've called their office & discussed this 3 times & emailed with photos twice. I've always been told someone or [redacted] will look at the driveway and contact me. To this date no one has contacted me to discuss this issue.Desired SettlementI'm looking for Midwest Driveways to either repair if possible or replace my driveway this year.Business Response We have been out to view and take pictures of the driveway at [redacted] Cres. It appears that the issue with their driveways is damage due to snow and ice build up and salt. Large amount of snow and ice were packed on the driveway. It is evident that snow and ice were draining from your neighbours and adding to the build up on the driveway. Salt and de-icers eat away at the surface of concrete and cannot be used at all. MidWest Driveways Ltd.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I first took photos of the driveway April 13th, 2014 and contacted Midwest Driveways for the first time in an email with the photos. The photos show the concrete surface lifting. There is no snow or ice packed onto the driveway in these photos. The driveway is clear. The concrete lifting is clear in the photos.Midwest says they then came to look and take pictures and the driveway was packed with snow and ice. I do not know the date they say they came to look and take photos. Perhaps it had snowed that day. Regardless, the photos I sent them April 13, 2014 show a clear driveway with lifting concrete. They have not shown me their photos. They say salt and de-icer cannot be used on concrete, and I have not put either product on this driveway.

Concrete driveway has major breakdown happeningOur driveway was poured in August of 2014. As winter progressed we started to see some breakdown of the concrete at both front corners of the garage. I have tried to contact the company 3 times by email: 27March2015; 24April2015; 29May2015 and also left a voice message 27April2015. To date, they will not respond to my email or my voice message. [redacted]Desired SettlementThe company should repair the concrete.
