I've received service from this business twice. The first service was fine. The second service I was charged 248.00 for a 29.99 part, on top of a 109.00 charge for the service call. Worker did give the option not to put the part on that day, but it was 40 degrees in my home from no heat. This part price markup has to be near criminal level

AC was working and cooling, but making a horrible noise. Got estimate andwas told it needed a motor. I told them I was going to replace unit soon soI did not want to spend any more than needed. They told me they would getme a new motor and put a pound of freon in it and it would be $500. When Igot home the second day(another part of the story) the technician gave me abill for $725. Said they had to go buy a new fan because my fan did notfit on the motor they bought! Then he also charged me $67.50 for a trip togo buy the fan! I never approved those additions and I have talked topanother company and was told they did not have the right motor if the fandid not fit! I am furious. It is getting ready to get hot and I do notwant people to be taken by HVAC companies!Desired SettlementI want this bill adjusted! I do not want to pay for something that was their fault in the first place. They knew how I felt about the repair in the first place and then to do additional service without approval is not right.Business Response I appreciate your inquiry. Mrs. [redacted]'s Carrier Condenser is 17 years old and the new replacement motor provided by Carrier is now a Frame 48 motor; while the original motor from April 1997 was a Frame 42 motor. The frame size dictates the diameter of the motor body; with the new motor being wider. With the wider motor body, the original fan blade from 1997 would not fit on the 2014 replacement motor provided by Carrier. Carrier does not make the motor and acknowledged, after the fact, that the original fan blade would not fit the new motor. Both motors were manufactured by General Electric and they have altered their design over the past 17 years to improve efficiency and performance. The Carrier part numbers on both motors are exactly the same.Our Service Technician should have notified Mrs. [redacted] of this motor diameter difference and the associated increase in price due to the need for a new blade. We have reviewed this issue with all of our Service Technicians.I have spoken with Mrs. [redacted] about her concerns. She was prepared to pay the originally quoted $545.84 for a new motor and one pound of refrigerant. I have offered to waive the additional $179.35 that our Service Technician charged for the new fan blade; although we are not responsible for manufacturer changes and updates. I'm offering this reduction in charge since our Service Technician did not obtain Mrs. [redacted]'s prior approval. I will be returning Mrs. [redacted]'s original motor and blade to her home this afternoon so that she can witness that both motors and blades are different; although they have the same Carrier part numbers.I offered to take Mrs. [redacted]'s credit card to close this issue out today for the original amount per both parties agreement; but, she was not in a position to provide her credit card. As of this response, we have not received payment for our services.Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns about this issue.
