Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: I left the boat & motors, with instructions to have one of the larger motors, either the HP or HP repaired & working & one of the HP motors repaired, hooked up & ready to goTwo weeks later I stopped by & nothing had been doneHe said he was waiting for instructions, which I had given him alreadyI told him again that I wanted the boat with both motors hooked up & runningHe went on vacation for weeks and then I tried for one week to find out what progress he had made, leaving messages that were not returnedThe next week he said it was doneI picked it up, brought it homeThe next week I took it to the lake and it started but quit runningI took it back and waited about a weekHe called and said it was fixedI picked it up again, but it still would not continue runningWould start & quitI took it back again to be fixedHe called on a Monday, said it ran but needed some "tweaking"I called on Friday and was told not to call again, he was "tweaking" it and it would be done by that afternoonI waited until the following Monday to pick it upThe boat had 1/2' of water in it, which has ruined the upholsteryHe said it was done & I asked him to start it and he said he knew it would start & just get it out of thereHe got very angryHe had said before that it ran, but it didn't, so it was hard for me to believe him nowThere was no reason why he could not use his battery to prove to me that it ran, but he refused to do soI did not bring my own battery, as I did not want to invest in a new battery until I knew for sure it would run completelyHe also told me he would replace the starter solenoid, but he didn'tAs I left he said the starter was probably badIf that was so, he should have fixed it, as everything was supposed to be in working order upon completionAlso, in his response he said he gave me $for the bad motors, but I have received nothing for them, as he said they were just junk I had him start on the motors early in the year so everything would be ready for crab season the first part of July, plus salmon fishing when it openedHowever, I was not able to use the boat for either of these itemsAs things were not fixed as instructed where did my $800+++ goI do want a copy of the invoice, that I never received Sincerely, [redacted] ***

We reject Mr***'s latest fantasy. We stand on our original response which was true and we have the records to prove it. However, we will attempt to sort through this and answer some of it. Mr*** brought me his boat and motors (condition of the boat, dismal at best)The top was rotted and torn up, the seats were rotted and torn up, and there was garbage thrown about the boat. This boat had not been cared for in quite some time. The entire time Mr***'s boat was on our property it never had as much as a 1/in of water in it. Mr*** brought the boat & motors to me and asked me for a quote. He had no idea what condition any of the motors were in, whether they could be restored or not. The boat was here for a few weeks. I then shop checked all of the motors, went over the condition of the boat and called Mr*** with a quote. Mr*** accepted thatThe work was done on the HP and it was installed on the boat. Mr*** had failed to let me know he did not have any of the control wiring (electrical harness). Mr*** stated that he needed me to find the parts he needed to finish, there was an added cost; Mr*** accepted that. The work was done. I never told Mr*** that I had to put in a "new" starter solenoid but that I needed to find a good starter solenoid as none of these parts are available for this motor new. Mr*** was not charged for the solenoid as it was part of the wiring harness. The work was done. Mr*** came in, picked the boat up, both motors were test run as stated in our previous statement. Once again, Mr*** has failed to mention that we also installed a kicker motor bracket on the back of his boat on which the kicker motor would be hungThere is no 'hooking up' the kicker motor. Mr*** also failed to mention that he told us that he had the tiller arm (which controls throttle and steering of the kicker motor) and would bring it in. What he brought in was a broken piece of a tiller armWhen I told him the cost for me to repair he passedI was not on vacation for weeks. We were on vacation for a week over 4th of July holiday. Mr*** to date does not know whether the motor runs or not or the starter needs to be rebuilt because Mr*** will not supply a good battery for his boat and try them; not my responsibility. I did not ever agree to take Mr***'s boat out and test run it. That's another one of Mr***'s fantasies. It is an absolute falsehood that I 'gave' Mr*** a $for the bad motors. I deducted $from the original invoice for said scrap motors. As in our previous statement Mr*** is welcome to copies of his invoicesMy business will no longer address any of the blatant falsehoods or fantasies that Mr*** has accused us of. Once again, we stand on our original response. Should Mr*** feel the need to continue this we look forward to standing before a judge with our records in one hand, the truth in the other and let the law sort this outWe will not be part of this outrage to our character and integrityDue not contact me over this matter again

This is in response to the above complaint number
Mr*** originally contacted me in March asking me to take a look at a boat and some motorshe needed repairedHe brought his boat and outboard motors
into my shopOn April21, 2015, Mr.B*** was contacted and advised I had shop checked the Johnson 35, not repairable; 1985Johnson HP,not repairable; a Johnson 4O HP that was repairable as_Well as a Johnson 15HP that was also repairableMr*** was advised at that time the cost to repair said motors would beapproximately $Mr*** approved the work
On May 12,2015, Mr*** was contacted and advised said motors were repairedMr*** cameout to pick up the boat and motorsAt that time he advised me he did not have some of the requiredparts that should have been with the Johnson HP to make it operate properly on his boat, i.e.; powercontrol cable from dash to motor, and parts to hook motor up to steeringMr*** was advised that Ihad the parts and could finish the installation and modify the steering to work on the Johnson HP butit would be approximately an additional $300; which excluded the $that I agreed to give Mr***for the salvaged motorsMr*** agreed
Said parts were supplied and fabrication work was completed Mr*** was notified approximatelyMay 29,2015, the work was completed and came into the shopBoth motors, the Johnson HP andthe Johnson HP, were test run for Mr*** at that timeHe was also advised that he needed a newbattery as we were using our shop battery charger to start the Johnson HPMr*** paid theoutstanding invoice, copies of which were presented to himMr*** removed his boat and motorfrom my place of business
Approximately June 24,2015, Mr*** notified me that they had taken the boat to the lakeTheycould get the motor to start (Johnson hp) but couldn't keep it runningMr*** was advised tobring it back to the shop so we could rectify the problemJune 30,2015, Mr*** was advised thatthere was a carburetion problemI was going to have to find a good used carburetor and rebuild it torectify this problemOn July 9, 2015, Mr***'s wife contacted me and was concerned that Mr.Brown had paid us $to repair his motor and he could not afford anymoreI advised her that this waswarranty work and there would be no charge to them
We also discovered in the repair the cylinder head was bad so another cylinder head was procured, milled, new head gasket, and a good used carburetor was rebuilt and installedMr*** still had notsupplied a new battery, at which time Mr*** was advised again that he needed a new batteryHewas also advised there may be a starter problem and a starter rebuild would be necessary
All of the recent work was warranted, a cost of$at no charge to Mr***The battery is notmy responsibilityMy business did not work on his starter; therefore his starter is not my responsibility.Mr*** was advised the motor ran fineTwo of his friends came in to pick the boat upHe wantedme to run the motorThey still had not supplied a new batteryThey advised me they would bring a newbattery by in the next couple daysThat did not happenMr*** was advised to come and removehis equipment from my place of business
In summary, Mr*** failed to mention there were motors involvedMr*** failed to mentionthat of those motors were repairedMr*** failed to mention that this would have been almost a$1,job had we not credited Mr*** for the salvaged motorsMr*** failed to mention thatwe did almost $worth of warranty work to the HPMr*** failed to mention that he wasadvised numerous times that he needed a new batteryMr*** failed to mention that he was advisedthat there may need to be starter work doneBy Mr***'s own volition he has stated, "he still doesnot know if the motors going to run", so we can only sumise that he has not acquired a new battery. This matter is beyond our responsibility and beyond our control
As for the derogatory statements, Mr*** left me numerous extremely derogatory messages on mycell phoneThe only time anything derogatory was said to Mr*** was when he and his buddiesshowed up at my place of business, got out of their vehicle in a cloud of marijuana smoke and got intomy faceThey were told if they ever came to my place of business that way again the police would bevisiting themIt was extremely disrespectful as I am a recovering alcoholic and addict of years at thetime not to mention I believe it is illegal to do drugs and driveMr*** has an extremely interestingway of spinning the truthIf Mr*** would like copies of his original invoices we would be morethan happy to supply them to himWe consider this matter closed
Regards,
Michael L***
