Review: (I am writing on behalf of my parents who are elderly and displaced)

In October 2012, when Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore, my parent’s home was severely damaged. They called the local Service Master to do the demo work on the house and ended up dealing with the business at [redacted]. Due to the high volume of need, Service Master subcontracted with [redacted] for workers.

In the course of the work, these unidentified men looted from my parent’s home. Items taken included money from the upstairs where no one should even have been going to since that was not damaged, tools from the garage, food from the pantry, and my Father’s prescription medication. Liquor was also consumed and the empty bottles left in the back yard by the chairs they had set up to enjoy this liquor. These men also used the upstairs bathroom knowing full well that there was no water or sewer in operation and that Service Master had not provided a Porta Potty. I asked several times for the names of the men so we could file a police report but no one could tell me this information. I was later provided with a list of men who worked “in the area” which didn't help at all.

In addition, the workmanship was atrocious. Sheetrock was not cut clean, some was ripped and some still had paneling left on it. All the nails were left sticking up from the floor which resulted in my 83 year old mother tripping and injuring her face from these nails. Debris and garbage was left all over the house.

We were charged for work not completed, charged for after hours work when no one actually there (it was winter and there were no power), and charged for an “emergency call” when it wasn’t an emergency. My Father had to hire someone else to do the work Service master was suppose to do.

For almost three months, I have attempted to work with [redacted] at Service Master to resolve this mess. I eventually had to call Service Master Corporate Office to complain and was referred to [redacted] who is a Business Development Manager and was suppose to help mediate a solution. [redacted] eventually agreed to modify the bill to reflect the actual work performed and agreed that she would pay my father $2500.

As of today we are at a standstill. [redacted] agrees to the $2500 but wants to submit her bill to Flood Insurance and once my father receives payment, for him to hold back the $2500. My father is NOT in agreement with this plan as it would then appear he has not paid the entire bill. He wants a check from Service master for the $2500 and when he receives the reimbursement for her bill, will pay Service Master. He has even written a promissory note to send to [redacted] and I have given my word that he will pay her. As you can imagine, he does not trust this company. On the other hand, [redacted] says she doesn’t trust that my Father would pay her at all and states that her company does not have $2500 to pay out.

Meanwhile, [redacted] says there is nothing more he can do. My parents are stressed enough with the entire displacement ordeal and there is no resolution to this issue. At this point, no bill has been submitted so the longer [redacted] waits to submit it, the longer she goes without payment. I will not talk to her since she has stated she will start legal action to get paid; however, no one is saying they won’t pay her. I don’t understand her rational.

This can all be solved if Service Master sends my father a check for $2500, submits their bill to the Flood insurance and when my Father receives his reimbursement, he will send it to [redacted]Desired Settlement: I am asking that Service Master send my Father a check for what they agreed to give him - $2500.
