Moore's Karate of Elk Grove Reviews (1)

Review: Was forced "talked" into signing my 4 year old up for martial arts. Signed papers but was never given a written copy. Requested a copy verbally and electronically and the Owner/Instructor could never give me a straight answer OR point me in the right direction to obtain one. We stopped going because the instructor was horrible and the classes were repetitive and a joke but wanted your money every other week for a belt, attire, etc... Moore's fund collection agency (Affiliated Acceptance Corporation) who are they? never heard of them... Spoke to a rep there and informed me that they held the contract and that I needed to contact them to obtain a copy of my contract which the Owner of Moore's Elk Grove could never give me the info to them. Now I owe a back fee and there's nothing they can do for me. Lousy company, all they want and care about is your money.Desired Settlement: All I ask is to cancel my contract and stop the charges or at least reduce the monthly charges considering we have NO desire to attend again.

Response:

Hi, my name is [redacted] and I own the Moore's Karate school in question. First off let me state for the record I'm extremely disappointed to see Mrs. [redacted] would respond in such a manner. I've always had a good relationship with her and always have been open to discuss any concerns about her daughter [redacted] and her being a student of our karate school. One of the reasons I had such a good relationship with her is because Mrs. [redacted] has other family that are members of our school but she failed to mention that. Her brother-in-law [redacted] is a black belt at my school and her mother-in-law [redacted] is a student as well. She was referred by the both of them to enroll her daughter to instill some of our martial arts culture for a child such as discipline, structure and teamwork. In the beginning [redacted]'s attendance was great and after a couple of months her attendance got sporadic. I asked Mrs. [redacted] to step into my office and reviewed the attendance of her daughter and pulled out her agreement and pointed out that when she signed [redacted] up she agreed to bring her in 2x a week as part of the curriculum for 12 months. Mrs. [redacted] at that point told me that she has a hard time getting her daughter there because she gets sidetracked with other things. She also said that she grew up with her own parents allowing her to give up on anything she started and she didn't want to repeat the process with her daughter and that's a big reason she originally brought her in. I told her I would hold her accountable on her attendance and we even got both of her mother-in-laws to start bringing the child in one day a week and the other day was getting lost when it was up for Mrs. [redacted] to bring her.

At one point Mrs. [redacted] said she wanted to discontinue her daughter and I reminded her of the 12month agreement. She said she lost her copy and I offered to give her a duplicate. She came in the following week and I gave it to her, that's why I'm confused why she would say I refused to give her a copy. I've always been so open to help her especially because she has other family members enrolled at our school. She then asked if she could transfer to another Moore's facility. she knew there was one in Lodi which is closer to her, but she was coming to elk grove because her family members spoke so highly of the program for children. I told her she is welcome to transfer to Lodi school if she liked but would still be obligated to honor her 12-month agreement with Moore's in elk grove. She sent me an email confirming they were going to attend there and I could transfer her auto-draft payment to the other facility. Students are allowed to go to any Moore's facility at no additional cost, their tuition stays with the school they originally sign up with and then after their 12month agreement is met, they can decide to re-sign with another facility if they choose to do so.

Mrs. [redacted] attended the Lodi facility for a few months but then started telling that instructor she wanted to quit as well because she couldn't find the time to come in even though it was only a few miles away from their home. The head instructor advised her to contact me (the elk grove facility) because I'm still the holder of the contract. I received a call from the Lodi school appx 2 weeks ago regarding this and he told me he advised Mrs. [redacted] to contact me. Our schools allow students to go to any facility they would like under the Moore's name but their tuition stays where they originally joined. We all work as a family to help out the students as best we can.

I have not heard from Mrs. [redacted] other than receiving this message from you today. I don't understand the allegations she is saying about our program being lousy, we have one of the best kids program within the Moore's system. Furthermore, Mrs. [redacted] states in her complaint that I was asking for money every other week for belts and attire. Her daughter was enrolled in our Lil Dragons program, there are no belt fees in that program. I've never asked for anything additional from her including attire. I gave her as I do with all new students her 1st uniform for FREE and any additional karate clothing is optional and never mandatory. The only thing Mrs. [redacted] had to be responsible for was her monthly tuition as well as bring her child 2x a week and that was it.

Please let me know what else is needed to help resolve this terrible and rude complaint about my school.

Mr. [redacted]
