Review: Dear Sir / Madam,My name is [redacted] and my complaint is against the firm Morris & Mcveigh LLP (located at [redacted]) and in particular [redacted] for fraudulent billing. On July **, 2014 I was looking at a copy of the magazine Best Lawyers to find an attorney for my mother as she has a trust & Estate planning case that is taking place overseas. I came across an ad for the law firm Morris & Mcveigh, LLP which as per the advertisement had experience dealing with matters pertaining to trusts and estate planning. I contacted the firm and asked to speak with [redacted] who appeared in the ad. I spoke to [redacted] briefly explaining some of the key points of my mothers case and explained to him that my mother was looking to hire an attorney for a trust case who would work on a contingency basis. [redacted] told me to email him the facts on her case and that another attorney (other than himself) would contact me the following day.The following day on July ** my mother received a phone call from an attorney by the name of [redacted] from the law firm of Morris & Mcveigh. During the course of her phone conversation which lasted about 10 to 15 minutes [redacted] never informed her that he was going to bill for this initial phone call. Furthermore he informed her that he had not read the documentations that I had emailed the day before and that he would not agree to look at any documents or evidence until she signed a retainer agreement with him. So my mother basically very briefly told him some key points of her case and also asked him if his firm would agree to represent her on a contingency basis which he declined. He further stated that he did not have experience with trust cases overseas. Not being satisfied with [redacted]s level of experience with trust matters in overseas cases and the fact that he did not work on a contingency basis she decided not to hire the services of [redacted] or his law firm. [redacted] has now sent me a bill for the amount of $742.50. This bill is addressed to me ([redacted]) even though it is my mother who is looking to hire an attorney. I basically talked initially to this law firm (specifically [redacted]) to let them know what my mother was looking for and what her needs in this case were. [redacted] nor [redacted] never once informed either myself or my mother that the initial phone call would be billable.1-We do not have a retainer agreement with this law firm or any attorneys associated with this law firm.2- [redacted] did not look at any facts of the case that my mother had forwarded to him and did not provide any legal advice.3-[redacted] who was the person contacting my mother never informed her that the phone call would be billable.Given these facts I pray that this complaint gets reviewed it seems to me that [redacted] is just trying to extort funds in the form of a bill for services never retained nor rendered.Thank you and regards,Desired Settlement: The desired settlement would be for this law firm to stop sending a bill for services that they have never been retained for nor rendered.
