Review: I stopped in about a month ago to purchase a pair of very hard to find Birkenstock Footrprints. The shoes I was after haven't been made in quite some time. I ended up buying a different pair while I was at the store since the owner didn't have what I was really after. As I left the owner managed to find just the pair I was looking for at their other store. They were even in my size! Elated I purchased the second pair as well. At this point I was quite happy, if not quite six hundred dollars lighter.

A few days later the second pair of shoes arrived by mail and they were not what I was expecting. While they were the right style they underwent a color change before they were sent to me. The shoes I spent nearly three hundred dollars on were not black. Strike that, they were now black but started life brown. Normally when leather is tanned both sides take the same color. That's how tanning works. The hide is dipped in the dye. I've never seen black leather tanned in such a way that the opposite side of the leather was a different color! I phoned Mr. Montague about this and he agreed to refund my money. I did not accuse the Montague's of the color change but simply said this was unacceptable. And so I followed his direction and mailed them back to his store with a note in the box regarding my contact information. He was to phone me when they arrived and process a return over the phone. As of this review it has now been three weeks since I mailed them back. No phone call.

Last week I phoned and was told Mr. Montague wasn't available. Oddly the young woman working seemed to know exactly who I was and what my call was about. "Oh, the Footprints, right?", she replied when I explained why I was calling him to process a return. She took down my contact information and promised to leave a note for the owner. Having not heard from the owner I placed another phone call today. the phone rang immediately to voicemail, where I left a message, and I have yet to contacted about the return.Desired Settlement: Montague & Son owes me $270.30. I would appreciate the refund of my purchase as Mr. Montague, the owner, agreed.
