It is not true that Bunker Hill provided a detailed response to me or the DOIThey provided a vague response saying simply that the increase was due to "rate increases." The only specific one they mentioned was a four-percent inflation guard, which doesn't come close to explaining why my premium went up by as much as percent a year, even though nothing about my dwelling or policy changed, and I had submitted zero claims. They argue that I accepted the renewal offer. I never actively accepted renewal offers. I suppose it renewed automatically. Yes, I should have checked on that, but I never expected the rate to skyrocket for no reason. And, regardless, I was clearly overcharged. When I finally realized what was going on and canceled the policy, I got a new policy for a third of the premium. I now pay a premium of $1085, whereas Bunker Hill was somehow charging me $3197. And, still, to this day, there is no explanation for why it went from $to $3197. Bunker Hill charged me $more than I would have paid had my premium never gone above the $I am now paying. It's clear this is a scam in which Bunker Hill hopes customers like me do not check their escrow account and end up paying a premium that is hiked up astronomically for no reason. Regards,

Bunker Hill has yet to provide explanation for increasing my premium by percent despite no claims and no changes to policy or dwelling. The only explanation they gave in their response to the DOI was that the increase was due to "rate changes" and four-percent inflation guard. Obviously, the reason they cannot give detailed breakdown of the rate increases is that they do not have it. They simply hike rates without justification and hope the customer does not notice. There is a reason they have the worst possible rating on Google. They have seven reviews, and every single one gave them one star--the lowest possible score. Regards,

We are disappointed that the consumer remains dissatisfied, but we strongly disagree with his characterization of his experience with our company. Greetings, Bunker Hill Home and Renters policies are set to Automatically Renew.  To protect both the insured and the carrier from unnecessary liability and miscommunications we require a written request from either the agent or insured to cancel a policy.  In this instance neither Mr. [redacted]...

nor his agent informed us they wanted to cancel policy [redacted].  We take Mr. [redacted]’s letter to you as a written request and will cancel the policy flat effect 3/3/2016 and remove the $42 from collections.  Please let me know if you have any questions. Greetings, Bunker Hill Insurance is a home insurance company.  The customer has complained about increases in his home insurance premium over a period of about 10 years.  In May 2017 we provided a very detailed response to the Massachusetts Division of Insurance (DOI) after the...

customer complained to that office.  We confirmed that the customer was charged the correct amounts over the years, in accordance with our rate filings which have been accepted by the DOI.  Our letter to the DOI explained in detail why the premiums increased over that 10 year period.  Each year the customer received a renewal offer and accepted it, knowing what the premium would be for the upcoming year.  The fact that invoices were sent to his mortgage company to pay the premium out of escrow funds, is not relevant, as the customer could see how much he was paying to the mortgage company for the insurance premium escrow each month and he could see the amount of the premium on each annual renewal offer.  Following our letter to the DOI last May we did not receive any further complaints from the DOI; therefore it appears the DOI accepted our explanation.    As you can see, Bunker Hill has handled the customer’s policy correctly and did not “take advantage” of the customer, who could have cancelled his policy at any time during the past 10 years if he felt he was being charged too much.
