Mike Battaglia Stamped Concrete Ltd. Reviews (4)

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowMrBattaglia states:“Upon going to bunnies home and seeing the problem she told me her three large dogs labs I believe they are P on the patio all winter long”My name is not BunnyMrBattaglia must be confusing me with another customer To be clear, my name is [redacted] MacLeanI do not have three dogs There are no dogs that ever urinate on my patio I never told MrBattaglia this, because it does not happen.MrBattaglia states:“this freeze thaw caustic urine on concrete will create havoc on the surface”It is not clear if MrBattaglia is talking about the freeze thaw cycle, or if he is combining it with his assertion about urine Concerning the freeze and thaw that takes place during the winter months, there are people all over the Rochester area who have patios that do not crack and crumble due to the winter conditions Their patios are installed with consideration of our climate, and proper expansion joints are cut to allow for freezing and thawing MrBattaglia did not cut the expansion joints deep enough, which is why the patio he installed is cracking As for dog urine I have consulted with two professional stamped concrete specialists They both told me that, even if dogs had urinated on the patio, it would not create the kind of damage that has occurred to my patio.Mr Battaglia states:“I apply another coat of sealer on tile that I did not want to get paid only for the material and I did not receive compensation”MrBattaglia came to inspect the damage in August, He said he didn’t know what was causing the damage (In August, it was only the crumbling and lifting from the surface top More deterioration and multiple problems have occurred since that time, even though he assured me that they would not.) He did seal it, and said that the sealer would prevent any further damage He did not ask for payment, nor did he bill me At that time there was a rust spot on one section of the patio He said that rust is impossible to remove, and he sealed over it I have since learned that rust can be removed with Xylene prior to application of sealer This spot can still be treated, but the sealer will need to be removed first MrBattaglia’s lack of knowledge has created a more complicated repair at an additional cost Additionally, in August, MrBattaglia told me that he was going to contact the concrete supplier to find out what might be happening He agreed to let me know the outcome of this conversation He never shared anything with me, and did not return my calls when I called to inquire.MrBattaglia states:“i'll be more than glad to come back again and try and apply a cement based acrylic fortified patching compound which should help resist the strong caustic action that happens all winter long”MrBattaglia has not seen the patio since August, There has been extensive cracking and chunks of concrete that have chipped off IN ADDITION to further surface deterioration, with pieces of concrete lifting off the surface He doesn’t know what needs to be done to repair it, because he has not seen it since August, I was repeatedly calling him for months I initially started calling him in May, I continued to call him during the months of June, July, August and September, During the month of August, I called him on a daily basis He made several appointments with me, and then never showed up And I left then countless phone messages to which he did not reply He didn’t know what the problem was when he saw the first damage in August, (However, two specialists have been able to tell me immediately what the problem was, and how to fix it.) How could MrBattaglia possibly propose a solution to a problem he didn’t understand more than a year ago, and for a patio that has had additional and different kind of damage that he has not seen?MrBattaglia states:“Out of the thousands of patios and walkways I have in the area this is the only one with this problem.”This is not true I have read other complaints on the Revdex.com website that describe problems with patios that MrBattaglia installed, and they are exactly the same complaints that I haveGiven MrBattaglia’s demonstrated lack of knowledge about concrete damage, as well as his history of unreliability, he will not be repairing my patio In fact, he is not welcome to set foot on my property His offer of repairs is not acceptable. At this point, I have two options I can replace the patio This will cost approximately $10, Or, I can have it repaired Consultations with credible professionals proposed power washing, Xylene spray, caulking all the cracks to match the color, filling chips with color, and sealing with grit The cost of this will be $if the damage remains the same after the winter of However, when the job can be done in Spring, temperatures, the price may be more, because of more winter damage that is anticipated during the coming season It was emphasized to me that this work will REPAIR the damage However, it will NOT PREVENT further damage that will occur because of MrBattaglia’s faulty installation There is no way to prevent continued damage So, I can anticipate the possibility of ANNUAL repair expenses If I have to pay $annually to repair winter damage, it will total $14,in repair expenses over the next years!I have had consultations with professionals who have expertise with stamped concreteI learned that there are multiple problems with the installation MrBattaglia did The crumbling and the chunks lifting off the surface is caused by improper cooling and drying after the concrete is pouredConcrete specialists who examined the patio told me that “bad” concrete was used This is a problem that will continue to occur, and there is no way to prevent it Additionally, MrBattaglia did not use mesh, and he did not cut the expansion joints deep enough All of the cracks are forming near the joints, because there is not enough room for expansion during the freezing and thawing process in the winter Additionally, all of the large chunks of concrete are chipping off from the edge of the joints (I have pictures of all of this damage that I can share.) I explored the possibility of having the expansion joints cut deeper now, to avoid further cracks and chips, but I was told that it is too late Proper depth of the expansion joint cuts would have needed to be done at the time of installation It is anticipated that more cracking will occur in coming years during winter weather conditions.I want MrBattaglia to reimburse me for the job I paid him to do He did not do it properly, and has created a situation that will continue to cost me large sums of money annually In fact, the costs of the annual repairs will cost me more than the installation MrBattaglia is responsible for this situation.Regards, [redacted]

To whom it may concern This is responding to ***'s complaint: Upon going to bunnies home and seeing the problem she told me her three large dogs labs I believe they are P on the patio all winter long this freeze thaw caustic urine on concrete will create havoc on the surface I apply
another coat of sealer on tile that I did not want to get paid only for the material and I did not receive compensation. i'll be more than glad to come back again and try and apply a cement based acrylic fortified patching compound which should help resist the strong caustic action that happens all winter long In our region we have a freeze thaw cycle to times a year meaning it's in the evening and during the day compounded with the hot urine it's going to create problems Out of the thousands of patios and walkways I have in the area this is the only one with this problem Thank you very much Mike Battaglia

I'm not sure of the reasoning why [redacted] denies her dogs and how they urinate on the patio in the winter.I am sure my intentions were to help her with her problem

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowMr. Battaglia states:“Upon going to bunnies home and seeing the problem she told me her three large dogs labs I believe they are P on the patio all winter long”My name is not Bunny. Mr. Battaglia must be confusing me with another customer.  To be clear, my name is [redacted] MacLean. I do not have three dogs.  There are no dogs that ever urinate on my patio.  I never told Mr. Battaglia this, because it does not happen.Mr. Battaglia states:“this freeze thaw caustic urine on concrete will create havoc on the surface”It is not clear if Mr. Battaglia is talking about the freeze thaw cycle, or if he is combining it with his assertion about urine.  Concerning the freeze and thaw that takes place during the winter months, there are people all over the Rochester area who have patios that do not crack and crumble due to the winter conditions.  Their patios are installed with consideration of our climate, and proper expansion joints are cut to allow for freezing and thawing.  Mr. Battaglia did not cut the expansion joints deep enough, which is why the patio he installed is cracking.  As for dog urine I have consulted with two professional stamped concrete specialists.  They both told me that, even if dogs had urinated on the patio, it would not create the kind of damage that has occurred to my patio.Mr Battaglia states:“I apply another coat of sealer on tile that I did not want to get paid only for the material and I did not receive compensation”Mr. Battaglia came to inspect the damage in August, 2014.  He said he didn’t know what was causing the damage.  (In August, 2014 it was only the crumbling and lifting from the surface top.  More deterioration and multiple problems have occurred since that time, even though he assured me that they would not.)  He did seal it, and said that the sealer would prevent any further damage.  He did not ask for payment, nor did he bill me.  At that time there was a rust spot on one section of the patio.  He said that rust is impossible to remove, and he sealed over it.  I have since learned that rust can be removed with Xylene prior to application of sealer.  This spot can still be treated, but the sealer will need to be removed first.  Mr. Battaglia’s lack of knowledge has created a more complicated repair at an additional cost.  Additionally, in August, 2014 Mr. Battaglia told me that he was going to contact the concrete supplier to find out what might be happening.  He agreed to let me know the outcome of this conversation.  He never shared anything with me, and did not return my calls when I called to inquire.Mr. Battaglia states:“i'll be more than glad to come back again and try and apply a cement  based acrylic fortified patching compound which should help resist the strong caustic action that happens all winter long”Mr. Battaglia has not seen the patio since August, 2014.  There has been extensive cracking and chunks of concrete that have chipped off IN ADDITION to further surface deterioration, with pieces of concrete lifting off the surface.  He doesn’t know what needs to be done to repair it, because he has not seen it since August, 2014.  I was repeatedly calling him for months.  I initially started calling him in May, 2015.  I continued to call him during the months of June, July, August and September, 2015.  During the month of August, I called him on a daily basis.  He made several appointments with me, and then never showed up.  And I left then countless phone messages to which he did not reply.  He didn’t know what the problem was when he saw the first damage in August, 2014.  (However, two specialists have been able to tell me immediately what the problem was, and how to fix it.)  How could Mr. Battaglia possibly propose a solution to a problem he didn’t understand more than a year ago, and for a patio that has had additional and different kind of damage that he has not seen?Mr. Battaglia states:“Out of the thousands of patios and walkways I have in the area this is the only one with this problem.”This is not true.  I have read other complaints on the Revdex.com website that describe problems with patios that Mr. Battaglia installed, and they are exactly the same complaints that I have. Given Mr. Battaglia’s demonstrated lack of knowledge about concrete damage, as well as his history of unreliability, he will not be repairing my patio.  In fact, he is not welcome to set foot on my property.  His offer of repairs is not acceptable. At this point, I have two options.  I can replace the patio.  This will cost approximately $10,000.  Or, I can have it repaired.  Consultations with credible professionals proposed power washing, Xylene spray, caulking all the cracks to match the color, filling chips with color, and sealing with grit.  The cost of this will be $734 if the damage remains the same after the winter of 2016.  However, when the job can be done in Spring, 2016 temperatures, the price may be more, because of more winter damage that is anticipated during the coming season.  It was emphasized to me that this work will REPAIR the damage.  However, it will NOT PREVENT further damage that will occur because of Mr. Battaglia’s faulty installation.  There is no way to prevent continued damage.  So, I can anticipate the possibility of ANNUAL repair expenses.  If I have to pay $734 annually to repair winter damage, it will total $14,680 in repair expenses over the next 20 years!I have had consultations with professionals who have expertise with stamped concrete. I learned that there are multiple problems with the installation Mr. Battaglia did.  The crumbling and the chunks lifting off the surface is caused by improper cooling and drying after the concrete is poured. Concrete specialists who examined the patio told me that “bad” concrete was used.  This is a problem that will continue to occur, and there is no way to prevent it.  Additionally, Mr. Battaglia did not use mesh, and he did not cut the expansion joints deep enough.  All of the cracks are forming near the joints, because there is not enough room for expansion during the freezing and thawing process in the winter.  Additionally, all of the large chunks of concrete are chipping off from the edge of the joints.  (I have pictures of all of this damage that I can share.)  I explored the possibility of having the expansion joints cut deeper now, to avoid further cracks and chips, but I was told that it is too late.  Proper depth of the expansion joint cuts would have needed to be done at the time of installation.  It is anticipated that more cracking will occur in coming years during winter weather conditions.I want Mr. Battaglia to reimburse me for the job I paid him to do.  He did not do it properly, and has created a situation that will continue to cost me large sums of money annually.  In fact, the costs of the annual repairs will cost me more than the installation.  Mr. Battaglia is responsible for this situation.Regards, [redacted]
