I advertised on [redacted] in September/to have a pitched/peaked roof installed on my flat roof mobile home My ad was answered by [redacted] and he came and looked at the job and said he most likely could do the job for $which I accepted [redacted] came a couple of times after and took some measurements After several phone conversations and text messages [redacted] said he required $to obtain the permits and drawings for this project I e-transferred him the $on Sept 19/ Then the run-a-around started first a friend was doing the drawings, and then he was having [redacted] do the drawings, then he said he was working on a project for an client who would be doing the drawingsAlso at this time he informed me that the project would most like be around $ In the meantime I keeping in contact with him on the status of these drawings He kept telling everything was on track for next week which was **Apr12/ I sent him a text o

Matt ***gave me a quote for $to replace a year old amp service panel with a new amp panelHe did this, I paid him in full, and it worksIf that were the end of the story I would not be writing this negative review
Matt said he would get an MSR (Meter Service Request) from SCE and a permit from Santa Barbara County PlanningHe texted me a photo of his personal check for $to SB County Planning on Oct 13, 2016, saying he had just gotten the permit and needed reimbursement I wrote him a check for $that afternoon and he cashed it that afternoonIt has been difficult to get him to answer calls or texts since that day to find out what needed to happen to finish up with SCE and the county On November 16, I visited SCE in person and found out they had no record of an MSR or anything on file for my addressThey called County Planning and were told there was also no permit County Planning called me later that day to verify that they had no record of a permit for my addressI texted Matt (he usually communicated via text) letting him know his deception was now known and I gave him hours to return my $or actually get the permit I have had no responseMy next action will be small claims court
It should be clear from this review, that he installed a new panel and did some associated wiring per our agreement, it all works as promised, and he was paid in full for that workBut the deceptive practices regarding proper permitting and inspection means I absolutely CANNOT recommend him

[redacted] is irresponsible and not trustworthy: caveat emptor.

And *never* give him money for parts ahead of the job: buy them yourself or have someone else who is knowledgable buy them.

In my large job, which was installing 23 LED retrofits, 4 closet lights and 2 external outlets, and the dimmers for all, which he did not complete, and took place in late 2013, he

a. asked for pre-payment of parts, with checks made out to him or his brother personally

b. has not returned over $500 of overpayment for those parts, as he documented, or the actual receipts for those parts, as he said he would

c. has not completed the work and did not repair the damaged the dry wall around several soffits, and suggested I hire a drywall guy to repair them (which I did)

d. did not repaint the areas around the drywall, as he said he would

e. charged a very high rate for said supplies, which he said was his cost (I have not verified, but find the same simple closet light on Amazon for 30% less than he charged)

f. only provided an invoice for the apparently purchased parts several weeks after they were purchased and after the invoice was requested, and did not provide the receipts, as he said he would

g. did not come to the job, or call to cancel, or email to cancel at least 8 times over 5 weeks, and did call or email to cancel or reschedule at least 5 more times over the same period.

h. falsely advertises on his Dodge truck and on his website ([redacted]) that he is Revdex.com A+ rated (he is actually rated a D, as of January 2014)

i. repeatedly promises to do nearly everything above--complete the work, return the money,come to the job, provide docs--but does not.

j. refuses to identify what is causing the problem, which at least one co-worker says is atypical; he then identifies many different causes sequentially. His car breaks, he is ill, he is fighting with a relative, he is having dinner, he is busy on another job, he can't get my money back.

h. conducts himself in a risky way: he jumped on the bed to install a can, damaging a sculpture on another part of the bed; smokes in the driveway, though he is careful to put out the butt; does not clean up drywall dust from floors or appliances.

I would not hire [redacted] again, nor should anyone else.

Review: I contacted MJ Electric to repair an outlet that my garbage disposal plugs into. It worked intermittently. The garbage disposal works when plugged into a different outlet, but I need it to be plugged into the one that is activated by a light switch.MJ came within a few days, "fixed" the outlet, we paid $79. The next morning it did not work again. My husband called twice, he did not return our calls. I called him from a different number and spoke with Matt Johnson. He said his phone had broken, and must have missed the messages, but that he would call me back in 2 days to arrange an appt to do the repair. He never called. I left another message, the fourth contact, no answer. My final message requested a call back in 36 hours with a plan to either fix the problem or refund my money. That was 3 days ago. I indicated on my final message that if he did not call back, I would contact Revdex.com. He states on his website that he is an A+ rated business with Revdex.com. Please help me resolve this issue. I no longer care to work with MJ electric, but I would like my money back.Thank you.Kellie DeLozierDesired Settlement: Please refund $79 for failure to make adequate repairs.
