Miller Carpet One Floor and Home Reviews (1)

Review: intallers showed up at 9 30am to begin installation. I informed them that my elevator had gone out of service the evening before, but there were only two sets of steps and that I had two men to help. My friends and I helped get the largest roll of carpet up the stairs and installers began working. At first the installers were pleasant and communicative, but as the morning went on, they took frequent trips to their vehicle for ten minute intervals, each time returning with loud sniffling and growing more and more uncommunicative as the morning wore on. My friends and I moved furniture back and forth from room to room and out into the hallway as they worked, but commented to ourselves how obvious it was that installers were using drugs. At around noon the installer had finished the largest room and suggested that they get one of the last two rolls of carpet and my one friend and I get the other. (One of my friends had to leave by this point)The installers carried up one roll of carpet, but when my friend and I went downstairs we found that the installers had left us with a roll twice the size of the one they had carried up. I returned upstairs and informed the installers that I was paying them to install my carpet and that while my friend and I would not carry the last roll of carpet up, we would help them do so. Installers expressed their unhappiness at this, but continued working...even laying padding down in the last room in question. At around 12 45 the installers took a ten minute break down in their vehicle and then returned with trash bags and began gathering up scraps of carpet quietly. upon taking the last trash bag down they announced they were going to take a half an hour for lunch and would finish the job when they returned, I asked if they wanted help getting the last roll of carpet upstairs before they left, but they told me they might have a warehouse guy meet them after lunch to help them carry it. That was the last I saw of them!Desired Settlement: Installers never collected balance check. I have since contracted with another company to finish work for same amount of balance. I refuse to pay anymore to Miller, as they did not finish work. There is much more to this story, but not enough characters in your complaint box to finish.

Response:

When our assistant manager measured the job he asked [redacted], as they rode the elevator to his apartment, if we would be permitted to use the elevator to get the carpet upstairs. He explained that many condo and apartment complexes do not allow that and that it would be necessary for us to use it. [redacted] said yes.

Upon arrival at the job the installers found the elevator was out of service. The installer called the store and spoke to [redacted], the same assistant manager that had measured the job. [redacted] told the installer to bring the carpet back to the store and we would do the job when the elevator was working.

Apparently, [redacted] convinced the installer otherwise with promises to help him carry the carpet. However, neither I nor anyone in management was made aware of this. Had we been made aware of this I/we would have said NO, the customer may NOT help the installer carry this carpet up three flights of steps.

Later, the installer called to say the customer was not helping at which time I was informed of the situation. I, myself, told the installer to leave the job until the elevator was working. He said he would notify the customer which apparently did not happen. The customer called our store and spoke with Drue and then [redacted].

We cannot have a customer carrying carpet up steps for the installer for insurance reasons. The installer went against what he was told by management in allowing this to happen and has been dealt with accordingly. All of this was explained to [redacted] that evening by our customer service rep Drue and by our salesman [redacted]. The next morning when I spoke to [redacted] I also tried to explain this but our conversation quickly deteriorated.

If the customer wanted to pay in full for the carpet, taking possession at that time, and pick up the carpet himself and carry it up it would then be OK. Please see the attached letter which was sent via certified mail to [redacted] on April 25, 2014 for our stance on this situation. I do think [redacted] should pay us for the carpet, pad, and installation that was provided. The amount left to pay is $732.68 if he does not want the 12x19 that was not installed.
