Review: I have been a customer of Moya Landscaping Company for more than one year. During this period, they performed landscaping services twice monthly, on my property at [redacted].

About a month ago, [redacted] approached and informed me that his company, apart from providing landscaping services, also did concrete work on walkways and patios, as well as light carpentry. I showed him an old wooden fence in the back of my yard, lying on the southern boundary of my property, and enquired from him whether his company could do the job of replacing it. He answered in the affirmative. I then, asked him to prepare and give me an estimate for the job.

On his return to do regular maintenance work on my yard, on Friday, June **, 2014, he informed me that the cost of materials and labor for installing a PVC fence along the boundary would be $950.00. After studying the information for a while, I told him that I had decided to go ahead with the job. He requested that I advance him 50 percent (half) cash, and pay him the remaining 50 percent on the satisfactory completion of the job. I agreed and advised [redacted] to return on Monday, June **, 2014 to collect the advance payment.

Incidentally, over the year he has done work for me, he has insisted on being paid in cash only. Likewise, for the fence, he requested cash payment only.

[redacted] came to my home on Monday afternoon of June **, 2014 to collect the advance payment. I was in my backyard doing some work when I heard my front doorbell ringing. I walked to the front yard, saw him and invited him to come and wait outside my backdoor while I went inside to get the money. I returned with $500.00 cash. Before I could hand over the money to him, he told me that while I had gone inside, he remeasured the site and found that he had not done the full length of it. I was very perplexed to say the least, and pointed out to him that what he said was absurd, since it was clear to see the boundaries of my yard. He offered that he had inadvertently stopped at a point where I have an outdoor storage shed, and had only just realized that the fence needed to go beyond there. He told me that the additional length would be $170.00, making the new price $1,120.00. I was very troubled by his explanation and hesitated to proceed with the contract. He pleaded with me to give him the job and also offered to take off $20.00, making the new price $1,100.00. Despite being frustrated, I decided to go ahead with it because, not only was I anxious to have a new fence installed quickly, but I trusted him to do a good and honest job. After all, I have been pleased with Moya's landscaping work on my yard.

I handed over my $500.00 cash to [redacted], and I asked him for a receipt. He said to me that he did not have a receipt form with him. I became worried and asked him how he would come to collect money and not bring a receipt. He promised me that he would return with it on Wednesday (two days later), June **, 2014 when he would come to install the new PVC fence.

Wednesday, June **, 2014 came and [redacted] did not turn up. The next day, Thursday, went by without him showing up. On Friday, June **, I telephoned the company at ###-###-#### and found a recorded answering message stating that a live person was not unavailable to take my call, but I should leave a message. However, I was not allowed to leave a message, because the tape was full. Since then, I have called the number daily at varying times, only to meet the same result. Neither, have I seen [redacted] or any of any of his agents to this day.

I have checked with two friends for whom the company performs landscaping services, and they too have noted that no one from the company has shown up in a while, and that they too have been trying to reach them unsuccessfully.

At this point, my trust in Moya Landscaping Services has been lost, and I would like my $500.00 to be returned to me. I would dearly like your help.Desired Settlement: Refund of $500.00
