Modern Steel Expressions

I hired Modern Steel Expressions (MSE) after they asked for the job numerous times, while I was gathering estimates from companies. Marcus Stanley referred James "Oscar" Benson from the company who visited the site 5 times in 2 months to measure and prepare. Was friendly and confident he could do the job. I paid a deposit 4 weeks in advance and I paid for all materials 3 weeks in advance so they could prime and paint steel beams as well as weld the steel beams for a pool roof. They ordered a boom truck that I paid in advance on my credit card then they showed up 2.5 days late to do the job. The beams were not fully prepared. They spent two days on the job buying more supplies, equipment, and paint on my credit card. The beams were supposed to have been primed and 2 coats of paint in advance. While doing the job, they damaged gutters and took out the electrical to the structure and before the job was finished, they asked to be paid so the crew (2 guys) could go home to OK. When I did not pay them right away, they stayed and finished the last day carelessly. The beams are not sturdy and the structure is dangerous now. They did fix the electrical but not the gutters so now I have to pay for that out of pocket as well find someone else to fix their work. They left thousands of pounds of scrap metal from the old beams in my driveway and did not refill the boom truck with fuel so another expense of mine out of pocket. Very unprofessional and poor workmanship. After I contacted them via text, James removed the scrap metal and was paid the balance owed. He asked what he could do to fix the job correctly like add supports or paint. He does not have the expertise to finish the job, he didn’t do it right the first time and lacked knowledge and resources. We called in an expert who said MSE used the wrong bolts, did not secure the beams making it a dangerous structure, poorly welded the plates to the beams with open spaces, etc. It will now cost me thousands more to get the roof finished. There are many other errors MSE made with this project so I recommend Not hire them as they misrepresented themselves as steel fabricators and able to hang steel beams. If your project is fencing, it’s your decision to give them a chance.
