Midwest machinery blew up skidsteer
Midwest machinery in Wadena, MN has destroyed my buddy's skidsteer.
A few months back the skidsteer was brought to midwest machinery for a slight hydraulic leak and tune up. Soon after the customer got it back it was leaking oil badly, so they sent it back to Midwest Machinery to get that fixed.
While it was in the second time, they found another hydraulic leak (which was supposed to be fixed on the first visit), a "seeping" front main seal (it was pouring, not seeping), and they found the battery to be weak. They repaired/replaced all that and put it back together. They tried to start it and it would barely turn over. Assuming that it may be the starter, without any other tests, they replaced the starter which had little change to the cranking speed (even though the starter was not the problem the decided to leave the new starter in and and core return the previous working starter). They then drain the fluids and disconnect parts to check out the crankshaft. Before they had checked the crank they decided to turn it over with everything drained and disconnected, which it did finally turn over. So without checking the crank (which on the receipt it states they did)they put everything back together and refilled the fluids and started the skidsteer up lifted the arm put the arms back down and turned it off, checked fluids and put the sheilds back on. (this took 6 weeks)
They contact my buddy saying it is ready. he picks it up and it is running rough, but figured they said it was good and decided to drive it home as he lives close. 1 mile away from Midwest machinery the skidsteer overheats, so he pulls over and lets it cool down thinking maybe the coolant hasn't circulated through the system yet, he restarts the skidsteer and tries to drive it the rest of the way home and after a short distance it blows a rod through the engine. He called Midwest Machinery back telling them what happened and they came to pick it up and bring it back to their shop.
Almost a week later they contact him stating that it is his fault and are not going to take any responsibility for it. I went with him to figure out what exactly what happened and why. they do not know why it broke, but also refuse to take any reponsibility and also condradicted what the receipt says was done. It is also convenient that they did not keep records of the hours in or out of the shop which is standard practice. Fortunately I wore a recording device during our conversation and will be getting that prepared with pictures and names for a youtube video to warn others of this negligence of Midwest Machinery.
During this entire situation Midwest Machinery made about $4500 and my buddy is out a total of over $18,500.

Taken our skid steer here twice for repairs and it comes back worse than when we sent it Would not recommend taking your equipment here for repairs. Our skid steer was in the shop for almost 2 months for oil leak. Replaced crankshaft seal. Got it back & engine blew while driving it home, which was about 4 miles away. They are saying it's our fault and will not take any responsibility. Contacting lawyer.

I spoke with the location manager at our Baxter location. We will write off the bill in good faith. I will send a written notification to the customer per his request. I apologize for the delay, the original notifications were in our junk mail. Thank you.
