I am writing in regard to a complaint submitted on 05-11-with *** from*** ***.The client came to our clinic with a puppy to be spayedThe puppy was spayed and didwellThe problem arose at checkout when only at that time did it come to the attentionof the receptionist
that there was a voucher from the Lakeshore Humane Society fortheir Spay Neuter Assistance Program(The voucher had been left with the vet tech atcheck-in, but the vet-tech is a new employee and did not know that we do not acceptthese vouchers.) When the client informed the receptionist that our clinic was listed onthe LHS website as one which does accept the vouchersno further comment wasmade and this client did not pay anythingNo bills have been sent to the client from ourpractice.There was post-operative pain medication prepared to send home with the client, butthe client was informed that she would need to pay $for this medicationThe pethad received narcotic pain medication at the time of surgery and did have painmedication on board at the time of dischargeThe client elected to not purchase thismedication and left.There is an application for the voucher program through the Lakeshore Humane SOCietywhereby persons Who qualify receive a voucher for spay or neuter and the clinic isreimbursed $Our fee for spay of a female canine are around $250.00.The~ fees cover pain medication, sedation, anesthesiaanesthetic monitoring by aCertified Veterinary Technician, surgery with full aseptic preparation and individual*** *** ***, all sterile surgical materials, post-operative pain medication andIn-hospital monitoring throughout the day by a cvrWhen I purchased this practice in I immediately informed the Humane Society that it is not possible for me toperform a safe, pain-free, high quality procedure in the manner which I strongly believeto be in the best interest of the pet for $This does not begin to even cover thecostsThe LHS was told by myself to remove our name from the list that accepts suchvouchers in I did inform the LHS that I would continue to perform free healthchecks on newly adopted shelter pets and if there was a time I when was instructing avisiting vet student we would potentially do procedures at a reduced costI immediatelycalled the shelter after being informed of this incident and requested again that ourname be removed from the websiteThe person to whom I spoke said that it would beremoved immediatelyWhile our name is not on the website under the ParticipatingVeterinary Clinics list on the Programs - SNAP tab, it is still on the brochure under theForms - SNAP tabI will be contacting them again, this time by phone and by certifiedletter to request that they remove our name from the list.It appears from the form that the client is claiming that there is a disputed amount of$This client did not spend any money at our clinic and we have not sent her anybills or requested anything further from her, therefore it is unclear what exactly is beingrequestedHer pet received top surgical care at our practice, worth $200-$250, andshe did not pay anything other than the $to the LHS (which we will be reimbursedthat much from them)We do not make any claims of being affiliated with the LHS,other than we will perform free health checks on newly adopted pets.It is unfortunate that the new employee did not bring the voucher to anyone's attentionat check-in, and unfortunate that the LHS cannot seem to get their information straight.Additionally ,our policy is that persons leaving a pet for a procedure pay the cost inadvanceand it was the mistake of the receptionist to not request payment at check-inas usual, as this would have brought the issue to light before the pet was even spayedand the client could have gone elsewhere that does accept SNAPHowever, the clienthas never contacted me regarding the matter and it would have been perhaps moreappropriate for the c6ent to address her concern with me or the LHS rather than directcomplaint to Revdex.com.Sincerely,*** *** ***Mishicot Veterinary Clinic###-###-####
