Miller-Motte Technical College Reviews (5)

I am currently a cosmetology student at MMTCI absolutely love it! From enrollment everyone was extremely helpfulIt is defiantly a hands on experience and all of my instructors are fabulousThey really go above and beyound to help you get ready for your new careerIt is a demanding schedule so if you enjoy skipping class or leaving early be ready to make up hours.(or perhaps not waste everyone's time)I have learned so much already and I'm only half way through my programOne of my favorite things about the instructors is when you come to them with something new you want to practice/do they get excited and eager to help youI try to do things that are "new" and not so much the basicsI came in knowing the basics from high school and honestly thought I would be bored by nowNOT AT ALLThere's so much positive energy that most of the time I'm forcing myself out the doorThey don't try to emabrrass you if your not doing something incorrectly and instead guide you without the humiliation (ex: your cutting hair wrong instead of jumping in and taking over or critiquing you infront of someone they say things like "that looks great let me show you this technique I picked up on") I don't really have anything negative to say about the program at all It's what you make of it! ***Huge student perk is that students get free/ or discounted services from students in other departments as well as your own!!!

Miller-Motte Technical College (MMTC) strives to provide a
positive student learning experience and environment. As the Campus Director,...

I
take each student concern seriously. The Columbus, Georgia campus has three
computer labs equipped with internet-enabled computers that meet the necessary
technology requirements of both campus and online courses. In the event of any
hardware or software malfunctions, every student, faculty, and staff member has
access to contact our IT Help Desk by phone to report the issue; the contact
information to reach the IT Help Desk is prominently displayed in each computer
lab and throughout the campus. The technology fee exists to enhance the student
learning experience and increases Miller-Motte’s ability to meet the increasing
demands of an ever-expanding digital environment.

Students eligible to receive federal financial aid will work
with a financial services officer upon enrollment to set up a financial plan to
cover their education expenses for 9 months. MMTC is on a quarter system
wherein students must set up a new financial plan every 9 months or every 3
quarters unless, they are graduating. If the student is graduating before 9
months, loans will be prorated for the remaining 1 or, 2 terms, the student has
to complete. Students with questions about their financial aid are encouraged
to monitor their loan status by visiting www.nslds.gov
but, may also contact a campus financial service representative or, the online
financial service team who are available during extended hours, 7 days a week,
at 706-225-5000.

Our campus abides by an Open Door policy, and all students
may express their concerns directly to any staff member including myself.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution. The response stated that I attended class for 29 out of 82 days that I was scheduled, however, the school dropped me because I missed three consecutive days and when I tried to return back, they denied my readmission because I missed those days. Yes in 2010 I stated I was going to make payment arrangements on something they said I owed to be able to get my transcripts but I have never seen not one ounce of proof from the school (paperworkwise) in regards to me owing them anything. There was NEVER any correspondance with me about a so called owed balance for Title IV funds EVER except for when I tried to apply at another institution and obtain Financial Aide. The school is lying about attempting to contact me but not verifying the address where they attempted to contact me. I am not the only student this school has done this to and something needs to be done!

Miller-Motte Technical College (MMTC) has reviewed this student's complaint, and will be reaching out to her directly to address her concerns. Due to federal student privacy regulations, MMTC is unable to provide specific information related to this student's account. On a broader basis, MMTC would...

like to clarify the following areas in which the student may have been confused:
All new students are required to review and sign an Enrollment Agreement prior to beginning any courses with MMTC, and the Enrollment Agreement clearly outlines the total program cost (tuition, books/supplies, and applicable fees).
The U.S. Department of Education determines the total allowable amount of the federal Pell Grant that students may receive.
The U.S. Department of Education grants every student considering attending a college/university the opportunity to view a program's Estimated Cost of Attendance; this is intended to be a snapshot of what a typical student enrolled in that program may pay, and does include a section for Housing and meals, but that is not a part of the actual program cost, nor does it appear on the Enrollment Agreement.
All MMTC students are given the opportunity to review and approve their Funding Plan, which outlines all student loans and grants used to fund their education.
All MMTC students are encouraged to directly contact the Financial Services department with questions related to their account, which can be done in person during campus operating hours, or by phone six days a week.

Review: I attended MMTC when they were located on Memorial Ave back in 2001. For the past 2 years I have been trying to go back to school., my financial aide is denied because MMTC states I owe them $783 for over payment of federal funds. However, I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICES FROM THE SCHOOL, at all about the over payment and the school will not release my transcripts to me or show proof of notification or attempts to claim this debt they claim I owe them. I am now seeing that I am NOT THE ONLY ONE to whom this school has frauded!Desired Settlement: I am requesting my transcripts from Miller Motte and this so called balance to be wiped clean.

Response:

I was able to review your account and wanted to address your concerns in regards to the balance and informing you of the balance on the account. You completed 29 out of 82 days of the term from 1/14/2002 to 4/5/2002. In addition, your Title IV funds for tuition you received a stipend of $694.78 on 1/31/2002. Your last date of attendance was 2/11/2002. When we calculated the aid that had to be refunded according to the Department of Education’s regulations, you earned 35.37% of Title IV aid which is $918.91 and you received a total of $2,598 (gross amount of loans and Pell). We refunded $1,212.67 back to the lender because you chose a stipend and then did not return and complete the classes. There is a notated activity in our system that [redacted], a financial aid officer, spoke with you on 2/16/2010 and you stated that you would begin making monthly payments in order to receive your transcripts. I tried to verify your address in our system and see that we had several updates on the following dates: 9/04/2004, 1/06/2006, 2/10/2006, 6/13/2006 and 1/28/2009. Our policy is that we do not release transcripts until a balance is paid. That said, we both want to have a resolution for you, so I would like for you to contact me directly at [redacted]. You and I can work out an arrangement for you to be able to receive your transcripts. I look forward to helping you.[redacted] Campus DirectorMiller-Motte Technical College
