This letter is in response to a complaint filed with the Revdex.com, on July 19, 2016, by J[redacted] of [redacted] De La Guerra Street, Santa Barbara, regarding a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Jonathan came in the shop on December 11, 2015 with the complaint that the brake light was on. We...

inspected the brakes and found them within specification and not needing replacement; but the brake fluid level was low. We topped off the fluid at no charge. Upon further inspection of the vehicle we found that the belts were worn and cracking, sway bar end links cracking, corrosion on the battery terminals, power steering fluid in need of a flush, coolant in need of a flush, and a rough idle. All these recommendations were explained to Mr. M[redacted] and he declined all of the repairs except for the power steering flush, and coolant flush. Mr. M[redacted] added that he had been given an estimate from Toyota to have his spark plugs replaced. He requested that we give him an estimate for the work as well.A couple of days after the service was done, Mr. M[redacted] came into the shop with the complaint that he had compared our prices with the Toyota dealership and found our prices were higher on some of the services. We try to be as competitive as possible on our pricing; we charge a fair price for quality work, however it may be that we are not the least expensive on some services. Again, we perform quality work with personable customer Service at a fair price. That being said, we aim to please and offered Mr. M[redacted] a free oil change as goodwill. We did not offer this because we had admitted to overcharging him, just an effort at appeasement. Mr. M[redacted] also stated that the Toyota Dealership had given him a better price on the spark plugs.Sometime after this visit, Mr. M[redacted] came in and explained that he had driven the car to Ventura and the engine went out. He had it towed to the Toyota Dealership and they recommended the engine needed to be replaced and he had authorized it. Mr. M[redacted] stated that the Toyota Dealership could not determine the cause of the engine failure. We asked him if he had replaced the spark plugs. Mr. M[redacted] admitted that he had not done so. At the end of the conversation, Mr. M[redacted] stated that he understood that it wasn't our fault and he left. We were surprised that he filed this complaint. On any repairs or service to a customer's vehicle that may experience problems related to what we've done, we have always stood behind the work performed. In this case, we are not able to determine the cause of the engine's replacement.Very Sincerely Yours.B[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:
On December 11, 2015 I returned to Motor Brake and Wheel to pick up my vehicle at 5pm only to be shocked by the price. [redacted] assured me the price was correct and less expensive than the dealership. I was the one who pointed out the rough idle and he explained to me they had corrected the problem by lubricating the throttle linkage and suggested I change my spark plugs. I asked him for an estimate on changing the spark plugs. The estimate was $240. I returned on Monday after contacting the dealership to discover all of the services were significantly more expensive at Motor Brake and Wheel, contrary to [redacted]'s guaranty. The estimate for the spark plug replace was only $140 at the Toyota dealership as compared to the $240 of Motor Brake and Wheel. After confronting [redacted] he denied the guaranty and said he would contact Toyota. He also changed his original estimate of $240 to $180 claiming he never gave me that original price. Another false truth giving to me by Motor Brake and Wheel. My truck seemed to be running a bit rougher after the coolant flush they preformed, but there was no way I was going to allow this company to service my vehicle again due to the over pricing and miss information. It is clear through the evidence that Motor Brake and Wheel bubbled my head gasket upon preforming the coolant flush. Causing the head gasket failure and total destruction of my engine. The rough idle was caused by a malfunctioning idle control valve and had nothing to due with the engine failure. The spark plugs were also unrelated to the engine failure as they were performing up to specifications. I returned to Motor Brake and Wheel after my engine head gasket failed, destroying my engine. B[redacted] the owner looked at my receipt from December and said that he would give me a free service for overcharging me on the initial service. Reiterating this has nothing to do with my engine failure. I shook his hand and said that I know this is not your fault, only implying it was the fault of his employees as he was not present during the services performed. B[redacted]'s exact words were he would give me a free service for overcharging me on the coolant and power steering flushes. I said "like what a free oil change ". Another statement made by Motor Brake and Wheel that they denied ever having made. It is obvious through the evidence that Motor Brake and Wheel overcharged for services as well as improperly performed services resulting in the destruction of my property. I have tried many times to politely confront the business owner B[redacted] and his shop manager [redacted] only to be brushed aside and repeatedly been given mistruths. I am only asking for what is fair. I am sure this is not the first complaint the Revdex.com has received about Motor Brake and Wheel.
Regards,
