Montauk Soundview Resort

Review: My wife and I have been vacationing at this resort for the last 46 years. In early June 2013, I had sent a $500.00 check as a deposit to confirm our reservations for our customary one week vacation for the [off-season] period beginning Oct. **. 2013 through Oct. **, 2013. Earlier this month, I was advised by my doctor that I MUST undergo surgery likely to occur during the week of Oct. **, 2013. This need was also confirmed by my surgeon. Upon learning of my situation and the nesessary recovery period, I contacted the Montauk Soundview to advise that, given the situation, we would be unable meet our vacation plans. Shockingly, I was surprised to learn that they refused to release my $500.00 deposit; claiming that any cancellation notice within a thirty day window, would automatically cause the forfeiture of the full amount of the deposit. Up to this point, and after all these years, I was never advised of this policy, nor did I ever agree to be bound by this policy either expressly or impliedly. Moreover, given the circumstances I've just described, it seems to me that after being model patrons of 46 years, I believe their response should have been ' I'm sorry to hear the news, I hope all works out well for you and our check to you for $500.00 will be in the mail and should arrive shortly. Have a speedy recovery and I will look forward to seeing you next year'. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the way this whole situation has been handled.
