Review: I made an appointment specifically to get a night guard for my teeth for grinding and was denied services today. I had to wait almost 2 months for the appointment. I had recently switched dental insurance to my husband's insurance in January and needed to find a new dentist under the new insurance. When I called Montgomery Dental Associates for the night guard, I was not asked to get a cleaning first or to provide an dental history in order to get the night guard. At the appointment time which was on 3/6/14 I was told at first that I should get a night guard, I had two choices for night guards, and that they would order one. I asked whether there was a difference in price and if they could check with insurance on what would be covered. They assured me they were affiliated with [redacted] which is my new insurance and checked on the coverage. While waiting, I asked the dentist to please look at my gums for any problems that might have resulted from teeth grinding. I explained that I had recently been to a checkup last fall with my dentist who's not affiliated with [redacted]. She did not ask for any of my history or take any xrays, yet after looking at my teeth for a minute or two stated that I need to have up to 10 or more cavities filled first and possibly an implant replaced prior to receiving a night guard. I stated that I would like to have a deeper investigation of the cavities since I had just had some filled last year which were recently inspected, info sent from my previous dentist and new xrays done before getting the work she deemed necessary. I also said it would take up to a year to get the teeth fixed the way she wanted especially if an implant was involved and therefore I still needed a night guard prior to any other work being done. She refused to order an implant, gave me no indication any cleaning or cavities would be filled quickly and furthermore when I questioned her on why there may be so many cavities now than less than 6 months ago she said sometimes there were small stains on the teeth and when they drilled down they sometimes found that the cavity went way down. I'm not a dentist, but every other dentist I've been to takes xrays to see how large a cavity may be. She never even mentioned xrays, but simply talked about drilling as a see as you go type of procedure. This scared me and I was also incredibly frustrated that I was being refused a night guard when prior to the appointment, no examination or cleaning was requested prior to ordering. Also, I had only asked her to look at my teeth at my own request and not a requirement of hers, yet she was still withholding the night guard unless I spent thousands of dollars getting various cavities filled and a new implant which has been inspected for over 20 years now yet she was requesting it be replaced by just a 2 minute review of my mouth. She also gave me no temporary fix to help with my teeth grinding during this waiting period she insisted on even though it might take a full year to get the work done she wanted even though later a coworker told me there are night guards you can buy even at [redacted] that are temporary. She also seemed to have no idea how to solve night grinding in the meantime other than this night guard that I'd have to wait a long time for even though on the web I was easily able to find other methods for alleviating teeth grinding. I have a $2000 yearly limit on my dental and do not want this company to file and be paid for a claim that would take away any of that $2000 limit. I do not believe I or my insurance owes this company any money for the visit on 3/6/14. I had to wait close to 2 months for the appointment and the appointment wasted 2 hours of my billable time during today and I still need to go to another dentist in order to get the original request filled. This business has moved to suite [redacted] in the same building, however I tried to add a new business contact through Revdex.com and it did not go through so since the one on file was close enough, I am referencing it. The name and phone number has not changed. Their email address is [email protected] Settlement: I would like the company to not bill my insurance for the appointment where they refused to provide me the service the appointment was for. I do not intend to ever go back to this business and am fine not pursuing compensation anymore if they will not file a claim.
