Review: [redacted] misrepresented himself as a licensed and bonded contractor. I have since learned that he is neither. His contractor's license expired last year and he has not been bonded since October 2013. I was very clear with him that I wanted to be informed of the problem with a leaking toilet BEFORE any work was done. This is an investment property unit and I was not going to meet with him in person. I informed him of this over the phone on our initial call and I texted him again on the day the work was scheduled to be done. I gave him my direct phone number and an additional phone number for someone authorized to act on my behalf. He took it upon himself to perform the work without calling me or my designee. When I asked him about this, he said if the amount was going to be more than $200.00, he would have called me. He went on to say that since it was under that amount ($175.00), he decided to do the work without my permission. He also never disclosed a minimum service charge, which after the fact he stated is $85.00. When I inquired about why I was being charged so much, he never gave me an answer. Instead, he said he was not a handyman and that he does not charge handyman prices. He said he has two mortgages to pay and that he has to support his wife and kids. He then went on to call me "cheap" because I wanted to know what I was being charged for. In summary, he is misrepresenting himself and is unethical in his business practices. He is also rude and unprofessional.Desired Settlement: I have paid him what I would pay a handyman, $50.00. What he did took him five minutes to do and I never would have hired him, had I known he was unlicensed and not bonded. In essence by misrepresenting himself, he is practicing unlawfully and I feel I owe him nothing. I want him to cease from calling and texting me, as he did this past Saturday and Sunday. The "F" rating he has with you is exactly what he deserves. I am also reporting him to the State Board of Contractors.
