blamed on the use of de-icing compounds; however, de-icing compounds are used on most concrete surfaces such as roads, sidewalks and driveways without damage for many yearsThe difference is in the age, quality and formulation of the concrete and the finishing techniques used at the time of installation
Literature is attached which you might find useful in understanding the causative factors involved in concrete spallingIn addition, information about proper usage and handling is included on the back of deicer packages/containers:
All deicers can accelerate surface damage to concrete, since they increase the number of freeze-thaw cyclesPoor quality concrete is especially susceptible to deicer damageUse this product only on properly formulated, cured, air-entrained concreteDo not use on concrete less than one year old or on brick or flagstone walkways having mortar jointsThis product must be used at the user's own risk of loss or damage from use, storage or handling
Deicers/salt sometimes gets blamed for damage, but then salt is often used concurrently with the occurrence of freeze-thaw cyclesThis gives the incorrect impression that the deicer/salt caused the spalling when in fact the concrete may have not been formulated properly

Thank you for your patience as we consulted with our Quality Assurance Team regarding your concern. The results of...
the investigation were received by our office from the supplier on October 5, 2015 at 3:02 pm CT. The results are as follows: while rare, product can be slightly discolored from contact with equipment during production, packaging and/or shipment. The source of discoloration is not hazardous, and there would be no risk of harm when the product is used in a water softener as intended.
A refund check was mailed to you on 10/7/2015 for the market price amount for two bags of Morton Potassium Chloride ($29.95 per bag)W. We also included two additional coupons for your use.
Again, we apologize for the delay in getting answers to you, but we wanted to ensure we had the most accurate information before responding. We appreciate your patience as we worked with our supplier to address your concern.
