Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/08/21) */
Customer came in with a complaint that his battery kept draining. After testing, it was determined that his battery and voltage regulator needed to be replaced. The tech then replaced the parts as needed and retested the charging system and...

realized that the aftermarket auxiliary lights that were installed at another shop were causing a parasitic drain on the battery. After disconnecting the lights, the tech then informed the customer in order to save the life of the battery and regulator he just installed the lights neede to be hooked up on a toggle switch. The customerthen stated he had them hooked to a swith but could not remember to turn them off, so he had [redacted] hardwire them to the batterycausing the drain and ultimate failure of the voltage regulator. Customer is on a [redacted] which does not have the charging system that is on a bagger/touring motorcycle. Customer left then returned and went directly into the back of the shop where it is posted
Employees Only for safety reasons. The customer proceeded to interrupt the tech as he continued other projects, asking him to reconnect the lights co that he may sell the bike. The tech informed the customer once again that by doing so he will be compromising the parts he just installed. The tech then proceeded to inform the customer of the quality and strength of the [redacted] and suggested if light was a concern of his the [redacted] would be a good and safe alternative to the lights he had installed. The customer then purchased the light, without checking to see if our department had time to install it and he went back and demanded the tech install the light for him as the tech was repairing another customer's bike. Convinced the diagnoses was incorrect the customer began to try and conect the lights himself, while in the doorway of the shop. As the customer continued, he was rude and making remarks regarding the techs ability, making it hard for the tech to continue working.
This was observed by others in the shop so in order to continue working with no distractions the garage door was shut.
We repaired the motorcycle to fix the customers issue. We recommended that the problem that caused the issue not be reinstalled. The parts that the customer had installed elsewhere were too much drain on the charging system and would continue to be a problem. We wish the customer had approached our [redacted] trained parts staff before purchasing the aftermarket lights he added to his bike. He brought the bike in with a serious safety issue and we fixed it and made the correct recommendations. We have Employee Only signs posted in our shop for the safety of our customers and employees. We are a very busy shop and can not stop in the middle of working on one customer's bike to repair another customer's bike. Our mechanic did not destroy the bike in the first place, it was broken when we received it. Who ever installed and hard wired the lights destroyed the bike. We are sorry that the customers first visit to our shop with a problem ended with him unhappy. Our mechanic [redacted] has one of the best attitudes that I have seen in a mechanic and has always tried his best to help fellow bikers get safely back on the road. If you make remarks about a persons abilities to others you can irritate them.
Mile High Harley-Davidson has worked hard to maintain an A+ rating with the Revdex.com since 2001.
