Mountain Clover Homes

Our daughter was to be married on June 19th, 2020. We had rented a home from Carol *** owner of Mountain Clover Homes for the dates of June 20th to June 27th through *** to celebrate the event with family coming from out of state. We had paid Carol *** a deposit of $2,000 and also paid *** a fee of $499. As a result of COVID-19, our daughter had to postpone her wedding since some of the guest coming from out of state were elderly and considered a higher risk of getting the virus.

We contacted *** and their policy, due to the virus,was to refund our $499 fee, which they did. They recommended to their homeowners was to provide "Flexible Credits: by asking property owners and managers to offer a full credit for the amount you already paid if outside of the cancellation window. The value of the credit can be applied to future bookings at that property." OR they were "Encouraging refunds: We are strongly encouraging property owners and managers to issue at least a partial refund for situations in which a flexible credit cannot be accommodated."

We contacted Carol *** and was told it was our "choice" to cancel the wedding and she could only offer a $2,000 credit if we booked with her company for a stay in 2020 or apply a 50% credit for a stay in 2021. We contacted the Summit County Public Health Department and was informed by Michael ***, Public Information Officer - Public Health, that our group of 21 was prohibited from using the rental in Summit County for the dates we had originally scheduled. Carol *** said she could not refund our $2,000 deposit because she had employees to pay, a mortgage and utilities, however, she applied and received from the Paycheck Protection Program funds to cover these permissible expenses incurred during the dates we had reserved. We will not be pressured to travel and put family members at risk.
