Modern Matchmaker Reviews (3)

Review: I signed a contract with The Modern Matchmaker over 1 year ago. It was quite expensive.$2500 for 12 months. I was emailed a few photos within the first 60-90 days. None of which were appealing nor within the age range I requested but I agreed to meet 2. Neither of those first meets generated an interest on my part. In fact, the 2nd one was more than 14 yrs older than me. I truly believe there are very few men in the Matchmaker's pool and if I knew that going in , I would not have signed a contract. I might as well have donated the $. I got nothing out of the experience but false hope and was led to believe there were viable matches. If I had checked the Revdex.com before I signed, the contract, I would have seen several complaints and saved the $. Very dissatisfied with the service. I only hope that someone will read this complaint and not waste their hard earned $ on this "service" or "lack of service".Desired Settlement: Full refund.

Response:

Dear [redacted]

My client [redacted] signed a contract with my service that states that there are no refunds and guarantees that if she did not meet a minimum of 12 matches in one year, her membership would be extended at no charge. I doo not save contracts digitally-but can fax it to you if you give me your fax number.

I have recommended 36 potential matches to [redacted] (have proof if you need me to fax). She accepted 2 matches and requested to meet 6 others , but they declined her request. Please understand that both parties must agrree to meet to make it a "match", which means at least one date occurs.

I do please all of my realistic clients, but cannot help if [redacted] turned a lot of potential matches down based on their looks alone. During this time she also lost her job and I said it was OK to pay me out in payments of $250 per month. Most clients pay in full when they join. Why would she wait until now to complain to the Revdex.com if she was dissatisifed and why did she not give me any indication that she was not happy with the service prior to this? I was quite surprised to get this notification.

[redacted] is still a client in good standing and I do not feel a refund is owedf to her. With her permission, I will do a specialized search on her behalf. Please let me know if I should do this or not. It is typically more expensive-but I will do it complimentary.

Sincerely,

Review: For $2500, I was to be introduced to 12 appropriate, screened gentlemen equal in standing to myself socially whereby we would meet and determine compatibility for a relationship. I signed their contract in November, 2014, and it has yielded 1 luncheon date with an 82-year-old man that took 3 months to arrange. Add the $275 photo shoot charges (they demand professional pictures for your 'profile') and that luncheon cost me $2775. And, no, it wasn't in Paris; it was downtown in Pittsburgh. This man, in the course of lunch, asked me if I was depressed and then told me about his ex-wife who scalded their daughter with boiling water because she was depressed. (No, I'm not depressed now and I wasn't then, but this isn't exactly making me do the happy dance, either). This guy was allegedly screened. Must have been by a similar lunatic or something. At any rate, they refuse to give refunds for this torture and it's a hell of an expensive lesson, I do believe. Beware!!!Desired Settlement: Full refund and an apology. I lost hours of my time in this world which I cannot get back because of this folly.

To Whom It May Concern:I consider [redacted] to be a valued client in the Signature Level and will do my best to address her concerns. I have attached a copy of her non refundable contract that she signed above. The contract does not commit to provide 12 matches within one year as [redacted] stated above. It states "If I do not have a minimum of twelve matches in twelve months, my membership will be extended with no charge to me. I understand and agree that my membership fee is non-refundable. I was surprised to receive this complaint as [redacted] has not called or e-mailed us to let us know that she has been unhappy with the service. In face, quite the contrary. Please refer to the below e-mail [redacted] sent to [redacted], my client Liaison regarding the said gentleman she had her first date with whom she complained spoke about his ex-wife. From: [redacted] [mailto:[redacted]] Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2015 3:48 PMTo: [redacted]Subject: Update Hi, [redacted]. I thought that [redacted]. and I had a fun lunch, but he's not interested in seeing me again, so it's time to start over. I had listed "[redacted]" as a possibility in the original group you presented, so perhaps he might like to meet. Otherwise, I'm happy to take a look at any other recommendations you and [redacted] might have. Thanks, [redacted] I am sorry that [redacted] felt bad about [redacted] not wanting to see her again, but I have not violated my contract in any way to justify a refund. I look forward to matching [redacted] once again.

Response:

My issue remains with the quality of these matches. In other words, what you're told you're purchasing is not what you do, in fact, receive. I want no further dealings with this organization. And, of course, any communications from me (email or otherwise), are and will continue to be gracious and courteous with respect to their other clients. Enough said.

Regards,

To Whom It May Concern:I am sorry that my client is still not satisfied with my response, and only ask that she will let me do my job and match her. I respect her very much and would do my very best to match her with compatible gentlemen. Please note that we do not make a match until both parties agree to meet. Of course, we are not present on client dates nor what couples discuss during their dates. We rely on client feedback after each date. My client [redacted] heard about me after she saw me on the Channel 4 news. They did a feature on my business. [redacted] never told me that she was unhappy in any way-she just filed a complaint with the Revdex.com.[redacted] has only met one gentleman through my service who has done nothing wrong-he just took her out to lunch. John has been a client for a while and his background check was fine. We have had only positive feedback from female clients John has met through my service prior to meeting [redacted]. I do not feel [redacted] has had enough matches to determine the quality of gentlemen of who we match our clients with. I request to have a phone meeting with my client to try to resolve this complaint. We are in a most personal business, I was not aware she was unhappy, and now am trying to respond as best I can via e-mail.Thank you-[redacted]

Review: Dear Revdex.com,

Similar to other complaints registered against Modern Matchmaker, with all good faith, I became a member of the Modern Matchmaker services in Oct. 2013. According to the agreement signed, [redacted]—the Owner--is committing to provide 12 matches within one year. When asked what “matches" meant, she clarified that it meant dates with 12 male candidates.

To date, now 16 months later after multiple emails and telephone calls with [redacted], I have had one (1) date. [redacted] claims that she knows her clients and personally does the matching. Of the candidate profiles sent to me, three were sent to me two separate times and one was sent to me three times.

Of the several matches she sent, I said yes to 6 and was declined by 5 of them. Again, she is supposed to know her candidates.

Although she knew from our first meeting that I've lived outside this country for 17 years and that international experience is very important to me, she asked me again and again to change my criteria on age and international experience and travel. I finally agreed to be flexible on this, however, it has made no difference in her ability to match me with someone.

In mid 2014 due to my frustration with the lack of matches and the same profiles sent again and again, I finally asked [redacted] if she had maxed out her database of eligible men. She said that she thought she had, but to be patient while she looks again. REALLY?! She will deny this conversation and I only wish I had recorded it.

Rather than admitting that she cannot deliver on her contractual agreement, she prefers not to communicate or make empty statements that she's sending my profile to X no. of men and not respond. Three times I was told that my profile was being sent to an int'l lawyer (once in Sept. twice in Oct), and nothing further.

Oct. 20, 2014 was her last reply to an email and there has been no further communication for 4 months. At this point, I feel that her fraudulent claims, lack of communication, and failure to honor her contractual obligations require a full refund of $2500 that was paid. I’ve learned too late that this level of ‘signature’ membership is just a cash cow for her as she collects the money and does little for it.Desired Settlement: Full refund.

It states "If I do not have a minimum of twelve matches in twelve months, my membership will be extended with no charge to me. I understand and agree that my membership fee is non-refundable." I do know my clients well, but our business model says that both parties have to accept the match to be a match. It is not typical but [redacted] asked that we "Only send her accepted matches"-which is why she has not heard from us most recently even though we have working behind the scenes to match her. She was just not aware of it because she refused to look at the men's profiles. Most of my clients are local, but one of them is an international lawyer that travels the world for business regularly. He is in our Premiere Level of the service and so selective that he has not accepted a match as yet. He is due to meet with me in Pittsburgh March 26, 2015. I was waiting to discuss [redacted] with him in person-since he has turned so many profiles down prior. I feel she is an excellent match for him primarily because of her intelligence level and travel experience for starters. I have either sent her profiles of potential matches (prior to her telling me she no longer wants to see them first) or sent her profile to 29 gentlemen, not including her first match. I do not feel that a refund is appropriate at this time for all of the above reasons and of course the terms of the contract. I feel bad that she referred to me as fraudulent. That is a very strong word to use without having proper documented evidence. In order to do my best to match my client [redacted] I offer to do a version of the Premiere Level for her without any additional charge. This level starts at $7,500 and goes up depending on the complexity of the search. This will allow me to scout for her-so she will not be dependent on just private paid clients. It is very time intensive and I often work with my Client Liaison to assist me. [redacted] neglected to tell you that she participated in our image consulting program. This is a free service we offer to clients who could benefit from an update as they step into the dating world. However she did of course have to pay the hair stylist and personal shopper. [redacted] told me she was very pleased with the results and even her friends and neighbors commented how nice she looks. Thank you-[redacted]
