Mint Julep Spa and Salon Reviews (1)

I am a self employed salon owner. I schedule clients 4 weeks in advance with very few open appointments in between.  I run a very professional establishment. I was at work with a client in my chair on Wednesday, May 24th when Shay walked into my salon. I greeted her at the front desk and asked...

if I could help her. She said she was wondering if she could talk to the person whom she was scheduled with for Thursday the 25th for an extension consultation, which is a half hour time frame. I said I'm Julie, that would be with me. She proceeded to tell about how her hair and how at that time was in horrible condition and asked me if I could take a look at it. I moved my client from my chair to accommodate her to see what was going on. She took head band and hair tie out and had her natural hair colored a level 3 mahogany box color from the dollar store, as well as 3 tracks of extension hair that had been glued in with a massive amount of glue that were hot pink and blonde. I immediately told her that this was going to be a long process if she wanted me to fix this. She said whatever you can do. I honestly felt bad for her. Her hair was a mess. I gave her a free glue remover to take home with her to get the glue out of her hair that was also attached to her scalp. I gave her directions of how to use it and how long it would take. I then proceeded to my schedule to see what I had available. She proceeded to tell me that she would be bringing her own extensions with her. I opened my schedule for her on Friday the 26th at 11 am. This is Memorial Day Weekend where I have planned this weekend off for months due to family coming in from out of town and heading to our cottage until Tuesday. I truly felt bad for her and her husband was coming home Monday. She comes in for 11am appointment on the 26th with blonde extensions and says 'I want to be blonde'. I said this is going to be a very long process and is going to be expensive. She said 'do what you can'. I consulted with a few of my fellow cosmetologists and asked their opinion as well. There are several stylists who saw her and her hair and what state it was in. I began the first step of the 9 that I completed that day to make her natural hair blonde and coloring her extension hair to blend with her natural hair. It is now 5:30 pm. I have family waiting for me. At this time her natural hair is a HEALTHY blonde with lowlights. Her extensions are perfectly colored to match her natural hair. The 2 lower extensions are sewn in. In this industry especially with extensions you never know exactly how you are going to have place them until you are doing it. As a professional/certified stylist in braiding and sewing I now realize that she will need a custom clip in to finish the service. If I were to finish this last step process I would have been there another 2-4 hours. At this point her hair looks okay to tie up in back and wear in a bun until I could finish. She was even complimented by someone leaving the salon for how nice it looked. You couldn't even tell that there were extensions being hidden in the back. The end of service charge for that day was $450. This was including everything for her. This truly is not how much I should have charged her, although I gave her a break. We discussed coming to the salon on Monday which is usually my day off. She mentioned even on the holiday and I said yes. She wrote me a check for $475, $25 tip. We left and went separate ways. Monday night comes. I start to think about my workday on Tuesday and remember Shay. I immediately text her and apologized and told her I forgot. I did not lie, I was completely honest and made an honest mistake and I felt horrible. I told her I could get her in on Tuesday to finish and rectify the situation. I then proceeded to bank Tuesday morning and deposited check. From this point forward there were several text messages that went back and forth. I have all of them. I tried to get her in to rectify the situation Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Finally on Friday I sent a text and said 'I'm feeling very uncomfortable with the amount of money that you have spent that you are not coming in to get it finished. She then responded to me that she had cancelled the check on Friday the 2nd and contacted the Revdex.com. She has walked away with $530 worth of services. Although I only charged her $450. She has also taken a receipt from me to turn into her insurance company for reimbursement for hair. She is now getting paid from insurance money for something she didn't even pay for. She was also blaming another salon for the previous extensions that she had in. I'm very good friends with the owner of the salon she was speaking of. It was not true. I think she is a scam artist. She got me good. If anyone she should have contacted you on the previous extensions she had. There was no damage whatsoever to her natural hair or extensions in my chair. I'm walking away from this one. I will not be contacting her for payment or anyone else. I learned a very valuable lesson with this one. I was truly trying to help this woman out. She is not welcome in my Spa and Salon.   Thank you,   Julie [redacted]
