I called for a last minute booking and I spoke with [redacted] who was very pleasant and did everything she could to make it happen for us. The two movers she sent were extremely professional and had a great attitude considering it was one of the hottest days of the year. I would absolutely recommend Mini Movers to family and friends.

Mini Movers failed to show up for a move scheduled for Jan. 7/18 at 9 a.m. and I have yet to receive my deposit in the amount of $165 back.
Dec. 29, 2017 I spoke to *** & confirmed that I would like to hire her company Mini Movers to move the contents of a 5x10 storage unit to Brampton. The move was scheduled for Jan. 7/18 at 9 a.m. I paid *** a deposit of $165 to secure this moving date. On Jan. 7/18 my husband and I waited at the storage unit for over 3 hours and the movers failed to show up. *** was not able to offer any explanation for this nor did she offer any compensation or alternate arrangements. We were then forced to find another company to complete the move as we needed the move completed that same day, which *** was notified about that same day (Jan. 7th) and I asked that my deposit be returned to me. I have since requested my deposit multiple times (via email) but to date I still have yet to receive my deposit back. The last I heard from *** was on January 12, 2018 (via email)wherein she alleges that the person that was scheduled for my Jan. 7th move passed away the morning of the move and that all deposits, after review, will be returned in a timely manner. It has not been 11 days since that email and 16 days since I requested my deposit back. Not only has my family been inconvenienced by having to find last minute (expensive and inconvenient) arrangements for this move now it appears that Mini Movers/*** has no intent to return my deposit. This is clear cut - Mini Movers was hired to provide a moving service that they failed to provide (regardless of the reason); therefore my deposit should be returned to me without further delay.

Desired Outcome

Mini Movers was hired to provide a service that they did not provide, therefore my deposit in the amount of $165 should be returned to me in full.

Mini Movers Response • Jan 23, 2018

It is with regret I was unable to provide the service to my customer that morning. I kept in constant contact with them via phone and was unable to explain where or why my mover had not shown up for this move.He had confirmed the night previous. Unable to contact him I became increasingly worried about his whereabouts as it was out of character for him to not answer his phone or be on time for work.
I apologized for the delay and tried to explain this to my customer whol displayed very little concern for my movers whereabouts or welfare. Her husband accused me of providing delinquents who probably had a hangover.
I gave them the option to reschedule their move or feel free to seek another moving company as at that point had no alternatives or answers (although it would have been in my best interest to just reschedule as is within my right to do so if circumstances are beyond my control).
Unfortunately my mover passed away that morning and to see this written by this customer as an "alleged" death is offensive. I have an excellent reputation in this community for nearly 20 years and in this industry and will not defend myself on this issue.
As soon as I discovered what had happened I emailed all my customers who this affected and assured them including this customer that deposits will be returned if their move was cancelled.
I am processing my personal grief at the moment and will return to the office on Feb 15 2018 at which time I will review and return any deposits that were affected by this loss. This has been explained to this customer already via email. I'm not responding to any emails that are not of urgent nature right now and ask for this to be respected.

I have been in contact with any customer this affected and they have been extremely understanding of my circumstances with the exception of this customer.
Again, I assured this customer her deposit will be returned (on Feb. 15 ) upon my return to work.
This is not only a business matter it is an personal and emotional matter to me as I have lost an excellent employee and long time personal friend. Tending to this loss and his families loss is my priority at moment.
I trust this is satisfactory.
Best

***,

Further to my telephone conversations with you yesterday, due to your company's failure to show up for the move scheduled for 9 a.m. yesterday we were forced to make alternate arrangements to ensure that our move proceeded yesterday. To date, I have yet to receive an explanation from you as to why your movers failed to show up as yesterday. As a result, I requested that my deposit of $165.00 be returned to me via email money transfer. I still have yet to receive my deposit back and expect that you will do so immediately and without further delay. As advised, you may send the e-transfer to ***

Best Regards,

These emails show that at no point was I advised that my deposit would be returned to me on a specific date or that she was grieving until February 15, 2018. I was only advised that "all deposits, after review, will be returned in a timely manner."

Also, at no point on the day of the move was she concerned about ensuring that our move proceeded, instead she continued to tell us to "sit tight" and left us waiting around for the movers (for 3 hours) to see if they show up while she continue to contact the "head mover" to find out why they haven't arrived. Another strange event on that day was that she claimed that she only has contact information for the "head mover" so she had no way on contacting the second/other mover the was supposed to be assisting him that day to find out what's going on/why they haven't shown up. It is very strange and alarming that a company would employ persons/movers and not have their contact information on file.

Given all of these strange events/explanations on the day of the move, and now the owner providing an inaccurate description of these events (on the day of the move/after the move) in response to my complaint, it's not hard to see why I now felt it appropriate to use the word "alleged". If I one has no proof that something is true then it is alleged.

As I am not an unreasonable person; therefore, had I been told that my deposit will be returned on February 15, 2018 I would not have wasted my time filing this complaint. Having that being said, if my deposit is returned on February 15, 2018, then I will be satisfied and very happy to finally put this behind me.
