Moss built a 3 story addition for my family and it was a great experience. Wonderful people, they took great care of us from start to finish.

Review: In late 2013 I had some light remodeling work done above my fireplace to fill a square hole in the wall with shelves, a cabinet/hinged door, and a frame. The estimate in the contract was $780. Towards the end of the project I did not realize that that estimate did not include the painting, and asked them to paint for and additional $300-$350, which should have brought the total to around $1,000-$1,100. In the final stages of the work I asked how the costs were shaping up, and was provided a revised, itemized estimate of $1,400. This was more than my budget, and I made that clear to the technician, and the project manager, but ultimately agreed to continue the project but cut the budget off there. This is all in writing.

Without receiving any change orders to approve during the project, or being notified of any additional overrun, the total bill came out to almost ~$3,000. I've had the issue escalated within Moss Services, but am told that that's what it cost to do the work and I'm responsible for paying it all. I've tried to pay the $1,400 that I was told it would cost, and the company will not deposit the check unless I send the remaining balance they claim I owe.

I would not have hired Moss Services to do the work or complete the project if at any point in time they told me that the cost would be closer to $3,000 as I cannot afford that right now. I trusted that the quotes I was given were made and good faith and that the bill would be close to the $1,400 amount that I was provided at the end of the project. It appears that they either grossly underestimated the cost, did not notify me, and are holding me accountable for their mistake, or pulled a "bait and switch" tactic on me. They simply cannot spend my money with out my permission and must keep me apprised of costs in an accurate manner.Desired Settlement: I would like the bill to be reduced to $1,400, my payment of said amount deposited, and be provided a written statement from the company indicating that they will not be contacting a collections agency. If they already have contacted a collections agency, I would like them to resolve the issue with the agency and prevent them from pursuing collection.

Review: We attempted to contact Moss several times by email and phone to set up an appointment to install LED lighting in the basement. None of our calls and emails were ever answered. It is as if Moss wanted until the coupon expired, in order to use that as an excuse not to honor the $499 deal that my boyfriend, [redacted], purchased in advanced.

The only time we ever heard from Moss was when I requested a refund. It was then that they were willing to set up an appointment, but revealed that they are several weeks backlogged. I spoke to Michelle M[redacted] who transferred me to Greg G[redacted], supposedly a manager there at Moss, who told me that the check for our refund of $499 will be in the mail. We never received it and will NEVER refer anyone to this company.

In fact, Moss stated that work was completed in our home, when nothing was ever done. This is untrue and shows how poorly coordinated their office is.

Because of their long and unacceptable backlog, we declined an appointment and demanded a refund, TWICE. I was told over the phone that the check is in the mail. It was never sent and this proves that Moss has absolutely no integrity.Desired Settlement: I was told over 2 weeks ago, per Greg G[redacted] of Moss, that a check will be sent in the mail to us. We never received it and highly dissatisfied. We want our money back, $499 in the form of a check.
