Moe's Process Serving, Inc.

Review: Moe's was recommended by a Sacramento attorney I'd spoken with on the phone regarding an out of state lawsuit. The defendant was located in Sacramento and I was in Washington state, so I sought recommendations for process servers. I called Moe's and a few other companies to check rates. Laurie (at Moe's) said they charged $30 for MULTIPLE attempts of service, so I went with them. The first time they attempted service, Laurie said it was a vacant house for sale and asked if I had another address. (I'd paid them their $30 in advance, before they started working the case). I came up with another address - they made one attempt there and informed me the defendant did not live at that address, either. They then sent me another bill for $30. I thought it was a billing error, so I ignored it. Then another bill came with a $5 late fee added. I called Moe's today and spoke with Laurie. I reminded her she told me the fee was $30 for MULTIPLE attempts of service, and they had only made two attempts for me. She became rather irate (and rude), raising her voice and saying that fee was PER ADDRESS. Well, she NEVER told me that when she quoted the price. After the first attempt was made, she asked me for another address, which I provided. This would've been the time to say, "It's $30 more for another address, " but it was never said. All I knew is it was their second attempt, which was far less than the MULTIPLE attempts Laurie stated they would make. The customer service at this business is lacking; they should be more up front about costs with their customers instead of adding fees on that were not discussed. I'm not okay with that.Desired Settlement: Moe's shouldn't have charged any amounts on top of the $30 I paid without making full disclosure of it first. This is unfair business practice and a "bait and switch" technique. I was willing to discuss this matter with Laurie, but she became extremely rude, raising her voice and hanging up on me, while I was completely calm. She's probably like this because of the people she deals with every day in her line of work.

In March we received a call from [redacted], an out of state In Pro Per. My office manager spoke to [redacted] and explained that we do not provide services for In Pro Per's (someone acting on their own/ without attorney) and suggested that she search for a company that does provide that service. We explained that we only work with attorneys and insurance companies. At that time [redacted] stated that she was a personal friend of a known client and he had referred her to Moe's for assistance. As a favor to a well known client we took the case. We quoted our standard fee of $40.00 for service in Elk Grove.
