I am responding to complaint ID regarding ***. We received the complaint by U.S. mail today 06/06/19.

I have researched Mr.’s student account. His account is in collection because he owes the remaining balance for a class that was dropped with a grade after our refund dates. These costs were incurred for the spring semester of 2018 and did not go to collections until February of 2019. Mr. received 3 notifications from Montgomery College regarding the outstanding balance. These notifications were sent to his student email account as shown below.

The payment deadlines and requirements for Montgomery College are posted on our website and can be accessed from the students portal called MyMC. Here are two of our websites which provide this information https://*** and https://***. In order to avoid financial responsibility, students must officially drop their classes by the refund deadline. The costs of classes dropped with a grade are the responsibility of the student.

Mr. was enrolled in three classes in the spring of 2018 and dropped one of these classes with a grade after the refund date. The detail for the dropped class is below.

The charges that were sent to collection reflect the tuition, fees and collection costs on Mr.’s account in the amount of $2,704.59 less the payments he made of $1,688.85 for a balance of $1,015.74.

The college cannot remove an account from collections if it was placed correctly and my research shows that this debt was placed correctly and is outstanding. Once a debt is sent to the Central Collections Unit, the student must deal with them directly. Students whose accounts have been sent to the State of Maryland Central Collections Unit (CCU) can contact the CCU at for assistance.

The total cost of the three classes that *** took plus book charges and fees came to $1,765.19. The financial aid credited to his account was $846.00. The resulting unpaid amount of $919.19 was subsequently sent to collections.

We have followed up with the complainant and their issue with the college has been resolved. It was resolved by our IT Service Desk. There were some hurdles in processing the original request but I did speak with the customer who was satisfied with the final resolution. l am responding to your letter dated June 14, 2018 regarding a complaint ?led against***. Upon review of this student's record, we did not see any incorrect feesposted on his account. We are not aware of any misprinted checks on this student's account oranyone forcing him to sign any document.

We were aware of one refund check that we were trying to reissue to the student. The refundcheck was initially issued at the end of April 2018. The student completed and submitted acheck replacement request at the end of May 2018. We were going to issue a refund check theweek of June 13th, but the student called and wanted to delay the refund until his ***account was verified.The College direct deposited the refund to the student's *** accounton June 20, 2018.

I spoke with the student to request support and facts to his complaint. Per his request, hewanted my e-mail address to send the details and I have not received any information from thestudent as of the time of this writing. We believe that the College has successfully ful?lled thestudents desired outcome.
