Modern Tire & Auto Service Reviews (4)

Review: On July 2, 2015 - I brought my car in to have the A/C checked. 2 hours later Modern Tire called to tell me that after running a dye test, they determined that there were no leaks in the system and that the A/C would be fixed by replacing the Shrader Valves and Orfice Tube. According to Mike L[redacted] (sales person), these parts were "gunked up" and preventing the freon from passing through and cooling car. These repairs would cost $443. I approved this service to fix the problem. However, Mike also told me that the "real problem" with my car was that the idler pulley that pulls the MAIN Serpentine belt, was so badly rusted that it had completely frayed the belt. He stated he, "didn't think it was safe for me to drive home" with it this way. And assured me that I would "definitely get stuck on the side of the road" with the condition the belt and pulley were in. This service would cost $500+. I declined this service and brought my car for a second and third opinion, instead. One day later the A/C stopped working in the car, so I brought to a new garage. I had my car inspected by 2 separate mechanics at differnt places who both described my serpentine belts as being in "perfect condition".Also, this model of Chevy that I have does NOT EVEN have an idler pulley for the Main Serpentine belt, so how could it be rusted? The pulley for the secondary belt in my car was described as being "in perfect condition" as well.Under blacklight inspection, it was determined that that the original dye test done by Modern Tire indictated a noticable leak in the A/C line underneath the car. It was so noticable that even I could see it. The dye Modern Tire used was still present around the leaking area, therefore Modern Tire must have noticed it during the test they charged me for. Rather than fixing the leak, they recharged my car with A/C Freon and repalced valves knowing it would certainly leak out after a few days of usge and I would be back for additional costly repairsDesired Settlement: I was provided with false information about serious repairs needed to my vehichle. I was charged $443 for unethical and unneccessary repairs that did not fix the simple problem with my car.I am requesting a refund of my money and acknowledgement from the Revdex.com to the repair shop about their unethical services.

Dear Revdex.com.

Review: ON JUNE 7TH 2014 I HAD MY TIRES REPLACED ON MY 2002 [redacted]. I GOT A CALL FROM ONE OF THE GUYS AT THE FRONT DESK SAYING THAT THEY WERE HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ONE OF THE LUGS NOT COMING OFF, AND WHEN THEY DECIDED TO GO FORWARD WITH REMOVAL IT DAMAGED THE STUD AND NUT. EARLIER IN THE DAY THE CARS BRAKES WERE DONE AND THERE WERE NO ISSUES TAKING OFF AND PUTTING LUG NUTS ON. AFTER VISUALLY INSPECTING THE STUD AND NUT, I DETERMINED THAT IT HAD TO BE DONE WITH A POWER TOOL(WHICH WE DONT HAVE),DUE TOO APPARENT CROSS THREADING. I PAYED FOR IT ANYWAYS AND NOW WOULD LIKE THEM TO CREDIT ME FOR THE COST. I SPOKE TO THE STORE MANAGER ON JUNE 9TH 2014, HE DECLINED TO RE-IMBURSE OR TAKE FAULT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE HAS TO BE SOME ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THIS.Desired Settlement: I WOULD LIKE TO BE REFUNDED MY MONEY.

Response:

We have received the complaint and communicated with the associate who worked with the customer.

The customer stated he spoke to the store manager but was actually speaking with the sale associate who serviced him on June 7th.

Review: I tried to file this complaint online but received error messages. So, I called the CT Revdex.com and they told me to send it to [redacted].

Here is my complaint.

Modern Tire in Newington, CT performed a repair on a Toyota 4-Runner that I own in July 2013. The repair was not performed correctly and it could have created a safety issue. The repair is not in dispute, however, when I went in to complain I was told that I was being issued a gift card in the amount of $500. It is was issued to me by their employee J[redacted].

When I went to use the gift card on a repair on December 27, 2013, I was informed that it was in their computer for only $250.

Their Rocky Hill branch put me on the phone the person who issued it to me, and his manager, [redacted]. Neither would believe me when I stated that I was told that the card was issued to me with me being told it was for $500. The gentlemen who issued it to me said he had no recollection of it, except to say that in the history of his company he never issued a gift card for $500. All very well in good.

I am not a mechanic, nor do I work for Modern Tire, so their inner-workings are none of my concern. I am however their customer, and an honest one at that. I informed the counter help in their Rocky Hill location on 12/27/13 that this card should have been for $500 and they did not honor it. I expressed my displeasure at their decision, and informed them that I would make a formal complaint.

Thank you,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: The resolution I seek is:

I would like to be issued the other $250 I was told I would be receiving. I also plan to complain to the DCP for what amounts to fraud.

Response:

I personally spoke with [redacted] regarding the credit he remembers being issued. According to our system a $250.00 gift card was issued as a courtesy for the inconvenience of having to bring in a vehicle for work that was covered under warranty and repaired under warranty in July of 2013. [redacted] also spoke to the store manager J[redacted] who recalls the $250.00 amount from July and not the $500.00 amount. Today [redacted] wanted to use his remaining balance for another unrelated repair at one of our other facilities. [redacted] has also used the Gift Card on 2 separate occasions before today and the balance was never questioned.

Review: I brought my car to Modern Tire on [redacted] because it was making funny noises. They indicated that we would need some work done concerning the front axle and the cost would be a little over $900. They called back a little later and said it needed more done, to which they indicated the new cost would be over $1100. I authorized them to fix the car. When they called to say it was finished, I came and got it. Within 48 hours, the front passengers side tire seemed very wobbly on the side they worked on. My wife was leaving for a trip to Massachusetts. Thank God she never got to the highway because the car's brakes wouldn't engage unless she was driving straight. She went right through a stop sign at the bottom of our road. If she had gotten to the highway ramp, she could have easily been very hurt or killed. She inched her way home and I called Modern Tire very upset. How could they let a shoddy repair that could have killed someone leave their facility. I told them I wanted it fixed and I wanted the cost of the repair returned to me. They got a rental vehicle that I used for 4 days, while in the meantime they called 3 times indicating that the general manager, a [redacted] would be calling me to discuss the money back. Friday, no call, Saturday no call from [redacted], but they called wanting the rental back and told me [redacted] would call me. Sunday I get a call from the counter help indicating that [redacted] was hard to reach, and that he wouldn't be calling me. At this point, I am beside myself wondering how they can deliver such awful service and survive? When you work on someone's car and you screw it up so badly it could have caused your consumer bodily harm or even death, I want a bigger apology. When I expressed my concerns to their counter help, he stated that [redacted] won't be calling me at all, and he said no to returning my money, stating "[redacted] said they already did enough for me". Yes, they placed the live's of me and my family in harms way. No contrition, no apology, and no recognition of the insult that paying for this shoddy repair feels like. I want the money they charged me (the $1100+) returned to me, and a formal apology from [redacted] for not attending to me, his customer with better service and any sense of concern for the well-being of my family, who's live's his staff put in jeopardy. If Modern Tire does not return my entire repair money, I will be drafting a formal complaint to the State's Attorney General's Office, and I'll be asking for a full investigation into the practices of Modern Tire and more. I will give Modern Tire until Friday 11/14 at noon to respond. If they are not agreeable, I'll let the state decide.Desired Settlement: I want the entire cost of my repair ($1100+) returned to me, and a formal apology from their General Manager or owner.
