Revdex.com:
We really wanted to have our system to be operating at the highest level. Working with MJ Emonds was the easy and simple way a home owner would go for service/upgrade. Since they are the company that installed the unit and have serviced it for 15+ years.  it is true that the igniter was faulty, to which, I diagnosed and wanted to have replaced. MJ charges a big premium for the first part of labor so I figured we could have a thermostat replaced with the "Lyric thermostat" in order to hit the lower labor charge after the igniter was replaced. Unfortunately, the trouble then began. After my family was without heat (47 degrees in house) the first night because MJ would come to fix igniter, but each trip has a premium so we had to wait in order for all devices to be done at same time. The original bill was paid in full for the igniter and lyric thermostat. I was happy and so was MJ.  One problem, when we turned on the heat the system didn't work (day 3 of 45 degrees). we called MJ to let them know it's not working and after arguing, [redacted] installed a 38 dollar thermostat ([redacted]) and charged us $180 on top of what we already paid. Obviously at this point we couldn't fight, we were just cold.  After  2 nights of no heat we started to give in. I was told by [redacted] the service manager, that the lyric is not going to work and that I KNEW that and....to fix my system I should find someone else!! It was my fault and I deliberately set them up to fail and go FIND SOMEONE ELSE !!!     CLICK??  HUNG UP ON ME IN MY EAR.  Then this complaint hit the system so credit to MJ, [redacted] came back out and deemed the system working.
WELL ITS NOT!!  The zones still don't work, the 38 dollar [redacted] thermostat is junk compared to the touch screen that was already there and the hole in the wall from the failed installed is still there.
Bottom line to replace an igniter and install a thermostat is easy. For MJ to say it's 4 hours of labor and 175 in materials is absolutely taking advantage. I have now contacted another company who has quoted the job as 1 hr labor.
Replace igniter and replace thermostat. No way 4 hrs labor.  [redacted] the owner called my voicemail to talk about things. I'm pretty passive and not looking for another shouting match(like with the service manager). MJ made it quite clear.  If they spend time on something they must be paid! They will never admit they didn't know how something works, but they must be paid. It is never considered that we had to take persinal days and vacation days to be here on four separate occasions for a 1-2 hour job.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Review: I hired MJ Edmonds to fix a bad igniter and replace a thermostat with a [redacted] lyric thermostat. I was told I need to wait one day for them to order the parts, but they can complete the fix/install the next day. My family was willing to bundle up because mj Edmonds would not "warranty" the installation unless we bought the lyric through them. We learned the heat did not work after the tech gave us the bill which states everything is working and took our check for payment. We trusted that the heat was on, we were wrong. After a complaint that the heat is still not turning on I was told for $300 more they can fix it with some used parts. The sales manager told me they can't refund the price of the lyric ($250) because it's not their fault they can't get it to work on our system. Mj has been the contractor working on Our system for 10 years++. I was then told they can get the heat back on for another $135 but without the $250 lyric thermostat.Desired Settlement: Have system working as quoted, billed and collected.
