Customer came to Monte's Auto Repair for a quote to install a water pump on a 2000 Cadillac Deville. An agreed price of $198 for "LABOR" only on a "CUSTOMER SUPPLIED PART". In addition to a gallon of coolant for $15 from us. We don't judge vehicles as all we do is fix them but this vehicle has seen...

its better days. The first thing that happened to my Technician when bringing in the Cadillac is the steering column fell into his lap.Technician didn't think nothing of it but just another vehicle that additional problems. Customer was aware that column was broke prior to bring in. It moves up and down around and around. Water pump job was performed and went as expected. When it was time to start the car to bleed the system, we were unable to because vehicle would not start. NOW, water pump is in the engine compartment and is part of the cooling system. Upon restarting, there was signs it was a security issue with the key. We donated about a hour and a half of our time to try different things. There is vital wires in the steering column including wires for the security. With the steering wheel wobbling all over the place(have pictures and video) were assuming when it fell into my technician's lap something must have occurred. In no way shape or form, we should be held responsible for this. We did exactly what we were ask to perform. Its unfortunate there was additional issues with this vehicle and it just so happened occur on our watch but certainly had nothing to do with the Water pump. Another note is that their was a used "junkyard" battery bought that had been determined to have a "bad Cell" which can mess with the electronics of the system. All send and done we notified customer of the additional issues the car has and told him that these would need to be done in order to do the bleeding. We notified customer that we are not lock smiths, can program keys or deal with security issues. Suggested bring it to dealer or have locksmith give a shot at it. As you can see in the form, we had him sign off because why would a shop be responsible for the customers diagnostic or part. Customer refused to pay for the job performed as requested. At that point we notified customer that storage will occur after 3 days and that this vehicle is your responsibility to pay and remove. Three weeks later Monte's Auto notified him of the $745 bill with storage. We told him that the vehicle must be paid within 45 days or it will be considered abandoned. We then will exercise our rights to pay bill off. He was notified that it would be smart to pay the bill, remove vehicle so he was not responsible for any storage. Then can proceed to take us to small claims if he so desires to.
