When I brought my vehicle into Moorland Auto Repair I put my keys through a night drop. There were no envelopes provided that would allow me to sign an estimate that would be in compliance with the department of agriculture guidelines. Before beginning any repairs or diagnostic I should have received a phone call from Moorland Auto but that did not happen. I called Moorland Auto Repair to ask when they would be checking my vehicle since no one from the business called me. [redacted] stated that they had already checked the car but that the technician was working up an estimate and he would call me back. When he called me back he said that the door handle would be $145.00 (not the price he told me the week before) and that the speedometer needed a gear. I told him that I just had the transmission rebuilt and he said that I could call them but that it was probably not a part that would be replaced during a transmission rebuild. I told him that I would call the transmission shop. In the meantime I also had called several other automotive repair shops told them the symptoms I was having with my speedometer and they said those gears wear out and all of them quoted between $95. and $145. to replace the sensor. At that time I called Moorland Auto back and told them to just replace the door handle for the $145.00 but [redacted] said he didn't know if he could complete the job anymore that day due to "logistics". I told him that was fine just call me with a time or day it would be done. I then received a call, not from [redacted] but from the technician, and he said the truck was done. I asked how much the total was with tax and that is when he gave me the outrageous total. He said that [redacted] said that if I brought the truck back to him for the repair there would be no labor to install the part. On my phone I have record of all the incoming and outgoing calls between myself and Moorland Auto and I can assure you that he never called me before beginning repairs with any estimate and I can assure you that I would have never authorized such an absurd amount to "scan" a vehicle. I could take my car to any parts place, for example, Auto Zone, and they "scan" your car at no charge. As for the receipt from Arrow Hyundai, you can clearly see the difference in price. [redacted] from Moorland Auto refers to me asking for the speed sensor to be replaced which is true, but I had called Moorland Auto the week before taking it to him and asked him to replace the sensor and he said that there could be 4-6 things that would cause the speedometer not to work. The bottom line is, [redacted] from Moorland Auto Repair did unauthorized repairs to my vehicle and I should not have to pay for them, I am only responsible for the work I authorized which was the door handle (and that was more than what he told me prior to the repairs). If [redacted] likes, we can compare phone records of incoming and outgoing call, I have no problem with that. I will never return to his place of business and I would warn others as well.
Thank you for you time in reading this.

[redacted] called us the week of Jan.12 2015, she wanted an estimatefor a door handle and speedometer fix ,I said we would have tosee the vehicle to give her an estimate, she made an appointmenton Jan. 19 2015. She dropped the car off on Sunday the 18,keys in the drop box. We followed the requirement of...

state statuteAG#132A by filling out a work order with the notation that thevehicle was received without face to face customer contact. We looked at the car on the 19 AM, I called her at 11: 15 AM andtold her the door handle parts and labor would be $145.00 plustax, and the speedometer we would have to scan the computerand see if it is a computer, sensor, or a mechanical problem. The estimate was $154.00. [redacted] said, go ahead and scan, andreplace door handle.I called her back at 1 :45PM and told her the door handle was fixedand we found that the speedometer gear sensor was bad, and it wouldcost $279.00 parts, labor, and diagnostic. She said she had the transmissionoverhauled less thana year ago. I said why don"t you call the shop and see if it is underwarranty. It would have been better if she would have said somethingabout that when I talked to her at 11: 15AM. Because I would nothave had to do the diagnostic testing. [redacted] called back at 3 :45PMand said she would be picking upthe car. She asked what the bill amount was going to be and I said$299.00+ tax. She said she would be down to pick it up at about4:30PM.When she picked up the car, nothing was said about the bill cost.I asked her what she was going to do about the sensor, she saidArrow Hyundai could do it cheaper. I never said anything aboutrefunding diagnostic. I do not believe l owe [redacted] any refund. Wediagnosed the problem for her. Enclosed is a copy of ArrowHyundai's repair order. It clearly states "Replace the speedometerdrive gear per customer request." If I had not diagnosed the problem, this customer would not have been able to tell Arrow Hyundai exactlywhat to do. They would have had to do the diagnostic test todetermine the problem and I guarantee they would have charged her for it.Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: The week prior I called this shop and asked for an estimate to replace the interior drivers door handle and vehicle speed sensor. I was told that it would be about $60 to check the vehicle plus parts. I made an appointment for Monday, January 19th and dropped my truck off the night before. I put my keys in an envelope with my information and wrote the instructions replaced d/s interior door handle and advise on speedometer. I hadn't heard from the shop so I called them at 10:47am. [redacted] told me that they were just getting an estimate together and he would call me back. He said that the door handle would be $145.00 installed and that the speedometer repair would be $344.00 for parts and labor because it was a plastic gear in the transmission. I told him that I recently had the transmission rebuilt and I told him I would call them to see if it was under warranty. The transmission shop said that it was not something that would be replaced when the transmission was replaced but he said that it would be about $125.00 parts and labor. I got suspicious so I called Arrow Hyundai and asked them how much to replace the gear and they stated $95.00 parts and labor. I called [redacted] back at 1:42pm and informed him that he should just replace the door handle for $145.00 and he said due to logistics it may not be done the same day so I told him to call me back and let me know. I did not receive a call until 3:44pm by someone else at the shop and they said the truck was ready to be picked up. I asked what the total was with tax and he said $314.00 and when I questioned the price he told me that [redacted] said if I brought the car back he would credit me the diagnostic. When looking at the receipt I rea[redacted]ed that he charged me two different fees for computer engine analysis and onboard computer test. I never authorized that. I never received a call from them before beginning any repairs to get my authorization for any of this work. I was told the week prior that the estimate was $60 plus part. He performed work on my vehicle that I never authorized. When I picked my truck up I told him that I got two other estimates one for $125. and one for $95.00 at the dealer. He told me that places like that just tell you a lower price to get you in the door and the the price is higher, I said "just like you did". I immediately took my vehicle to Arrow Hyundai and they fixed the the truck (I have attached a copy of their invoice as well). The part was $16.27 and labor was $57.50. [redacted] called and left me as message two days later and wanted to talk to me, he said the part was $125.00 and there would be no labor, I saved his voice message. Needless to say, the vehicle is no repaired and speedometer works just fine!Desired Settlement: I feel that I should be credited the amount not authorized. Although I was told one price ($60 plus parts) and then when I got there the price was much higher for the door handle, I did tell them to proceed with the $145.00 for just the door handle, but I was NEVER told about the additional charges for diagnostic, I was NEVER given and estimate with total charges, and I feel that I should receive that price credited back to my charge card.
