In regards to my complaint that I submitted on September 4, 2014 to the Revdex.com regarding the Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center, following is my rebuttal.
I purchased my sewing machine at an estate sale in Tracy. My son delivered it here to my house in Modesto. Because the sewing machine did not work, I went to the Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center, 1600 McHenry Ave., Modesto, and I spoke with [redacted]s. I explained to Mr. [redacted]s the condition of the sewing machine and he said he would come to my house to fix it.
All my life I have used a sewing machine, making clothes for my children and general seamstress work. I am very familiar with different brands of sewing machines.
Before Mr. [redacted]s left my house, I paid him $69.96 in cash. On the receipt it states that the unit price was $89.96, but because all he did was oil the machine he discontinued the $20.00. A few days later when I attempted to use the machine it simply did not work; and it was in the same bad condition as the first day that it was brought here.

About one year ago, I purchased a Brother Dream Sewing and embroidery machine from Mr. Edwards at his store. He presented it to me as a new machine. It was boxed in a factory box and he ran it out to my car and placed it in the car. I never saw it set up in his store. When I got it out of the box, I could smell his cleaning solution on it and noted some fine scratch marks on the plastic bed of the machine. I did not really question this until I started having trouble with the stitching while machine quilting. I asked him if this was a new machine and he changed the subject. I took the machine back to him to fix the problem but it was not fixed. I contacted Brother International and learned that he was not an authorized Brother dealer and not authorized to repair these machines. I took the machine to Sacramento and that is when I found out that the machine was a used one that he had purchased 2 years ago. He sold me this machine for more than a new machine cost. I have been trying to get him to refund the $7,000.00 he overcharged me for the machine but he will not speak to me. I contacted the district attorney's office to make a fraud complaint but they would not help because I am the only one complaining about him. I contacted a lawyer who sent him 2 demand letters which he has ignored. He claims that I knew this was a used machine but that is an outright lie. So, if it was a used machine, why did he charge me MORE than what a new machine costs.? I do not know what else to do here except maybe put an ad in the paper that says this guy is a crook.

Review: On 8-26-14 a representative from Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center, Modesto CA, came to my house on a service call. He serviced my sewing machine and charged me $69.96. I immediately gave him $69.96 in cash.

The next day I went to my sewing machine and the machine did not work which was exactly the situation before he came. I called him and he said he would come here the next day; after 5:00 PM which is when he got off work. However he never came here. I went to his store several times and I also called him on the phone several times. He never came here and never called me. He lied to me all the time.Desired Settlement: I would like to have my sewing machine repaired or a refund of $69.96.

Review: Sewing machine was taken to store to clean and repair the bobbin area as was not winding thread. Owner asured me machine was repaired.

Approx. 1 week prior husband took machine to Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center to clean, service and repair my [redacted] 2000 sewing machine as the bobbin area would not wind thread.

On Oct 23 2013 I picked up and paid for [redacted] 2000 sewing machine by Visa for $69.98. Owner reasured me sewing machine was fixed and it really only needed cleaning. I questioned about the bobbin and he said it was only dusty. We had a friendly conversation about the merger of [redacted] with [redacted]. He told me I had a great sewing machine. Then he offered and carried the machine to my car as he said it was too heavy for me to lift.

On November 3 I proceeded to use the sewing machine but right away encountered a problem. The bobbin would not wind the thread. I placed the bobbin in the holder and it just sat there making whirring noises. I had to sew my project by hand.

Today Nov 18 2013 I returned to the store (Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center) with my sewing machine. Upon entering at 5pm I told the owner I needed to get my sewing maching fixed. I told him it had been in the shop just 3 weeks prior to fix the very problem I was having. The owner got up from his chair and started shouting at me. He was very angry. He demanded to know what I paid for the service. I told him I paid $69.98 and he called me a liar. Said I didn't pay a million dollars to fix the machine. I repeated that I paid $69.98 to have the machine fixed yet it wasn't repaired. He demanded the receipt and I told him it was at home. I assumed he would remember me as we talked for quite awhile about the sewing machine companies just 3 weeks prior. He shouted at me again saying I didn't know how to operate my machine. Then demanded the foot pedal. I told him that was at home too. When I picked up my machine before he told me he didn't need my cord as he had plenty to use. So why the flip flop in behavior? My husband gave me this [redacted] Sewing machine brand new for a present. I tried to asure him I knew how to wind a bobbin since Ive had the machine for many years. Then he called me a GD liar and cursed me again. By now I was in tears as the man was still shouting at me. I told him all I wanted was to have my machine repaired. He told me it would take a week. He said a pin was broken and the tab that held the bobbin in place was also broken. He accused me of breaking it during the 3 weeks I had the machine. I told him I didnt have time to use it right away and I was busy with a wedding. That part was broken when my husband initially brought the machine in for repair. I told him that a week was OK for the repairs. He stated he needed to order the part then his whole demeanor changed and he started up shouting and belittling me again. He was cursing me and I really wanted out of that shop. I didnt deserve to be treated in this manner-verbally abused. He picked my machine off his work area and slammed it at me. The weight of the machine made me stagger and I was afraid I would drop it. He shouted at me to get the [redacted] out of his store as he didnt want my GD business.

I want my money back and I want him punished. I didn't deserve his barage of curse words and behavior. His young clerk looked shell shocked over the incident. He mumbled that he was sorry. Sorry doesnt excuse this man's behavior. It was all I could do in carrying my machine. This man is very sick. My sewing machine is a [redacted] 2000.I paid with my Visa on Oct 23 2013 at 10:36 am.Desired Settlement: I want a refund as he didn't follow through and repair my machine as instructed. I want an appology and for him to see somebody for his unexcusable behavior. It was unexcusable to curse and shout at a customer. I did nothing to provoke this abusive verbal attack. It was all I could do to carry my machine back to my car with my disability. I am still shocked over this verbal attack. I called my husband and told him exactly what he said and did.
