Millville Mutual Insurance Company Reviews (1)

Review: My home caught fire on the night of February 27,2014. Millville is my home's insurance company. I contacted them the day after the fire, from my hotel room and was asked if I had shut the water off to the house as I was leaving it. I said no, it was on fire and when I was allowed to return to the home by the fire department, I was not allowed to go just anywhere due to the water damage and condition of the house. I was reprimanded by the person on the phone about it. I then met with the adjuster the next day at the house and was told by Kristen H[redacted], the adjuster, that the company would reimburse me for the groceries I had lost, over $128 I had spent within the two weeks prior to the fire. She told me that, if I had most of my receipts, the company would pay for them. I found most of the receipts in the house and put the list together to send to her. She contacted me after she had received it and said that they would not be paying it owing to the fact that my deductible was $250. I was devastated. I was in a hotel room with my 3 dogs and my daughter's cat and no money. I still had to find a kennel to take the dogs, drive more miles back and forth to my new job (as of January 8,2014) and try to live on the continental breakfast at the hotel. The first check I received from Millville was more than a month later. In the meantime, I had to borrow from friends in order to pay for the extra gas, my food and other necessities. I live paycheck to paycheck and was not prepared for this loss. I had been on unemployment and working a part time job for over a year. Millville showed no sympathy and the adjuster was never reachable, even after I had been at the hotel for about 2 weeks and was told by the hotel staff that my stay was up, since the insurance company had not extended my stay there. My house was not cleaned yet, all of my belongings were in storage or being cleaned and when I called Kristen's cell phone, I had to leave a voice mail message. This was on Sunday and supposedly my last day at the hotel. Kristen did not call me back but instead contacted the hotel manager via email to extend it, in the mean time I was left to worry about what was going to happen to me and I could not sleep. I was not told until the following evening when I got back to the hotel that my stay was extended. When I did receive information about my re-entering my home on April 1, 2014 I came home to just my furniture, minus my mattress and box springs that had been thrown into the dumpster by the cleaning company. I contacted Kristen to tell her that I had no bed and she said that, until I sent her the information regarding the cost of the items, she would do nothing. She also did not tell the company that I was back in the house, I had to call them to ask where my soft goods were. I had to sleep on the sofa in my Carhartt bib overalls, jacket with the hood up, gloves and two pair of socks to keep warm. I had over 200 boxes in my house and not many of them were marked as to the contents. It took 2 weeks of sleeping on the sofa to finally get a check for the mattress and box springs. It is now almost August and I have sent more inventory loss papers to Millville and Kristen and still have not been reimbursed for the June 2,2014 bill for $275+ that the appliance repair man cost for my dishwasher and washing machine visit. I sent them in to them in the middle of June, the appliance man wanted me to test the washing machine to make sure his repairs worked. Insurance companies should not treat their clients like this. I wound up on a sleeping pill while in the hotel when I thought I was going to be kicked out and I have to beg to get money owed to me after the fire. This is unbelievable. I put everything in writing to them since March because I wanted a paper trail. I also kept copies of the checks I received and when.Desired Settlement: Pay me what I have sent the paperwork in for, as asked. Contact me in writing only, as phone calls mean little to me. This will be closed when I am sure I have all that I lost is paid for or repaired to my satisfaction.
