MN Plumbing & Home Services Reviews (%countItem)

I purchased a new dishwasher through Best Buy that came with FREE INSTALLATION. Best Buy contracts with a third party company called MN Plumbing and Home Services. Best Buy indicated that a permit was not required for the installation of a new dishwasher.

The plumbers arrived and immediately informed me that per CODE I would need a new Shut off valve and Air Hammer Arrestor. If I did not agree they would not complete the installation. As this property is a registered rental property with the city of Savage I did not have time to verify their claims of the CODE requirements and allowed them to proceed with the install. They cut the water line, installed the arrestor and a new shut off valve. It is important to note that an existing and functioning shut off valve was already in place.

Upon further research and discussion with your department (Phillip) at the city of Savage and with the MN Dept. of Labor and Industry (Zachary) the code requirement for an Air Hammer Arrestor should apply to a new installation and would not apply to the replacement of an existing dishwasher. Furthermore, additional details on the MN Dept. of Labor and Industry website in the case of the new Air Gap Fitting requirement it specifically states that:

Replacements of domestic dishwashers where there are no alterations, no changes to the existing plumbing system, and no modification to the design, and where the system was installed to code at the time it was installed, would not require the additional airgap fitting for this work.

It is reasonable to consider this as repair and replacement work without altering the design of the existing plumbing system. The reconnection of the discharge drain line must be fastened as high as possible under the countertop, and using existing rough-ins of the existing plumbing system.

Remodeling of the kitchen including sink replacements, altering the water and/or drainage piping are subject to the requirements of the current code.

When I asked Zachary if this exception "..no alterations, no changes to the existing plumbing system, and no modification to the design, and where the system was installed to code at the time it was installed, would not require.." would also apply to the new air hammer arrestor he agreed and the code requirement is specific to a new installation.

I have contacted MN Plumbing and Home Services and requested a refund as I believe they fraudulently lead me to believe I was required by the 2015 MN Plumbing Code to install a new shut off valve and air arrestor. Their response (Michelle) was to quote the code book and will only refund my $250 only if the City of Savage states the air hammer is not required.

Confirmation was received from the City of Savage and MN Plumbing and Appliance refunded my $250.00. This company needs to stop misleading consumer into paying for unnecessary work.

Great job done in replacing and installing our gas water heater; very impressed with installer and his knowledge of code requirements and options available. Jesse V. / So St Paul

This is one of the worst and uncaring companies I have ever dealt with. They insisted they only worked Monday to Friday and have me a take-it-or-nothing appointment for 1-4 pm on a Monday forcing me to miss work to accommodate them. Well, they neither called me to cancel nor showed up. When I called the lady I spoke carelessly offered to reschedule not minding what missing work already had cost me, no matter how much I tried to explain. And their reason for not showing up? A technician was ill. Oh no, it was the weather five minutes later

On 10/28/2019 I purchased a new dishwasher from the local Best Buy store and with that purchase paid $160 to have the unit installed. When the installation crew, Minnesota Plumbing and Appliance, installed the unit the said that they would have to install a new valve costing $150 because it was now part of city code. The also said they would need to install a $100 air hammer, which was required with this dishwasher. Consequently we ended up paying $410 to install the dishwasher.
Upon checking with the City of Prior Lake building department they state that there is no code with respect the valve and the it would not need to be installed. In addition, upon reviewing the installation instructions for this dishwasher, there in no mention of a need for an air hammer.
I believe I was overcharged $250. I have emailed Minnesota Plumbing and written a letter expressing my dissatisfaction with no response.

Attached are the MN Plumbing State Code Book items showing we need to make sure they are brought up to code.

That is why the customer was charged for those items

Customer Response • Dec 02, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:
If you look at this companies reviews you will find this is the same excuse they give every time. Issue 1 is that the valve that they replaced for $150 did not need to be replaced. Issue 2 is that the appliance that they installed did not require an air hammer valve. What do these companies do is they go to big companies like Best Buy and give them very cheap prices for installing their appliances which is attractive to Best Buy. Once they get to the customers homes they up charge them for things like valves they don't need and that's how they make their money. Just check the reviews and you will find that this is what they do repeatedly. I will pursue them in small claims court.

The company sold us Air Hammers for ($150) to install a washer and told us that it was required due to city code. I spoke to the City Plumbing Inspector and was told it wasn’t required nor was it city code. The company refused to refund the $150.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Sep 12, 2019

I am sorry you feel this way, the air hammer is a state required item and there for we had to purchase and install one. We also do the install warranty for 1 year that is what the cost is

Did an okay job installing a dishwasher. But cost over $600 for a 45 minute job! They told me this was reasonable.
Trying to reach them on the phone or via email, forget it. Never returned a call, never responded to an email. When you call, the call is dropped without being answered, no voicemail. If you do get someone on the phone they are unprofessional or rude.
I had a terrible experience and would never recommend them to anyone.

very professional, informative, excellent work installing dishwasher and gas range.

On time, very thorough in the installation of the stove and vent hood, cleaned up after themselves. Would use them again.

To whom it may concern:

We purchased two dishwashers and installation through Best Buy. The installation of service was handled by MN Plumbing & Appliance. On the day of installation, November 27th, we were charged $177.00 by MN Plumbing and Appliance for two permit fees required by the city.

Shortly after the installation, I spoke with the City of Minneapolis Building and Permits. The representative stated that because we were NOT touching the water lines; simply installing new appliances, we would not need permits for the water lines.

I reached out to MN Plumbing and Appliance and explained the situation. The representative stated that we would be issued a refund and then recanted; stating that the permits were mandatory.

I called the city again. The city of Minneapolis stated that because we are in a business suite, we would require a permit fee. however, because the installation was occurring for the same company, at the same address, only one permit was required for a purchase price of $83.50. I was also advised that no such permit was ever purchased through the city, though the work had been completed.

I reached out to MN Plumbing and Appliance. I requested that they purchase the permit for which they charged us and refund us the additional charge which was not required. Again, the company denied to do anything.

It has been more than two months since the date of installation. The company has yet to pull any permits for the services completed and charged for and we have yet to be refunded for the additional charges.

We are filing a complaint for the unethical business practices carried out by MN Plumbing and Appliance, Inc.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Feb 06, 2019

We were at the business and let the customer know since it is a commercial property it is required for permits. She did not disclose that to the city when she called in about needing a permit. Once we called the city offices and let them know the address and suite number they said yes it is required as they are considered a commercial residence.

Customer Response • Feb 06, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:

The argument is not whether a permit was required for installation. We both agree that a permit was. The argument here is that MN Plumbing and Appliance charged us for two permits when only one was required and they never pulled the permits for which they billed us. You cannot bill for services not received.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Mar 19, 2019

We looked into this with the city and one permit is needed for this as we were told per unit. We have issued a refund for the cost of one permit to the customer.

Thank you

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 13368459, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

On 6/19/2018 Best buy sent out sub-contractors from MN Plumbing and Appliance Inc. to install kitchen appliances that I had purchased through Best Buy. This is a new construction house that had never been lived in/appliances installed in. The inst*** damaged the cabinet box that surrounds the refrigerator as well as the flooring underneath it and some of the walls in the entry area. I contacted Best Buy immediately and was referred to MN Plumbing and Appliance. They stated they did not want to run this claim through their insurance company and wanted to complete the repairs themselves. I told them that I did not find that acceptable as this is a new construction home with custom built and finished cabinets. I requested that the builders of the cabinets complete the repairs and provided all parties with an estimate as well as photos of all damages. MN Plumbing and appliance owner insisted I get 3 estimates from 3 different contractors for each trade to be completed. I explained to them that this is not industry standard nor am I required to do that. I insisted on a professional adjuster to handle the claim and write a formal estimate. This was done this past Friday. Yesterday I was contacted by the owner of MN Plumbing and Appliance owner via email with him offering a $700 cash settlement. They are now denying liability for the damages to the flooring but do admit that they damaged the cabinet that sits on top of said flooring. I just want what was agreed upon to be held up. Sedgwick told me that the insurance adjusters findings and estimate would be the final payout amount, however they will not show me the estimate now that MN Plumbing and Appliance does not want to pay for the damages done to the flooring.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Aug 23, 2018

Good Morning,

We have dealt with this customer and the damages - We are paying for his contractors to fix the damages to their walls and flooring. We just received the signed agreement from the customer and XPO will be issuing him payment.

Thank you,

Michelle

I ordered a dishwasher online from Best Buy in June. Best Buy assigned the installation of the dishwasher to Minnesota Plumbing and Appliance. MN P & A arrived at the residence to install the dishwasher. They looked under the kitchen sink and stated that the sink and dishwasher were not vented, and went on to state that the entire house was without any plumbing vents. They stated I needed an Island Vent Kit and would need to have that installed for an additional $600.00 over and above the "free" installation I was to receive from Best Buy. I stated I needed to check into this added expense. I asked them to remove the existing dishwasher since I had paid for removal of the item. The gentleman stated if he so much as touched the appliance he would lose his plumbing license since the sink was not vented. I asked if I could unhook the dishwasher and have him take the dishwasher. He refused, again stating he would lose his license and he was not going to do that. I would need to have the sink vented PRIOR to him removing the old, non-working appliance. He left the new appliance in the garage. I called the Plumber, Mitch, who had renovated the house approx. 5 years prior. Mitch stated the entire house was vented and the plumber who glanced under the kitchen sink would not see the vent as the junction and the vent (along with the rest of the plumbing) were behind the wall). I have pictures of all the vents on the house and they are located right were Mitch stated they were. All sinks drain quickly and without gurgling, we have no drainage issues that would be present if the entire house was void of venting. There was no valid reason that the dishwasher was not installed at the installation appointment and no reason for the quote of an additional charge of $600.00 to vent a sink/dishwasher that was already vented per code and passed code and the building inspection 5 years ago. The sink is not on an island and is against a wall with no windows.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Aug 06, 2018

Good Morning,

We are reaching out to the customer today and I asked her to send me all remodel information from when the kitchen was permitted and inspected.

Thank you,

Michelle

Customer Response • Aug 06, 2018

I am REJECTING because: MN P&A did call to advise that in order for them to reschedule the install of the dishwasher I needed to "prove" that it was vented. The man that MN P&A sent out on 7/25 briefly looked under the sink and claimed that the entire house was NOT vented. In order for him to install the dishwasher we needed to pay $600 to install an island vent to the dishwasher. (I called the MN Depart of Labor who verified that if he had installed the island vent, it would have been a code violation since the sink/dishwasher was NOT on a center island, HOWEVER as you can clearly see from the pics I attached that the house is indeed vented) Just so it is clear, we are talking about the venting and not the new "air gap" that went into effect Jan of 2016. I advised MN P&A that I had verified the home was properly vented from the Master Plumber who renovated the property a few years prior to us purchasing the home. MN P&A stated they needed to see pictures. After reviewing the pictures MN P&A stated they needed to see the building permit with bldg inspector sign off on a permit that was pulled back before we purchased this home. It is just another hoop that MN P&A was requiring us to jump through in order to have the dishwasher we purchased at Best Buy installed. Luckily Best Buy is great to work with and they are helping with them to resolve this issue without having to work with MNPA. I will still continue on with this complaint, not for me, but to help prevent someone who really doesn't understand that the fees they are being charged are unnecessary and potentially dangerous. (island venting on non island)

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • Aug 09, 2018

We called Mcleoud County Planning and Zoning who handles her property address and they do not require permits for plumbing and mechanical so the permit she is speaking about that is closed is the building remodel permit. They could not tell us if they ever inspected an island vent and if that is our policy we would have the customer sign off that if it does get flagged in the future that she will be liable for the $600.00 to bring it to code.

The customer can reschedule her install with Best Buy for their next available day in her area - once that is done she can notify our company of the day. Our office will generate the document and have the installer get her to sign off when we put the dishwasher in.

Thank you,

Office Manager

They were awesome. I bought a dishwasher and a microwave from Best Buy but dishwasher was too big to fit. He went out of his way to get me in touch with a carpenter to fix the counter first and then he came back and installed the dishwasher the same day. He even set the time on the microwave :) Unbelievable service: he really went out of his way to help us. Would definitely use them for any plumbing/electrical work in the future.

I purchased my appliances through Best Buy, who hired MN Plumbing and Appliance to install my appliances. Upon arriving with the dishwasher and range oven, MN Plumbing and Appliance instructed me that I would need a new gas line and corrected water line. They did not have the proper tools for this so I had to reschedule my appointment. Upon my 2nd appointment after taking off work, they were over 2 hours late and outside of their promised window.
Upon the 3rd appointment, the hood was installed and a few minor scratches were made to our cabinets.
Upon the 4th appointment and fridge and waterline install, MN Plumbing and Appliance technicians completely damaged our wall while hauling out the old fridge. There were 2 other larger doors they could have gone through but instead decided to force the fridge through the entry way and took off pieces of our wall, including paint, drywall, and corner protectors. Upon installing the waterline, a ceiling tile was also broken. Technicians took pictures and documented the wall but did not mention the damage to ceiling and left without acknowledging what they did to ceiling Took 4 days of non-stop calling and emailing for them to finally answer my email and agree to have a carpenter to come and inspect the damages to wall and ceiling. I am now waiting for them to call me back and tell me if they will pay for damages or credit me money back.

MN Plumbing & Home Services Response • May 21, 2018

Good Morning

The tech's that did the install had marked her wall and our company paid our own carpenter to go to the property and fix everything to the customer standards. The work was completed last week and I personally confirmed this with our carpenter.

Unbelievably disgusted....with Best Buy and MN Plumbing & Appliance! BUYER BEWARE!!
I bought a dishwasher and microwave from Best Buy to be delivered/installed by MN Plumbing & Appliance on Friday 9/30. Although each item could have been delivered/installed separately, to make things more convenient (for the installers), we waited a longer time so both items could be delivered/installed at the same time.
Well on 9/30, no one showed up (install guy stated he was here but I work from home 100% and have never had any issues with deliveries. I also have a dog that barks at everything and I was making coffee at the time the driver stated he was here).
It unfortunately took me calling Best Buy several times each day for a full week and them making calls while waiting on the installer to return the items to the warehouse so a second appointment could be scheduled. I was firm in telling Best Buy if the install for both items was not rescheduled for this week I was just cancelling my full order. Finally a time was booked for today (12-4 window) and I was reassured we were good to go.
The MN Plumbing & Appliance installer calls today around 3:30 to say he would be here around 3:50. At 4:09 the installers finally show up and come in and start unscrewing the dishwasher face to look at the electrical setup. Without finishing the dishwasher they next take out the microwave. After the microwave is out the installer then looks at the plumbing setup (opens door under sink) and states there is an issue with the dishwasher regarding the plumbing. Says he needs some clamps as he needs to convert from 1/2 to 3/4 (something like that).
I indicated Best Buy had me purchase all that was needed. I indicated this information should have been provided to us in advance as I am not an installer and with no forewarning, would not know if we needed anything different. I understand the plumbing setup may be different from one home to the next but if the dishwasher needed “x” setup, that should have been told to me so we could have checked our plumbing setup in advance and purchased whatever added materials were needed so to be ready when the installers came. He said Best Buy should have let me know.
I asked if he had the clamps with him in which his response was if I brought everything with me I would need a semi. I asked why he didn't look at the plumbing first before unhooking and unscrewing everything as he would have seen that right away.
Having already dealt with a no show and now waiting another week for this second appointment (and waiting until after 4:00 for them to arrive), when the installer stated we would need to reschedule yet another appointment, I told him I would not be rescheduling. I asked if he could call Best Buy so they could get the needed clamps ready and if they started on the install of the microwave I would go pick them up. He states no, we will need to reschedule.
At this point I am irritated and ask that they put everything back as it was. I had already indicated numerous times to Best Buy if the install of both items couldn't be done this week I was just going to cancel my order.
So this is where it really gets good...as I am on a call waiting for Best Buy to answer, I look over and the installer is ready to leave. I look over and my microwave is still not back on my wall. I say "hold up, you need to put my microwave back". He says "I can't...as I broke the bolts taking it out. I can either leave your microwave or take it with me". I said "then you need to put in my new one" and he says "no, you will need to reschedule...I am out of here".
Then he leaves..yep...takes my microwave he broke the bracket, doesn't install or leave my new microwave. Just leaves my house with a hole in in my kitchen wall!!
MN Plumbing & Appliance, not sure what criteria you have for your reps to follow in being professional, but I doubt it indicates it is okay to leave a customer’s house with a big gap in the wall. You were here to represent Best Buy and you made your company and Best Buy look terrible.
As for Best Buy...is it you general practice to not tell customers at the time of purchase what they need for the setup of your merchandise? Did you think I, or anyone, would be happy to be held hostage in their home for a 4-hour window to have installers come out just to say they can’t install and another appointment (perhaps weeks out) will need to be scheduled?
Having called the store I placed my order at, they indicated there is not much (they) can do except follow standard process to...
1) open a ticket with the escalation team that was unresponsive earlier this week,
2) open a destruction ticket that will require insurance to come out (since the installers broke the bracket to my microwave while taking it out), or
3) reschedule to have MN Plumbing & Appliance come back out to install the items
Seriously???? Not once has anyone said I am so sorry you have been given such terrible service and we broke your stuff and left you helpless and here is how we are immediately going to fix things.
Instead you contract with a third party company that doesn’t show up or comes late, destroys items and leaves customer’s kitchen’s in disarray and then simply put me in a queue to be contacted in, who knows what timeframe, like this is no big deal.
Seriously, shame on you Best Buy!!
I blame you as you took my order and indicated you would service my needs in a professional manner. That has not been done and the true lack of accountability and action to quickly remedy is appalling!
Unbelievable, unprofessional and unfortunate. I will never purchase anything from Best Buy again and to anyone ever needing plumbing service...I would cross MN Plumbing & Appliance from your list of credible companies to work with.

Showed up on time, did a good job of installing the dishwasher and didn't leave a mess or break anything! Good job.

Excellent services, knowledgeable, respectful . . . outstanding job.

Great service! Went above and beyond to make sure our dishwasher install went great! Would recommend!

HOME DEPOT subbed a faucet/sink install x2 for my bathrooms to this company also operating as CREW 2 and PROFLOORS. The valves were damaged in both installs such that one leaked and ruined the vanity and the other did not inlet hot water appropriately. Had to pay for an outside company to fix both faucet installs. They advertise themselves as licensed to operate in Minneapolis but when I checked (Fall 2017) they were not. DO NOT USE.

This company is horrible to deal with! I purchased a dishwasher through Best Buy and scheduled my delivery/install for a Friday from 8-12:00. I received a call that day, at 12:30 that their driver called in sick in the morning (after I waited 4 1/2 hours at home!).
Best Buy scheduled a pick-up of old appliance for the next day from 12-4:00. Received a call at 3:54 that it would be picked up at 4:30 (which it was but outside of the 4 hour window so another 4 hours wasted, waiting).
My install was rescheduled to the following Friday from 12-4 as that was the first opening available. Received a call on Thursday from Michelle at MN Plumbing saying that they were moving the time to 8-12 since they didn't have anyone from 12-4. I told her that was not an option as I was out of town and could not get back that early. She argued with me about whether I could be home before noon and then blamed Best Buy for scheduling all of their installs from 12-4 and it doesn't work for them. I again said that I would be there from 12-4 as originally agreed upon but not in the 10-11 range like she was pushing. I also reminded her that this is the 2nd reschedule because the first time no one showed up. She ended the call with, "If he shows up at 12:01 and you're not there, we will not install."
Not surprisingly, we received a call on Friday at 11:45 that the driver didn't have our dishwasher and we would have to reschedule. Called Best Buy and they were shocked that this was happening but our only choice was to reschedule for a 3rd time. We tried to cancel our order with Best Buy but MN Plumbing had it in a "Completed" status, even though they couldn't even locate our appliance, so we couldn't cancel it that day. I then had to call Best Buy back the next day, once MN Plumbing and Appliance corrected the status.
This company is horrible to work with! I can't even comment on their actual work because we never got that far! Based on other complaints, they don't seem to care about Best Buy contracts.

Knowledgeable, honest, efficient, and clean. Highly recommend.
