I'll try to share the short story, so here goesBut I will preface this by saying I have never submitted a negative review or complaint to the Revdex.com in my lifeIt's just that I was so floored by my experience that I felt it needed to be recorded somewhere
I, along with my husband and my mother (visiting from another province) went to Wharf Wraps for lunch on July -- a final outing with my mom before she went back home the next morning
I won't belabour the issues with the initially bumpy service (hey, all restaurants have their off days -- I was in the industry, so I get that)I'll just say it was a bit of a rough startBut, after receiving our beverages and food, which at first glance looked great (and we had heard great things about the place before), I quickly realized my Seafood Caesar Salad dish was not actually properly cooked (as in, there were two large, and obviously raw shrimp and the entire dish was sitting in a puddle of sauce that made it more like seafood and soggy lettuce soup than a salad)But, it was really the fact that the shrimp was completely raw that made me feel suddenly queasy
I do understand that these things happen; so, after waiting for a few minutes for the server to return and check with us about our meals (she didn't, after about minutes of waiting), I decided to walk to the cash area to let my server know of the issueBefore she had a chance to do or say anything (she was quite nice, by the way, if perhaps a bit inattentive), the manager on duty proceeded to berate meYes, berate meLoudly and in front of her staff and other customersShe was extremely defensive and unapologeticShe did finally offer to cook me the same dish again (which was actually a very unappetizing idea to me by this point); however, she did so by holding up one of the raw shrimp, then flinging it back on the plate and grumpily and sharply saying to me, "Well, I guess we can cook you another one!" I think the idea was to make me feel badly for bringing it to their attention at all
I told her, quietly, steadily, and as calmly as I could that, no, the others at my table were almost done their meals and I was no longer hungryI simply said, "I just cannot eat this and I'm just giving this back to you and I thought it was important to offer this feedback, as I've been in the business myself and I know things happen." The manager yelled (yes, yelled) that she had been in business for years and asked if I knew how many times she had to explain to people how their dishes were preparedI was dumbfounded
Stunned and shaken, I walked back to my table and just sat there, trying to comprehend what had just taken placeAnd I was upsetThe server came to our table to quietly apologize on behalf of herself and said she would not charge me for my mealI thanked her and told her I felt sorry for her, having to work with that other individualA tyrant, reallyI got the impression that this sort of outburst from this manager wasn't at all unusual, which is what made me want to send in this review -- as a public serviceI gather the business is up for sale -- I hope this manager doesn't come as part of the deal
(On the up-side, I understand the clubhouse and the fish tacos were quite good.)
