Mighty Strong Movers

I have never been more dissatisfied and disappointed by a vendor service than I was with Mighty Strong Movers on Monday, June 22, 2020. What was discussed in the initial quote is NOT what was done and on top of this I was charged for an extra full hour of service because of a blatant lie by the owner. Instead of the moving company bringing the materials discussed in our original quote conversation, I as the customer had to go out during billable time and buy shrink wrap to properly secure & protect my furniture. My sister and I had to help the movers shrink wrap my items in an effort to stay within 3hr time window only to later be charged extra for going over. This would’ve been avoided had the bubble wrap promised by the owner in our quote conversation been provided and used by movers upon starting the job. Due to the owner’s flat out LYING about how my furniture would be protected in our initial phone convo, I had to come out of pocket an extra $200 - $50 for shrink wrap I had to go and purchase on my own + $150 for going over not even 1 full extra hour of service when the job was still incomplete. Because the owner didn't provide promised materials, several pieces they were hired and paid to move were left at my home due to lack of protection and I had to go back and shrink wrap then transport these items myself, after having already been charged for an extra hour of service.

Detailed Account:
In our first conversation the owner, ***, quoted me $380 for 3hrs. of service (price included 3 movers), plus $75 for stairs; & anything past 3hrs +14min of service would be billed for one full hour at a $150 service rate. I agreed to these terms and expressed how important it was during this move to protect my furniture (living room + dining room sets and one desk) as it consisted primarily of light colored furniture and glass contents. I sent the owner pictures of the furniture, the area where it was being moved from, along with photos of the storage unit, all one day prior to my scheduled move. The owner *assuredme that my items would be protected and that specifically he would use bubble wrap to ensure my furniture was protected.

Upon the owner’s arrival for moving, however, much of what we originally discussed changed. *** sprung it on me that to cover my items for loading & transport, alone - with DIRTY BLANKETS & RUBBER BANDS, mind you - would be an additional $35 Fee. I reminded him that this wasn’t part of the original quote and that if there was an added fee to cover items he could’ve and should’ve mentioned this in our initial conversation, just one day prior. He quickly let me know that he could simply move the items without the blankets because it “did not matter to him either way”, but that if I wanted my items protected - again, by blankets & rubber bands, NOT bubble wrap - this would be an additional $35. Not to mention, the $35 protection was only for loading and transport - the owner stated that what happened to my furniture once unloaded into storage "was not his problem." *** also claimed that he mentioned bubble wrap as a “suggestion” for me as the customer to go out and supply for the move I hired him to do. I was outdone to say the least, because I knew the company I had entrusted my move to had just lied and flipped it on me the customer. I reached out to other local moving companies afterwards and found that both shrink/bubble wrap AND moving blankets together are industry standard with professional moving services...they’re not extra add-ons. It’s clear now, that Mighty Strong Movers makes up pricing as they go.

In that moment, however, I needed my furniture moved right away and didn’t want to haggle the owner on pricing when he’d already begun the job, so I acquiesced to the policy deviation and proceeded with the move. But service only worsened from there. The seat pillows from my couches/loveseat/accent chair, had to be bagged *by mein black garbage bags that I provided!! As for the shrink wrap - that was *supposed to be bubble wrap, brought by Mighty Strong Moversper mine and ***’s convo less than 24hrs prior - I had to go purchase this myself like I mentioned with the 3hr clock still running, and then manually help the movers shrink wrap my items to stay within the original time window. If my sister wasn’t on hand to help me then who knows how long it might’ve taken to help movers do the job I hired them to do! As the 3hr window came to a close, my furniture still had not been loaded entirely into my storage unit as, again, *WE (the movers, my sister and myself)HAD TO SHRINK WRAP THE ITEMS THERE ON STORAGE GROUNDS. When I mentioned my grievance with having to go and purchase moving materials he said he would but did not provide, then having to help them wrap my furniture on storage grounds while still being billed for time, the owner claimed it would’ve taken the same amount of time had he done the wrapping at my apartment. Another farce. He then proceeded to let me know I would be charged an additional $150 because by this time we had gone over 3hr +14min.

Had the owner brought the bubble wrap as promised in our initial quote convo, items would’ve been wrapped at my home on carpet instead of dirty concrete floors at storage and the move could have been completed WELL WITHIN the 3hr. window!! Because the owner did not bring bubble wrap or anything else to properly contain ALL of the items originally shown and discussed, many pieces were left behind at my home. I had to go back home and shrink wrap items myself that were left behind because the movers didn’t bring materials to securely transport and unload them. Mighty Strong Movers still, however, charged me for one FULL EXTRA hour of service without even completely finishing the job.

By this point I had had it with Mighty Strong Movers and simply wanted to be done with them and their horrible customer service. Interestingly enough, only after charging the extra $150 did the owner “waive” the $35 fee for covering my furniture in dirty blankets and rubber bands, dubbing this surprise fee as “miscommunication”.

Awesome customer service, professional, and prompt. Arrived on time and there were NO hidden fees. Very organized movers and friendly staff. Handled my furniture with care and were very cautious not to damage my new home. Highly recommended and I would use them again.
