Mitchell's Building Company Reviews (1)

Review: I am stating a complaint against Mitchell Building Company, LLC., Owner Corey Mitchell

[redacted].Phone #[redacted]

The end of March 2015, Mr. Mitchell came to my home to give me an estimate to remodel my bathroom. My bathroom is 8 feet 6 inches by 6 feet. I knew this would be a small job.

Before he gave me an estimate I told him I had to have a frosted glass/poly glass to cover my stain glass window for privacy. He said NO problem, his company put in that type of window all the time, When he finally got the window in it was plain poly glass. The next day his employee ([redacted]) had put a frosted adhesive covering over the plain poly glass. I paid for a frosted window not adhesive covering. This was the main priority for remodeling my bathroom.

Starting at the beginning of my complaint, on April 2, 2015 Mr. Corey Mitchell came to my home with a contract to sign, The contract has several errors in it, but that is not my complaint.

On April 8, 2015 at 3:47 pm Mr. Mitchell called said they could start on my bathroom on April 30, 2015 between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. He ask that I have everything removed off or near the walls because the vibration due to remodeling. I wrote the date and time on our active calendar. On April 30, 2015 around 10:00 am my sister (that's lives with and works midnight shift) called Mr. Mitchell is see if there was a problem. He told her that we had misunderstood and they would start work on May 7, 2015. We have moved everything per Mr. Mitchell's request. This request caused us to move items from 2 rooms disrupt our house hold. My bathroom is on the front of my house between 2 rooms. The window is in the middle of the shower. Not expecting the remodeling to take all summer I had to move furniture that blocked the closet with my summer clothes. I could not get to my summer clothes until June 11, 2015, so I was wearing winter clothes in 80 degree weather.

Mr. Mitchell sub contracted the tile work to [redacted]. I had my shower and the floor tiled.

The subcontractor listen when I had a question and he asked questions if he had any doubts about how I wanted the job done. I am very pleased with his work and very thankful Mr. Mitchell subcontracted it out.

On April 10, 2015, about 3:30 pm I meet Mr. Mitchell at [redacted] in [redacted] to pick out the material need and I wanted for my bathroom. I told Mr. Mitchell, I would have to rely on his construct knowledge as to what material went together. He used his cell phone and took pictures of the material I wanted, He took pictures of the Shower head, Commode, Towel and toilet racks, tile and light. He said I could pick out the paint later. I had seen the samples and told him I like the Peachy Beige (Naive Peach) from the samples.

With Mr. Mitchell taking pictures I though this remodeling would be a breeze. Wrong..

When the subcontractor put the shower head in, it was wrong. I had picked out a double head shower head not a single. He said that was the one Mr. Mitchell had sent but it could be changed.

When [redacted] (Mr. Mitchell employee) started working on the rest of my bathroom he installed the wrong commode. I picked out a commode with smooth sidgs from the seat to the floor. The one installed showed the curvie pipes on the side. That was replaced.

The electrician adjusted the electrical outlets/switches leaving holes in the wall. [redacted] painted the walls but not the ceiling without patching the holes. Before he starting painting he called me at work and kept saying that the walls were to be pink. I tried to tell him I had picked out a Peachy Beige. To get off the phone I told him to get the pink and if I didn't like it he would have to get the other paint and repaint the bathroom.

When I got home that afternoon I didn't like the pink. I called Mr. Mitchell and told to get him we had to get together and get everyone on the same page, He came to by house the next day and agreed the pink paint had to go. I again picked out the Navie Peach paint. [redacted] patched and repainted the walls and ceiling. OK I though everyone was together and this would soon be finished. Wrong again. Mr. Mitchell took it upon himself to pick out a vanity light and had it installed without my approval. When I got home that evening I told [redacted] that ugly light was going. I didn't pick it out and was not going to have it in my house. Remember Mr. Mitchell took a picture of the light I picked out from the lights he showed me were for a bathroom. After [redacted] had talked to Mr. Mitchell, he told me per Mr. Mitchell I was to pick out the light I wanted and Mr. Mitchell would reimburse me. I went back to [redacted] and picked out the light Mr. Mitchell showed me as a vanity light. When [redacted] saw it he said it was a decorative light for the ceiling and not wall or vanity light. So back to [redacted], I ask a [redacted] employee to show me the vanity lights. They were nowhere near the lights Mr. Mitchell showed me. So I picked out the light I wanted.

On June 8, 2015 [redacted] calls me at work to tell me the light will not fit. He could not get the globe at the wall shelf to go on. The light was to long for the area he had to work with. I ask him if the light could be moved enough to work. He again had to call Mr. Mitchell, [redacted] called back per Mr. Mitchell I would have to pay over $300.00 for the

electrician to move the light and almost $200.00 for him to patch and paint the wall.

This was Mr. Mitchell's error for not having the first light approved before he had it installed.

This is not my fault and I should not have to pay for Mr. Mitchell's mistakes. All he needed to do was to have called me and told me he made a mistake when he showed me the lights I

had to pick from. I would have gone then and picked another light. The electrician after installed the correct light he left a place the size 2 and 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch to be painted.

[redacted] installed the towel and toilet paper racks. The towel rack was so low that it covered the toilet paper. I left towel on the towel rack so [redacted] could see the problem.

This has to be replaced and the wall repainted. My bathroom walls ended up being painted 4 times.

June 11, 2015, [redacted] came to my house to repair the hole that was to have been left by the electrician. After I showed him the smallarea to be painted he said he would have

time to install the mirror. I though good this is coming to an end. On my way out the door to go to work, the last thing I said to [redacted] "The mirror has to come from Roanoke Mirror, [redacted] don't have the size I need." I told Mr. Mitchell I wanted a mirror 36X30. [redacted] installed 30X24. Mr. Mitchell told me on April 10, 2015 my mirror had to be a special order and [redacted] was the only place he could get it. I told [redacted] I wanted the mirror to go from the sink to the light as the 36 inches. There is 40 inches between them with the 30 inches across the vanity. [redacted] told me he had to finish a deck, June 11,2015, because the customer was having a deck party on June 13, 2015. I ask him to call me if he could not get back on June 12, 2015. He said no problem he would have time to finish the deck and replace my mirror.

I have not seen or heard from anyone at Mitchell Building since June 11, 2015. I have unfinished bathroom, the mirror and the frosted window covering on my stain glass window need

to be replace.

Mr. Mitchell has treated as a senile, stupid woman. I know I am over 65 years old but I am not stupid or senile. I know what I paid for and though Mr. Mitchell was a gentleman and

would fulfill his contract. My time is very valuable, I work 3 part time jobs with my days starting a 5:30 am and ending at 10:30 pm. I have no time for this treatment from Mr. Mitchell.

Due to the fact Mr. Mitchell, per his contact, has not completed the remodeling job in 2 to 4 weeks and by his calculation it is twice the time. He started May 7, 2015 and today June

20, 2015 that is well over 4 weeks. I feel that Mr. Mitchell should cancel the final payment on the contact of $2,011.00, reimburse the $126.25 and pay the electrician for his mistake. I also want the work complete as agreed and a receipt stating the contact is paid in full.

During the remodeling of my bathroom Mr. Mitchell had pulled his employees 3 times to work on another job. If he didn't have the time or manpower to complete my bathroom per the contact he should have told me so I could have gotten another contractor. Needless to say I will not recommend Mr. Mitchell to anyone.Desired Settlement: I feel that Mr. Mitchell should cancel the final payment on the contact of $2,011.00, reimburse the $126.25 and pay the electrician for his mistake. I also want the work complete as agreed and a receipt stating the contact is paid in full.

To whom it may concern, I received this email with the complaint form [redacted] and or her sister [redacted]. I could comment on each and every statement that was made but I feel it would all just be he said she said so I would rather not take that route. When I received this complaint I immediately called Ms. [redacted] and asked her why she would file a complaint with the Revdex.com. I had called her two days prior to this complaint made to meet with her and she said she tried calling me back. I had no missed call nor message but you know how cell phones are these days and I do not believe that either of us would have a reason to lie. As for the matter at hand, I spoke with Ms. [redacted] the day of the filed complaint and went and met with her and her sister. We talked about the mis understanding of the glass replacement (which evidently was a miscommunication/mis understanding because what she wants will not pass building code) and offered her a solution. I explained that we had never discussed any glass replacement but what I would do to make her happy would be order, pay for and install new obscure glass IG units for her existing bathroom window and write her a warranty on her existing window in case the new glass failed we would warranty it as long as she lived there. She said that she would be very happy with that and wrote our company a check that day for the remaining balance and thanked me. I told her that she could continue with the BB complaint or drop it that that was up to her but I have our contractual agreement that lists everything we are supposed to do in case of situations like this occur. Our entire time in business, this is the first time its happened and like I told her I am sorry for any misunderstanding but am making it right.Best Regards, Corey Mitchell

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Answering the reply from Corey Mitchell. I don't understand the construction jargon. So I don't know what he is saying about obscure glass IG units. I know I paid for frosted glass or poly glass for my bathroom window. The final payment was demanded by Mr. Mitchell it was not paid willing. I just want the frosted window in my bathroom as promised by Mr. Mitchell. He told me on June 25, 2015, that he had ordered the poly glass and it usually took 3 days to receive. I called Mr. Mitchell July 7, 2015 and he said he had not heard from [redacted] that the glass was received. I told him it seem to me that it was taking a long time to deliver. This delay has caused me to remember the special order on my mirror (30X36) I was told that it had to be a special order and it came in chipped. [redacted] left my house and got a new mirror the same size and back to house in 30 minutes.Regards,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and consider this complaint resolved.Corey Mitchell, owner Mitchell Building Company, has finally finished my bathroom on July 21, 2015. Since he likes to refer to the contact I am going to refer to it for completion time of the job. His contract stated 2 - 4 weeks in reality it took 11 weeks. He has told me the reason for the delay was "I kept changing my mind on what I wanted." At the time of the estimate I told Corey Mitchell the material I was going to have in my remodel bathroom. He sent items I never saw and/or approved so I refused them. If he sent the approved items the first time he wouldn't have to redo the job several times. I guess it was my fault that his employees left my house on May 21, 2015 till May 25, 2015 again June 11, 2015 till June 25, 2015 then returned July 21, 2015 to finish the job. Before I signed the contact his company used and/or put in the items I wanted all the time. NO problem. After I signed the contact he kept saying "I (the customer) misunderstood or he didn't remember saying that". He said that so often that it began to sound like the little boy crying wolf. When Corey Mitchell ask a question about the job or reply to Revdex.com, he would talk over me before I could complete the answer. He has to tell me how hard he has tried to make me happy and get the job finished. My opinion, it would help him to shut up and listen to the whole answer instead signing his praise. He left me feeling that he has no regard for the inconvenience to the customer. My house has been in disarray from April 29, 2015 (when he said he would start on April 30, 2015) until June 26, 2015. The start time was the first time I misunderstood him. For me when a job is to take 2 - 4 weeks and takes 11 weeks is totally unexceptional and his work ethic is the same. When I called the business number ( [redacted] to ask about when the window would be finished a man answered as [redacted] was very rude. On July 22, 2015, I called the business number again and it rang several times then went dead no one answered or no voice mail. I called to see when or IF Corey Mitchell was going to mail me the written life warranty for the window and the $126.25 check to reimburse for the vanity light. In short, there is NO WAY I would every recommend Corey Mitchell or Mitchell Building Company to anyone.Regards,
