Review: On January 23, 2014 I went in for an appointment at Mira Mesa Dental Care to have a wisdom tooth out and a teeth cleaning. Since I had been there before, the office had my past insurance information. Upon arrival I was notified by [redacted] the receptionist, that my insurance wasn’t going through. I then called my employer who handles my insurance and was given a new number and told I was still with Dental Dental However, the group/plan had changed. I gave the new information to [redacted] who tried to check it on the Delta Dental website however, it still was not going through. I told [redacted] that I could reschedule, that this was not a pressing appointment. She assured me that they would take the Delta Dental insurance and that there was probably some glitch in the Delta Dental website which is why my insurance wasn’t coming up. That this kind of thing happened all the time. She then hurriedly pushed me along to my appointment and told me to call back after I confirmed the insurance number with my employer. I called back after the appointment and told the staff member who answered the phone (not [redacted] that the number that I gave [redacted] was indeed correct. She told me that if there were any problems they would let me know. Since I didn’t hear anything back, I assumed there weren’t any problems with my insurance processing from that point on.

On May 17, 2014 my sister who lives in San Leandro, California called to tell me that I received a $640.20 bill with my name on the bill however, the envelope was addressed to her. This is strange because I do not or have not ever lived at that address. Also, they already had my correct address on file. I called Mira Mesa Dental Care and spoke with [redacted] who took my insurance information yet again. A few days later [redacted] emailed me and told me that “your current insurance is an HMO plan and that our office is not a provider of Delta HMO, so we cannot use your insurance to bill the services performed”. I was very caught off guard since I was told that they would take the Delta Dental insurance from the very beginning. Even though my plan and insurance number had changed. If there was a chance my insurance number wasn't going to go through I should not have been seen. If I knew there was any chance at all that my eligibility wouldn't be verified I would have never ever agreed to be seen. I have insurance. Mira Mesa Dental Care was aware that my insurance changed and I told them I was willing and could reschedule. I definitely was not adamant about being seen that day, their office was adamant about seeing me. In fact, I feel like I was rushed through the whole process and taken advantage of. That they do not have their customer’s best interests at heart. I think it was very careless and negligent for Mira Mesa Dental Care to assume that my insurance would be processed. Under no circumstances would I have had the work done if it wasn't going to be accepted. Now I am stuck with $640.20 in dental bills when I pay for dental insurance every month. I really feel like this was a case of negligence and should have been handled with a little more care by their office. I do not feel like I should be obligated to pay for these services.Desired Settlement: Mira Mesa Dental Care voids bill.
