Motor World West Reviews (4)

I purchased a vehicle from this business and it has been nothing but problems. They are unhelpful, unresponsive and down right rude when I have confronted them about it. I realize I purchased a used vehicle and there is a risk in that but seriously had the car 3 days and it began to act up. I wish I had looked up the company before purchasing, as they have many negative reviews on yelp and other sites. Please do not purchase from them. Don't be foolish as I was. Do some research and see for yourself. This business is not reliable.

Review: I purchase a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero from Motor World West on August 24th at 5:30 pm at closing time. After driving the vehicle 1 mile down the road, the drive train sensor light came on. I called Motor world west and got an answering machine. On August 25 I brought my vehicle back and told [redacted] who sold me the car that the light came on, there was some type of fluid leaking from the front end, and the car was making a noise like landing gear on a plan, he stated “that’s Mitsubishi’s for ya, they are loud.” I stated these issues made me uncomfortable and would like my money back, he stated” we will take care of you, don’t worry. I will have my mechanic take a look at it.” A mechanic [redacted] looked at it briefly and stated the problem was probably just a sensor and the leak appeared to be from my air conditioning, and the noise was probably from a dent on the front left fender rubbing against the tire.

I was asked to bring the car back on Sat the 28th of August so they could repair the car. I was also told by [redacted] it would be best if they could keep my car a week. I told [redacted] I had no other means of transportation, and asked if they could give me a loaner car. [redacted] stated “I don’t think it will be a problem, we’ve done it in the past, I will have to ask [redacted].”

On August 28th my husband [redacted] and I dropped off my car to Auto world west at around 11:00. We were called to pick the car back up at 4:30 pm, we were told again they needed to order a part, again a sensor.

We were asked to bring the car back for a third time no September 5th, stated part was in and would take several hours to fix. My husband [redacted] West brought my car back and sat there for 4 hours while they worked on my car. [redacted] Auto World West’s mechanic told [redacted] the actuator in the 4 wheel drive needed to be replaced, they would have to order the part. [redacted] asked if [redacted] if it was safe to drive the vehicle and to do so without causing more damage. [redacted] stated “yes”.

I was called by [redacted] and told the parts were in on September 12th and asked if I could drop off the car on the 14th of September, I did so and was told by [redacted] they needed to order another part called an actuator. I asked [redacted] at this point why they had to reorder the same part, he stated he was told they were fixing the sensor. He stated at this time “I personally ordered the parts they will be here soon.”

On September 18th at 4:00 I called [redacted] on speaker phone with my brother [redacted] and husband [redacted] present. I was told by [redacted] they needed to order more parts, The Rack and Pinion and a gasket, the fluid which was leaking was from my front end was power steering fluid, not my air conditioning. I asked [redacted] at this time about a loaner car he raised his voice at me and stated “No I don’t loan cars, I’m not a damn enterprise! I told him his partner [redacted] had mentioned the possibility of loaning me a car, [redacted] still raising his voice stated “[redacted] should of never said that and he’s my employee not my partner, I’m the owner.” I stated I wanted my money back and [redacted] yelled “Lady you are lucky I’m even fixing your damn car, I don’t have to, most of those aes in Sacramento would have told you to kick rocks, and the car is in your name, DMV doesn’t care, the state doesn’t care, I don’t care. I told [redacted] I had told [redacted] less than 24 hours after purchasing my car it had mechanical problems and wants my money back, he stated “well take care of you” I also stated at this time he was causing my family a hard ship by having to get a rental car, [redacted] stated “I’m out all this money for parts” and hung up. I had to find a rental car place to rent a car before they closed at 5:00.

On 10/1 I contacted [redacted] at Motor World West to see if they had contacted the warranty company, and was told no. I called the warranty company Wheelz’ myself on 10/1/15 and was told [redacted] or the mechanic had to call to start the claim. I called [redacted] back at this time and told him, he stated he would give them a call. On Oct. 6th I got a call after 19 days stating my car was fixed. I picked it up at Hertz and drove the mechanic [redacted] back to Auto Tech, the shop where he was working. [redacted] stated the actuator did not need to be replaced, only greased, and he had fixed the rack and pinion as well as the gasket.

On October October 9th after driving car less than 55 miles the drive line sensor came back on again. I called and left a message for [redacted] around 11:00, I called [redacted] right afterwards, I told him the sensor came back on, the problem was not fixed and wanted my money back. [redacted] said “let me call [redacted]” and hung up the phone.

On Oct. 9th at 4:30pm [redacted] called [redacted] back and told him we have given him over 4 chances to fix our car, and we wanted to bring the car back to him, [redacted] said “the car is in your wife’s name, so DMV doesn’t care, neither does the state, and I fixed your car. [redacted] stated” no the same light is back on, so it seems to me the sensor was cleared and the problem was not fixed. [redacted] replied “I’d like to give [redacted] a chance to look at it 1 more time.” [redacted] replied no we have given you enough chances, and this car now meets Lemon Law criteria. [redacted] than replied I’ll call [redacted] and hung up the phone.

No calls from [redacted] or [redacted] on the 10th.

Oct. 12th I received a call from [redacted] asking if I could bring the car back in, I did so, he stated the part does need to be replaced and could I bring it back Fri. Oct. 156th I told him yes and asked if it was safe to drive, he stated “Yes” I believe the owner [redacted] of that shop was present at this time. I drove home at the speed limit, sometimes slower as these were mountain roads, and I was unsure of exactly how safe my car was. I got to the center of my steep driveway and the vehicle started to chug as if it was going to stall. I applied my foot to the brake pedal, and called [redacted], he told me to put the car in park, I told him it was stuck and did not want to go, he asked me to put the car in 4 wheel drive I tried and told him it would not go. [redacted] asked me to turn the ignition off and to retry in a couple of minutes. I told him I had to get ready for work and could not drive this vehicle if it will not go into gear, I asked him to please call [redacted] to have a tow truck come get the car. He did so and a tow truck came and towed the car to [redacted]’s I was forced to bum a ride to work from my brother [redacted]. My husband dropped off his truck and got a ride back home form my mother. So I would have a way home from work at 11:30 at night.

On October 13th I was forced to get another rental car. I drove to Motor World West right after picking up my car I asked [redacted] what [redacted] had to say about my car and he stated he had no idea what I was talking about. I told him what had happened. He listened to his voicemail and stated [redacted] did leave a message. He would call him back. At this time I asked again about a rental car, [redacted] stated [redacted] was on vacation in the desert and had no cell service. [redacted] stated he could not authorize a loaner car, pay for a rental car, apologized for all the inconvenience I had gone through, also stated “if I had an extra car I would even loan it to you, I’m sorry.”

I received a call from [redacted] he stated “it appears to be the transmission, I don’t work on transmissions, so I placed a call to see where [redacted] wants me to the car.”

10/18/15 [redacted] left a message with [redacted] asking him to call back.

10/19/15 I called and left messages for [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted] asking where my car was.

10/20/15 I got a call from the owner [redacted] I believe stating the car was on their property not drivable, with both drive lines disconnected.

10/20/15 I called S[redacted] again and was told by him I had caused the damage to my car by angrily throwing my car in reverse from drive while flooring it. I told him I had done no such thing. I did exactly as his mechanic has asked, he stated perhaps he could have the car R&R I asked what that was he stated remove and rbuild, through the warranty, I told him I did not have the 250.00 deductible he stated “there are ways to burry the deductible in the work charges. He stated he would call me back.

I drove out to get my car from Auto Tech had it towed to Mell’s where it is pending inspection on the transmission. On Oct. 20th I sent S[redacted] a certified letter telling him again in writing I want my money back and to be reimbursed for car rental fees.

I am attaching a copy of this letter as well as receipt of being sent by certified mail.

Thank you for your time reviewing this matter.

Sincerely [redacted]Desired Settlement: On 11/2/15 Mel’s transmission contacted me back stated needs new or rebuilt transmission. Cost quote $5,500-$1,500 warranty = 250$ deductible. I want them to pay me back the cost of the vehicle 6,700$ plus car rental fees x2. They misrepresented this vehicle & had 5 x’s to fix it.

Thank you

Response:

This car was sold with a third party warrantee. When the car

left our lot there were no issues. Several days after the purchase the buyer

stated the 4 wheel drive light was going on and off we stated we would be happy

to look at it. After review and having our mechanic look at the 4 wheel drive

indicator light sensor it appeared to be fixed. There were no noises or leaking

fluid at that time. The buyer several days later stated the 4 wheel drive light

was coming on again, at that point we suggested that she allow a third

party service center to diagnose and that we would pay for the work although

she had a third party warrantee, she agreed. The buyer brought the car to the

third party service shop a week or so latter. When the buyer asked for a loner

car I informed her that we are not insured for loaners and consequently do not

have loaners. After the service center looked at the car they stated it had to

do with the shift actuator and that is was not going into 4 wheel drive and

wanted all potential parts ordered prior to any work being performed. We

ordered all potential parts from Mitsubishi which took Mitsubishi over a week

and a half to supply in which the buyer was using the car. When the buying

brought the car into the third part service center sometime after parts arrived

the service shop found that it was an outside of transfer case stuck actuator

that was due to lake of use and need lubricating to free it up and operate as

normal so although we ordered all possible parts they were not needed. The third

party service center informed me of yet another issue that did not egoists at

time of sale which was a now leaking power steering rack, we authorized

its repair at our cost. After repairs were complete the buyer and third party

service center took the car for a drive showing her everything was operating

correctly. I do not recall how many days the buyer had the car when she

called stating she just got back from running errands and just pulled into her

driveway when she heard a noise and the car was not driving properly so we had

the car towed to the third party service center and that service center

informed us of the transmission issue being the planetary gear. We asked how

this could happen and could it have anything to do with the work performed. The

service shop stated the only way that could of happened would have been by the

car being put into reverse while driving forward and that it had nothing to do

with work performed. We informed the buyer and she elected to take the car to

her own transmission shop, We suggested that she use her warrantee along with

several recommended wholesale transmission shops where she was quoted about

$2500 for the complete job.

I am rejecting this response because:I had my Mitsubishi towed from Mel’s transmission in Grass Valley out on 11/6/15 cost quoted was $5,500 could not afford. Had towed on this date (11/6) to ATW @ [redacted]. Quoted $3,000 to fix. Warranty covered $1,500 only. I paid $1,500 + 120.45 in taxes on 11/20/15 I was told by ATW the noise in the rear of my vehicle was not “just a Mitsubishi for ya” as the mechanics for Motor World West stated 4 times to include the day after I purchased the car. I was told the brakes are metal to metal & the noise I was hearing was my rear differential! I don’t have the money to fix these issues. I am including copies of texts which transpired between Scott the owner and myself once I picked up my car. Also the 4 wheel drive does not work still. The drive line light came back on once I drove my car 10 miles. Please! Can you help me with this ASAP. How did this vehicle ever pass a safety inspection before going on their lot. There is also moisture in the passenger floor board & a dent in the front (L) fender Motor World West promised to fix in front of 2 witnesses. This car is unsafe! I have incurred more rental car fees as well. They are included with docs. Thank you for your time in ADVANCE. Please send someone to inspect my car asap please. Current mileage 169932 mileage when purchased [redacted]

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: This car was sold with a warranty which did not cover the dangerous mechanical defects which this car was sold to me with. Rack and pinion replacement, 2 completely bald tires, bad front brakes, warped rotors, and a rear end differential which needs to be replaced. I have a had a third party look at the vehicle after the transmission went out and I had given his 2 mechanics over 6 times to fix the initial issue. I went back and spoke to [redacted] as I previously stated in my initial complaint the day after purchase, not several days. [redacted] states [redacted] is a third party mechanic, when he refers to him as “his mechanic,” employed by him to work on his cars. I took my vehicle to Auto tech because it was closer to my home and that is where [redacted] works out of, for Motor world west as request by [redacted]. His mechanic had my vehicle there to work on it 19 days which was the second to last attempt I gave them to fix the problem. They have had my vehicle for repairs longer than I have and the mileage had increased in their possession. I have submitted rental car receipts for these occasions. Every time I have spoken with this company I have had them on speaker phone for a witness or had another witness present. Motor world west was told this. I have submitted text message to the Revdex.com which clearly dispute the owners claims. We had snow here on the 25th, which is the sole purpose for me purchasing a 4 wheel drive, the actuator which they supposedly fixed which they did not went out while I was driving my 5 year old daughter to school and I went off the road into the bank on a mountain road. Dealing with this company had caused my family almost 10,000 in financial burden, especially since I wasn’t able to fix the rest of the major defects in the car I had to buy another vehicle on the 27th of November. This had caused my family an immense amount of stress, especially since we had to put our mortgage payment into fixing the transmission. I never went on a test drive with [redacted] as [redacted] claims my car had both drive lines disconnected, the transmission did not work, the car was non operational and towed to Mel’s transmission. After my transmission was fixed at my cost I drove a few miles to go home and the drive line sensor came back on. [redacted] wanted [redacted] to look at it again for the 7th time, I told him no, [redacted] had not been able to fix it the other 6 times. I will be willing to have ATW look at it at [redacted]’s expense, but not his mechanics they have proven themselves inapt to fix the problem. [redacted] refuses to pay to have these defects fixed. However he called ATW and spoke with them in regards to my car without my permission. I asked [redacted] for receipts each time he did work on my car and was told I quote “I cannot give you a receipt because I am doing this work for Motor World West.” Which I believe to be illegal and yet another way [redacted] covers his tracks. I was told by the owner of auto tech that [redacted] was severing ties with [redacted] soon related to his shady business tactics and how he deals with people. I did not try to get through arbitration and was told since they sold me a warranty, arbitration was void. My vehicle meets every lemon law criteria, however since the car cost less than 10,000 I will have no choice but to go to small claims court. I am waiting to hear back from the BAR, I have asked them to inspect my car. My vehicle is currently sitting with a non op in my driveway. I know there are 2 sides to every story and you have to get both sides. When you call a company to try to reconcile a problem and an owner of the company yells at you and swears on the phone that in itself shows what kind of a person he is. I don’t want to just keep going back and forth with the he said she said, it isn’t helping me, but causing me more stress. I also know he has other complaints against him which almost mirror mine. Thank you for your time. [redacted]

Response:

As stated in previous answers the Mitsubishi Montero left

our dealership in great shape with a three month warrantee from one of the

largest national warrantee company’s in the country. This answer will be brief,

details in previous response. Several days after delivery it was reported

to us that the 4 wheel drive light came on and not going into 4 wheel drive so

we offered to pay a mechanic shop to correct the issue. They found a shift rod

was sticking and needed lubrication that was corrected, the customer did

drive the car with that shop confirming all was well. At some point during

the next 1900 miles it was brought to our attention that the power steering

rack was leaking we approved it to be replaced. At some point we were told the

car had a transmission issue, we suggested a company that was half the price of

the customers other quote and the warrantee company did paid for a large

portion of the work excluding tax, tow and some other part.

After the transmission was fixed we were told by customer

that they think the brake pads needed to be replaced and a noise in the rear

end, we told the customer that we would be happy to verify this, NO RETURN

CALLS, we got a text stating they did not want us to look at the issues so we

suggested that they have ATW look at the issues never heard anything more till

this letter through Revdex.com although we left messages and text. In talking with ATW

they stated they thought they could hear the ware bar on the front brakes, we

told atw we would suggest the customer have them look at it and to let us know.

Again we heard nothing more. In somewhere of 700 cars sold we have seen one bad

rear end which was a $350.00 fix, we replace all brakes when there down to 40%

cheap fix for us. So none of this was logical and we simply asked for

verification. Shops in the process of fixing cars do SHORT test drives, this

customer managed to drive this car over 1900 miles and yet we were still

willing to be of assistance. [redacted] informed us that he is retired as stated in

his intentions months and months ago. We always go well beyond the call of duty

and have a gazillion references to prove it. Simple communication solves issues

for all parties involved.

Review: On 03/30/2014, I purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel from Motor World West, under the conditions that they fix the leak. It states on my due bill "fix leak, if any, with-in reason." [redacted] the salesman told me and my girlfriend to bring the truck in on Monday the 31st, so the mechanic could take a look at the leak. I arrived on Monday morning and was in the office with the salesman [redacted] and the owner [redacted], my girlfriend [redacted] was with the mechanic while he looked at the truck. Her and the mechanic crawled under the truck. She showed him where the leak was and he told her that it was leaking from the power steering unit. He told her that he would get the part for it and the light for the back of the truck at the same time and would call us when it was in. [redacted] then walked towards the sales office, saw [redacted] and told him what the mechanic had said. Her and I left that day under the assumption that the leak would be fixed. A few days later I went back and they replaced the light lens. I then asked the mechanic what was the plan for fixing the leak and was told that the only way to fix the leak is to change the gear box and that the he had to talk to the owner [redacted] and let me know by the following Monday of when the repair was to be scheduled. I never heard from [redacted] or anyone so I called [redacted] on Wednesday. He acted like he had no idea about any leak and would talk to his mechanic. After talking to his mechanic he confirmed that his mechanic said it needed a new gear box and that [redacted] disagreed with his master certified mechanic and all it was is an oil leak. He then asked me to drop it off the following Monday and leave it with them for a few hours. I called [redacted] and told her I was becoming concerned that they are not going to take care of the leak . She then called [redacted] and he said to call [redacted], she was given his cell phone 530-415-0778. [redacted] called him and asked him to explain why we had to bring the truck in again for them to look at, when we had already brought the truck to them and the mechanic said that it was the power steering. He then proceeded to scream at her saying, my mechanic had said no such thing and that she was lying. That he(mechanic) had told her that it was the breather spitting oil. That if our truck was leaking that we needed to bring it in and they would look at it and "if" it was leaking, they would fix it, but used cars leak, they are old. [redacted] then called me and told me to schedule an appointment with a shop that worked on diesels. I made an appointment at [redacted] Auto in Lincoln, CA. The next day I went in and had [redacted] Auto inspect the truck. They said that the Gear box was bad and it needed to be replaced. Later that day I went into Motor World West. [redacted] and the mechanic were there but not the owner. I recorded our conversation. I asked if they would have their mechanic sign a form of him stating my truck was not leaking. I asked if they had just gone to the junk yard for a gear box to fix the leak how much would it have cost them. The mechanic stated $90 and he was told not to say anything. We still have our appointment to go on Monday the 21st of April. I don't trust them to fix my truck and fear they might tamper with it, if given the chance to fix it. I already gave them a chance to fix it and was told that there was no leak from the gear box. The mechanic wrote up and signed on their company letter head stating that "oil leakage is not from steering gear, but from engine vent.' I also, asked the mechanic why he had told [redacted] and I on two separate occasions that it needed a new gear box and he said that he was guessing, because it's a common problem those trucks have and that [redacted] the owner (who is not the certified mechanic) had looked at the leak and determined what the cause was. I have Due bill from Motor World West stating that they were going to fix the leak. I have invoice from a certified mechanic stating what the cause of the leak is and the estimate for them to fix it at $497. I have a signed document from Motor World West that it is not the steering gear, but oil from the vent.Desired Settlement: I would like Motor World West to pay [redacted]'s Auto in Lincoln CA for the repair

Business

Response:

Mr. [redacted] was informed that we did not feel that there was a leek but that if it made him happy we would be delighted to replace the part f and or spend that money on anything else of his desire. Mr. [redacted]s statement to BAR was that the owner did not feel the part was leaking but would replace it and or would spend money on other items of the buyer's discretion.

I've bought two cars from Motor World West, and I'm very pleased with the service I've received. I will always buy my cars from Scott, because he has treated me with love and respect.
