Mixter, Ken Painting & Contracting Reviews (1)

Review: My family (88 year old mother and 62 year old sister) started working with [redacted] on a home improvement project on April 7, 2014 (scope of work was painting/flooring and a kitchen remodel). They were originally told the project would take 3 weeks and we are going on 6 weeks - and $25,000 has been paid to him (half the cabinets are not installed, cost did not include counters or appliances for a small kitchen). The original project was quoted at $41,000. I recently moved in with my family(divorced with two small boys) - and started to question the workmanship and cost, sent him an e-mail on 4/9/2014 that all issues were to be addressed to me/was taking advantage of them (after he was trying to get an additional $450 for patching walls - did the work THEN told them about it). I informed him all change orders must have a price and be approved by me - the first of many issues. Quickly into the job his cost were not adding up and ask for a meeting to review where we stood - asked for a break out to understand cost (could not provide the details I wanted). Long Long story short - the cabinets were to be "high end upgrade Wolf" cabinets and they are not. The kitchen floor installed was to match the exisitng living room/dinning room floor (had stained/sanded) - does not match (white wood/vs. red wood installed), is croocked, was told there would be no thershold and there is. At that point I put a hold on the job - he came in my home and took the cabinets (police involved), he returned them and we came to an agreement he would finish the job for $3,000 and I would GC the job from there (on 4/24/14 agreement in writing). Two weeks later I still have the wrong size and missing cabinets (trying to install a 24 inch sink base/not centered under my window - had to reorder it) and now he wants another $1,500 to finish installing the cabinets - I have trim/molding/base boards/painting that still needs completed. I contacted Chief Wanto who stated I should contact you - we can not work with [redacted].Desired Settlement: Refund for cabinets (will return all and start over - paid $9,691), or pay for missing/wrong size cabinets/skin/missing molding/trim for another vendor to be able to install correctly. Replace hard wood floor in kitchen (paid $4,800)/finish base boards $300. Paid him $500 for new door hinges in kitchen - all doors stick need sanded/and rehung. Need to finish patching/painting kitchen and hall $500.
